The instruction manual from Nanotrasen said I should introduce myself at my new workplace so here I go. Shipping out from earth soon, dunno how I feel about working in deep space but I'm sure it'll be fine. I've done a fair bit of roleplaying before and after doing one round as a civilian and another as a cargo tech I feel like I'm slowly getting the hang of the controls and flow of the game. Been interested in getting into SS13 for a while (years actually) but now since I'm stuck at home all day anyway I figured I'd give it a shot. Looking forward to encountering y'all in the game.1 point

Its a good thing screaming is also perfectly normal! Yup, no need to worry about the blood curdling screams you just heard down that dark hallway, that's just the vox talking. Welcome to para1 point

Hello everyone, I've been on the station for a while, but haven't really been visiting over here that much so it was long overdue. I play as Skeksis, an Unathi with a passion for explosives and space lube which also happens to be a coroner with taste for interior design and lights. He's tried his greenthumb but in the end, seems like planting grass everywhere didn't stick. I also play as David Dagomir, a very serious security officer with a passion for his job. He wants to become a Pod Pilot someday Mr Sadpaws the mime is frowning in a corner. Good thing Mr. Happypaws the clown always has some good honkin' fun to cheer him up1 point

When you're disconnected from the game, you're SSD, not AFK. So this is really about auto-cryo for people who're disconnected from the game - not simply AFK. If your internet dies for 30+ minutes, and you come back to find yourself a ghost, simply ahelp it. We'll likely send you back to lobby so you can rejoin. There are also ghost roles that you can join with. The vast majority of people who disconnect from the game for 15+ minutes have no intention of coming back. Often, those players are in important roles, like Engineering/Sec during blob, Chaplain during cult/vampire, RD during malf AI, etc. The longer we wait to remove them from the round, the longer the station is short a critical person during an emergency. Cult/Vampire rounds, for example, account for the Chaplain in their balance. If the timer was increased to 30 or 60 minutes, there would be a lot of rounds with a SSD chaplain which basically throws the entire round to the cult/vampires because the Chaplain was not cryoed in a timely fashion. Ultimately its a question of balancing your wants against the wants of the larger crew (who want, say, a Chaplain to be awake during vampire/cult, eng/sec to be awake during blob, etc). We're seeking to go with what is best for the majority here. More generally, SS13 is an online multiplayer game. For an online multiplayer game, a 15 minute timeout window is actually quite generous. Most of the online games I play will remove you if you are disconnected for 1 minute or less. We already give you a lot more time than most games do.1 point

I believe I have @Spacemanspark and @Drakeven to thank for this! Remodeled the firing range to hold a birthday party for me. Sadly, traitors and vampires weren't so nice as to take a break from their antagging.1 point

Been quite sometimes. Ready for wall of pics. Some of semi-commissions I've finished. Experimenting around with my own OCs and eventually remixing them into another universe-like themes. Last time I tried to remix them into feudal Japan samurai like. Now I just like the idea of world of criminal organisations. Field Agent "Blu Fin" (totally yoinked from my own ss13 character deep lore name) Operative "Iris". Tasked: Field overwatch. Annnd silly storyboard of these two. "We are colleagues now! Here's your arsenal. I'll show you how these phones work." Till next time!1 point

Vox-tiders. If you go hard and beat them into the pavement and toss them in a cell, a small militia will have formed outside the brig by the time you've set the timer. Now, I'm an oddball and love putting down rioters and xenos en-masse, but the security team as a whole shouldn't have to put up with that. Granted, I haven't seen this in a little while, but I'm inclined to think people will still do it if the conditions are right.1 point

Vox, Intergalactic Ace Attorneys, and Alissa Sommer. Most players see vox as an opportunity to play as a huge jerk, stealing because "muh shinies", smashing because "muh voxygen", and lying because "muh kin". IAAs that don't know what the role is about tend to do nothing but obstruct security and will always side with the prisoners, regardless of how in the wrong said prisoner is. Alissa is like morphine. She has a very neutralizing personality that I can't say no to, even when she wants to hang around the HoS's office, or when she breaks into security for a pair of jackboots. It's too easy to get distracted by her, which makes her my greatest bane to security.1 point

I'd like to clarify a few things on perma bans. A lot of people seem to think perma banning is an excessive punishment. We currently have ~12,000 perma bans active, out of ~45,000 bans total (As of 26/6/21) Bans are not done to punish the players. They are to protect the server and other players. A perma ban forces the player to appeal, apologise and acknowledge their mistake before they come back to the server. This also gives us an opportunity to assess the attitude of the player and their reasons for wanting to come back. Many perma bans result in a shorter duration than a temp ban due to the appeal process. Many temp bans have been extended to perma due to the abusive and disrespectful appeals.1 point
