  2. Exploration Journal and Relationships (Decided to remake the post in which i had the relationship's list cause no way in hell i would make a fancy image to everyone i knew, and before you ask, Noooo, of course i didnt stole the layout idea from @angelictactics's page, im offended you could even think that.) (Also putting in here the material i gather from the events im part of.) The Redspace Entities Affair Personal Relations: (I tried to include everyone which i have...somewhat frequent interactions, excluding people like...Arma-993, Rolf Svend(???), S.A.R.A, Zashora, Nika the pAI, Hungry Zaun and Zayatsu, cause i have no idea if those people are still active or plan on being active again. If your character is not in it, is either because i forgot you, dont really like you, or did not had enough interaction to form a opinion about you. Hit me up so we can change that.)

  3. Finally got around to doing one of these. It might have info that differs slightly from the character bio I posted, since this is IC information Nanotrasen has, rather than a full biography. Name: Fiona Phillips Age: 24 Gender: Female Species: Human (Genetic modification for deep space habitation present - see TSF patent 213512-A) Blood Type: B+ General Occupational Role(s): Security Officer Maintenance Technician EMT Biography: Much of the following section cannot be verified, and relies mostly on Ms. Phillips testimony. Parts of relevant transcripts have been appended where needed. Fiona Phillips' place of birth is a mining colony on G1618-X1634, a planetoid located in the debris field around Groombridge 1618, outside of the jurisdiction of any galactic government. Said planetoid has been recorded as a location of modest amounts of plasma ore of relatively low quality. As of the time of this document's last update (May 27th, 2565), the colony is defunct due to a massive failure of its atmospheric systems. Ms. Phillips has stated that she has no known living family members. Addendum: Excerpt from an interview log, 2560.04.23 [Clearance: Command, Security] Due to the collapse of the colony's education system, Ms. Phillips has been homeschooled from her birth (2541, precise day uncertain) until her mother's death in 2551. Forced to fend for herself from there on out, she engaged in minor criminal activity, primarily smuggling. In 2556, her arm and eyes were irreparably damaged by an IED explosion, and were replaced by crude cybernetics. Later that year, a cargo freighter had to dock at G1618-X1634 for critical repairs due to FTL failure. Ms. Phillips found her way into the ship's cargo hold and managed to successfully stow away. In early 2557, she managed to land an internship as a maintenance technician onboard an industrial space station owned by Cybersun Industries. Addendum: Excerpt from an interview log, 2559.04.28 [Clearance: Command, Security] Following her previous contract's termination in 2559, Ms. Phillips applied for an engineering position onboard NSS Cyberiad, and was hired after a successful job interview. During her time with Nanotrasen, she has pursued additional qualifications, including combat medic training. Qualifications: Ms. Phillips' previous position has prepared her for most if not all duties related to spacecraft construction and maintenance, as confirmed by evaluation exams 23-A and 23-B. As such, she can be expected to perform most Engineering duties onboard Nanotrasen space stations on an adequate level. Her particular backstory has made her a natural fit for mining operations in hostile environments. During her time with the company, Ms. Phillips has received combat medic training, including the use of both ballistic and energy-based firearms, close quarters combat, and emergency medicine. During her training, she excelled at low-gravity combat simulations, hinting at previous experience. Addendum: Excerpt from an interview log, 2562.02.12 [Clearance: Command, Security] Employment Records: According to her own testimony, Ms. Phillips has experience with most basic space station equipment due to being born on a planetoid mining colony. After leaving the planetoid at the age of 15, she had briefly worked odd jobs, mostly leveraging the rudimentary knowledge of space engineering she had acquired naturally as a denizen of a space station until eventually being employed in a chemical research facility. Thorough investigation has found no proof of many of Ms. Phillips' claims, however by that time she had already demonstrated that she does indeed have some form of experience with the maintenance and operation of various kinds of machinery. Her engineering skills have been thoroughly evaluated, and after passing the required tests, she was given maintenance technician certification. During her four years working for Nanotrasen, she has received combat medic training, as her build makes her naturally suited for security work. So far, her versatile skill set has been a benefit to the corporation, however close monitoring is recommended due to the impossibility of a proper background check, as well as her status as an independent contractor. Security Records: Ms. Phillips has been suspected of trespassing and theft on multiple occasions, however no charges have ever been pressed, either due to the lack of direct proof, or the actions being taken in good faith and for the betterment of the station. Ms. Phillips dossier is highly incomplete due to living on a failed planetoid colony - much of the information about her past cannot be verified. This uncertainty extends to the few years she has allegedly spent working in a chemical facility. During her combat training it became clear that she possesses some form of combat experience, though a number of bad habits suggests that it was most likely related to her past on the colony, and not any form of previous training. Due to a relative lack of verifiable information coupled with potentially dangerous skills, close monitoring is recommended. It is possible that Ms. Phillips has been approached by potentially dangerous organizations in the past, currently pending investigation. Addendum: Excerpt from an interview log, 2565.01.29 [Clearance: Command, Security] Medical Records: Note: Ms. Phillips might be unclonable due to a somewhat unstable genetic structure, as well as extensive implantation. Should this prove to be the case, alternative revival methods should be pursued. Ms. Phillips has been given a NT model 8-C cybernetic heart transplant in the past after her original heart was damaged beyond repair due to injury caused by a Prince of Terror. She had refused the organ's replacement for a long time, citing its sentimental value, but was forced to undergo such a procedure due to the implant being rendered nonfunctional by an electromagnetic pulse. It has been replaced by a lab-grown, organic heart. Her left arm as well as eyes were damaged beyond repair by an explosion, and have likewise been replaced by cybernetics. The arm is a modified version of a generic off-brand model, while the eyes appear to be customized Cybersun Industries Series 7 ocular implants. Her physical health is stellar in spite of having spent most of her life outside of planetary gravity, mostly due to her workout routine and extensive genetic modification. Her mental health is likewise good, although concerns have been raised about stress caused by overwork, as well as potential stimulant abuse. Addendum: Excerpt from an interview log, 2564.11.03 [Clearance: Command, Medical] Personnel Photo (Appearance text): Once I have money I'll commission something. Have this until then: https://imgur.com/a/hnh8xgh Standing tall at an imposing 195 cm (6'5), Fiona is toned and well-built, with a rather muscular frame. Her waist-length, platinum-blonde hair is fluffy and unkempt. Fiona's skin is clear, with an olive tone. Her face is somewhat sharp, with the most striking feature being the irises of her otherwise normal-looking eyes, which are obviously cybernetic and radiate with a soft, orange glow reminiscent of molten metal. Her left arm is cybernetic - it appears to be slightly battered, with some mismatching components and obvious signs of numerous repairs. It appears that she is missing about three-quarters of the original limb. She has a good posture, though an observant person could notice that she is not used to Earth-like gravity, though she still carries herself with light-hearted confidence. A few tiny scars, seemingly caused by small cuts, are visible on her body. Typically, Fiona dresses quite plainly, with her most common outfit consisting of a grey tank-top shirt, a pair of regular black jeans, and black combat boots. Sometimes, she exchanges the tank-top for a leather jacket worn over a black sleeveless crop top. She often wears fingerless gloves to protect her hands while retaining dexterity. On occasion, mostly while exercising, she instead wears black track pants and sneakers, as well as an athletic sleeveless red crop top.

