  1. Figure out that as a guardian, you mine rocks at insane speed. Help miner collect enormous amount of materials. Gibtonite explodes immediatly on hit. There are 3 gibtonite ores in one place. Be tator of any kind. Target is miner. Lure to mining, try to track target by gps. Walk around narrow corridors in-between rocks. Target should be nearby. Just around the corner. Turn. Out of nowhere, colossus. And it is getting closer. Tesla is loose. Walk around in engi hardsuit and insulated gloves. You are immune, laugh at tesla, save people. Tesla is smart. It jumps directly ontop of you, dusting you. Be vampire. Forget about it. Space adventure time.

  3. Let's share our YASD experiences, SS13 style! Here's an example of a YASD list for Spelunky players. Feel free to add as much or as little detail as you want! I'll start off with some of my own: Befriending a player as a mouse, being placed on their head, then being carried into a low pressure/air environment. Ah, the tragedy. Having someone in robotics, or worse, the roboticist, stuck with an abductor EMP implant while being an IPC in there trying to get fixed from EMPs. Dying as a plasmeme by toxins from chugging plasma dust because why not?

  7. I'm experimenting with seeing how useful my work can be as an educational resource for new sec players. I'm not sure how many new sec players look at this thread, but I keep seeing the same mistakes repeated over and over again in regards to dealing with certain threats. If this gets positive reception I might release more visual PSAs for new security. So, my first topic here is going to be a few basic pointers on xenomorph combat: Second piece of advice: Head protection. Of @Fursamie's character, Domitia Aquila. First time I've managed to a request without it going terribly. This was from a Nuke Op round that took place sometime last year, if I remember correctly. As a gimmick we decided that all of the team would hide, fully equipped, inside a single cardboard box, and get as close to the nuke disk as possible before jumping out. We only got as far as dorms before a nosy civilian opened our box, but it was a hilarious, glorious failure. Having played in sec for long enough, I find that long-term regular players tend to fall under similar 'personality types'. Bolton Grey and Chad Wolf are good examples of this: They're both ridiculously robust, know their stuff, and can be trusted to hold their own in a chaotic situation... if you can convince them to stop goofing around for fifteen seconds, that is. I think most sec regulars who play in the afternoons are familiar with Cardiox and his vampire shenanigans at this point. He's quite a challenge to deal with when there's a competent sec team. When there isn't, well... From either a cultist round or a changeling round, can't remember which. In any case, sec had already 100% redtexted the antags, so an admin (pretty sure it was Spark, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt just in case) decided to spawn 2 perfect copies of Cecilia and gave control of them to players from Dchat. This was around the same time as the Heathers collab with Phantasmicdream, so needless to say, dropping references to the musical was one of the first things I thought of. Space Lube: 'Because fuck you, that's why'. "That HoS was bad. Why did they keep ignoring me?" I'd elaborate but this image sucks out my will to live the longer I look at it, so I'll sum it up like this: This is what happens during Highpop when there's no warden or magistrate. If it seems like Cecilia's ignoring you, believe me when I say she doesn't do it on purpose.

  8. I guess I never made one of these. I've been here a little.. I actually started playing SS13 3 years ago but the controls made me give up the game. I tried it again a year later and I hated combat controls. I tried it again a few months ago after being introduced to Paradise and it turns out hey this is pretty neat. So I learned everything about SS13 basically with I first started Paradise this year. I play the following in order of most (IN)FAMOUS: Vin Croi: the female snarky serious vulp who has a major in psychology and a backstreet major in.. surgery? X.V.M.: the sad little security IPC robot that wants to be respected but everyone just rubs her head instead Dayana: just a character I rarely play who is mostly an innocent slime character who never does anything wrong or evil and just wants to do good for the station and help everyone. yeah sure. I also have art for my characters but I am in bed and I can't sleep please send help I have a Inorganic Chem lab in 10 hours oh god oh fuck

  9. Okay, wow, rude. At least Qur doesn't push her friends in front of bullets after tricking them into flying to the syndicate asteroid so she can hear them crying until they pass out from pain. That's apparently not something you can expect from certain people.

  10. So it's probably been suggested before, but a subtype of blob that is kudzu would be pretty neat. Instead of having a central core, kudzu blob would be decentralized, and if even one vine persists the antag persists. Chemical storage would be used to induce mutations within the kudzu, and the primary gameplay of the kudzu would be managing which mutations spread so that weaker vines don't block off your stronger vines as all have some degree of automatic spread. As far as difficulty of implementation, all of the assets are probably already in the game already, but I don't know how difficult it would be to code abilities that mutated vines on command.

  11. Be robotcist. Hijack botanist has been releasing syndie-bees for the last 10 minutes. Know this. Open the shutters anyway. Open the windoor anyway. Get attacked by a single bee. Decide to run away, straight into the main bee infested hallway. Get added on to the massive pile of bee-stung corpses Still one of the most hilarious hijacks I've seen. I think the guy killed like 50% of the station or something crazy until sec managed to take him down.

  15. So thought I should actually introduce myself. I'm your host, Necaladun. I also go by the names Vorpal and Misha depending on which ones are already taken. I'm a 27 year old geek in Australia, who lives next door to your other host Mkenner. I started playing MUDs at the age of 7, Avatar Mud being one of the primary, as well as an RP Cyberpunk MOO called Cybersphere, where I learnt the art of paranoia. I've also done a fair bit of table-top gaming - D&D, WoD, Exalted, Dark Heresy, GURPs and a few other systems I made up myself. I look forward to learning lots more about coding as I'm fairly amateur at it, but I've been learning via osmosis for awhile.

'Tis all you need to know~ Not much here but corn, soy beans, roads, and the occasional random weather. Believe it or not, I share the same state as two other admins here.

  19. The following can be considered IC knowledge. For it to be restricted IC knowledge to say Security, add [Clearance: Security] before the text. Sec and Medical records are Sec/Medical clearance. Name: Sierra Lydia Hunt Age: 24 Gender: Female [Clearance: Medical] (Transfemale) Race: Human Blood Type: O- General Occupational Role(s): Cargo Tech Quartermaster Detective Security Officer Freeloading-helper (IE Civvie roles where she still tries to actually help with things) Biography: Born in space, and destined to stay in space it seems, Sierra was a bit of a wild, homeless child, learning to drift between ships, often stowing away on them and running or crawling around the maintenance accesses to stay hidden and safe. As she grew older, she became a smuggler for quite some time, at first simply running illegal goods around various stations, all the way into sneaking herself and others aboard ships headed elsewhere, running people to (presumably) better places. She grew to be a young woman of...questionably sanity at times, her dedication to wearing fake cat ears and a tail...her inability to recognize mice as anything but a long lost pet "Mr Cheesums" (Or even that they change colors at times...and count)...She is none the less dedicated to getting her job done, and done right when possible....even when she was inevitably caught due to a hacked, dangerous cargo door crushing her leg and getting her in a heap of trouble with none other than our wondrous overloads NT. Debts in progress, including a new leg...she puts forth her nature to get jobs done, and right, while somehow seeming to be a sane person among the many interesting crew members she serves alongside. Qualifications: No actual qualifications on record for skills. Simply exhibiting a professional attitude and knowledge of wherever she is working is what keeps her being in jobs such as the QM, or Detective. Very good at running Maint passages to find lost goods, or crates for Cargo...and noping the hell outta them once things get sketchy. Security Records: [Clearance: Security] - Formerly a smuggler of small illegal goods and people into ships and stations. Is known to often carry a knife on her person when she feels there is a threat nearby, and is not afraid of combat. Medical Records: Missing left leg due to incident detailed in biography. Attends monthly checkups for health reasons, as well as therapy for quite a few different things going on in her brain. Personnel Photo (Appearance text): Commendations [only to be added by admin]: (I know it says by admin, but I gotta say, she got a medal for being the QM once, doing her job, getting station goal out before the hour mark, covering her ass with clearing orders for things on green/blue for the HoS, and so on) Reprimands [only to be added by admin]: Other Notes:

  22. Actually no, they are not. A good species, yes, but can never beat the best. Which happen to be humans. All hail humanity, death to the filthy xenos. But in all serious, there isn't really a solid "best" species. And it's best that way~

  24. Vox, Vox, Vox... Not a fun species to play in my opinion! Though, guess it's because I'm never sure on how to play them right. In any case, like generally any species, you'll get hyper annoying peeps or really cool ones. Depends on the player. Or whether or not you can stand Vox Pidgeon. Overall, I don't mind them. Even if some can be a bit silly/cringey/funny.

  27. Name: Keteinghzth "Kete" Wawakari II (Kete Wawakari in NT records) Age: 25 Gender: Male Race: Vulpkanin; Dalstadt Blood Type: O- General Occupational Role(s): Security (including Warden and Head of Security), Mining/Supply, base knowledge of Atmospherics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USERNAME: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX PASSWORD: XXXXXXXXXXX FILENAME SEARCH: KWAWAKARI ACCESSING POPULATION FILE FROM VULPKANIN ASSEMBLY ARCHIVES. . . . FILE FOUND! . . . LOADING FILE. . . . ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Biography: In the cramped, dingy hab Alpha-2-1-Tango, of the Vulpkanin planet Dalstadt, Keteinghzth Wawakari II (henceforth known as Kete) was born to a large family of 17, crammed into a space not much larger than 30 metres square. His upbringing was as good as one could expect from a hab-dweller on Dalstadt, and his propensity for crawling into venting and maintenance access shafts got him into legal trouble for trespassing on many an occasion. At the age of 14, Kete got himself involved in a group of off-world "traders", who taught him Tradeband, and due to his knowledge of the nooks and crannies on Alpha-2-1-Tango, and his minute stature, utilised him as a contraband smuggler. Through this, at the age of 16, he was able to amass enough credits to move out of his family hab, and into a small one of his own - which was unbeknownst to him, pre-bugged by the Assembly to catch the "traders". As Kete rose through the ranks, he moved onto other jobs other than smuggling; impersonation, loan sharking, "protection" rackets, and the like were the norm. On [REDACTED], an Enforcement Team led by [REDACTED] raided the hab during a meeting, apprehending Kete and 4 of the other "traders" for contraband smuggling, assault, impersonation of officers, and conspiracy to murder. While the "traders" were swiftly dealt with according to Assembly law protections offered to off-worlders, (see; execution of [REDACTED] via spacing) Kete was stuck, and felt betrayed by the off-worlders, which led to Kete becoming untrustworthy of most non-vulps. After sentencing, Assembly law meant he was to work in the mines for 5 years, unless he chose 7 years in the Corps. Kete chose mining at first, and at the completion of year 1, he opted for starting the full 7 years in the Assembly Enforcement Corps. In the Corps, Kete proved himself to be a valuable asset, his impersonation of others, sharp tongue, and propensity for slipping through tunnels, quickly netting him a commendation from Marshal Schvulf. Kete's exploits have given him rather invaluable experience, though his inability to take much seriously when out of work has led to more than its fair share of problems. Upon completion of his compulsory time in the Corps, he sold his hab to family members, took his uniform, (which we learned, he still wears with pride) and signed up at a local Nanotrasen recruitment office. Public Assembly records indicate his employment on-board the NSS Cyberiad, an NT vessel ostensibly geared towards science. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CLASSIFIED - ASSEMBLY CLEARANCE TANGO OR ABOVE ONLY------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Agent Wawakari has been assigned to the NSS Cyberiad as a sleeper agent, with goals to partially destabilise the company's reputation among Vulpkanin in Nanotrasen's employ, in order to drive more of our race back to Dalstadt. This may require assistance from the Syndicate, whenever possible. Cables have been sent to the terror org stating our willingness to put Wawakari in their employ as needs arise. This is because Vulpkanin Assembly - Dalstadt requires more bodies for the planned pacification of nearby Kelune, in order to bring the entire race under rule of Assembly General Lichfahrel, and rebuild the Vulpkanin back to its former glory. All for the Assembly! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Qualifications: Being raised on a hab planet, Kete has a very minor knowledge of atmospherics, and engineering. His year of mining has made him rather adept at resource extraction, though he proved to be unable to hold his own when encountering hostile entities during his mining duties. His years in the Assembly Enforcement Corps make him an asset to security duties, and undercover work is certainly a possibility for him. His impersonation skills may lead to him sneaking his way into restricted areas if jobless, so take caution. Employment Records: 2543-2551 - Enrolled in compulsory education 2551-2553 - "Traders", Contraband Smuggler (unofficial work) 2553-2554 - Labour Camp Miner 2554-2561 - Assembly Enforcement Corps, Officer/Agent 2561-Present - Nanotrasen, NSS Cyberiad Security Records: 2444: [1 Count of Trespassing] - Unpunished due to being underage. 2547: [1 Count of Trespassing] - Unpunished due to being underage. 2548: [1 Count of Trespassing] - Unpunished due to being underage. 2550: [1 Count of Trespassing] - Unpunished due to being underage. 2553: [2 Counts of Contraband Smuggling, 4 Counts of Impersonating an Officer, 1 Count of Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm, 1 Count of Conspiracy to Murder, 2 Counts of Assault, 2 Counts of Trespassing, 1 Count of Jaywalking] - Punished with 1 year of mining, 7 years of enrollment in Assembly Enforcer Corps, 1000 credit fine. 2561: [1 Count of Trespassing, 1 Count of Public Intoxication, 1 Count of Inactivity During a Breach] - Punished with 400 credit fine. Reports of association with known and suspected USSP terror group member(s). Medical Records: 2553 - Multiple Lacerations, Broken Bones, Short Clinical Death - Caused by an encounter with a Hivelord in the Labour Camp. 2555 - Laceration on Thorax - Minor scarring on left side from knife, unable to be seen through fur. 2558 - Head Trauma - Bludgeoned with crowbar; led to vision problems, must wear corrective lenses. 2559 - Broken Right Radius and Ulna - Caught in malfunctioning door, fracturing both forearm bones. Personnel Photo #1 (From enlistment in Assembly Enforcement Corps, 2560): Personnel Photo #2 (From enlistment in NanoTrasen's Security Force, 2563): Commendations: Reprimands: Other Notes: Wawakari speaks highly of his time in the Corps, but not much, if at all, about his time working for the "Traders". Wawakari dropped his full first name, and the numeration. Given reason is "...ease of pronunciation.", Agents suspect another, underlying reason. He has also coded a pAI personality for use by Nanotrasen employees in his spare time, K.E.T.E., based wholly upon himself.

  28. Oh yeah, in game I'm generally either Captain Novus Lem (or Admiral depending on how full of myself I am), or some random lowly assistant/janitor/botanist type. Or Faithless Most of my experience is with engineering. I used to be too lagged to be very robust, although I'm getting there.