  5. High pop has always been a dislike for me for to performance, lack of job slots and a low RP level due to so much chaos, but everyone else seems to enjoy it so I’m not going to be a dictator and change it. Code priorities shifted recently and as of now my priority is implementing 2FA for BYOND accounts on the server.

  6. I would love more advanced ingame scripting/nerd shit to do because I found that really entertaining, but sadly its too performance intensive to evaluate it all at runtime and manage, so its unlikely we will ever get something like that again.

  7. WARNING: This entire story is just complete nerd shit so prepare for technohell Expect more chapters as time goes on, but this is basically the chronicles of why you never want to become host Chapter listing Obtaining the damn server The pain of an OS install when your ISO is 6 gigabytes and moves at 3 megabytes a second The story of how windows (and/or asrock) sucks Moving everything to a new platform The first performance test, AKA byond sucks on linux Getting the game running on windows How to migrate with minimal downtime Why emulation sucks and paravirtualisation is the future (EXTRA EXTRA: BYOND sucks) The woes of getting logs into a nice viewer without killing the CPU BONUS CHAPTER - Remotely managing a server where you dont have a KVM/IPMI console

  8. Conclusion post This is just a tiny glimpse into the hell of hosting, and why it takes so many hours and why its so draining on people. This entire thread only covers some of my issues, and doesnt even go into VPN Hell Thread-pinning to avoid resource conflicts Juggling multiple IPs DNS Webserver mail sending hell DNS Did I mention DNS? So yeah, this is why the git has been a bit slow. Theres been a lot to deal with, and an entire mix of IRL hell too. But hey, atleast things are where they are now.

  9. Chapter 6 - Getting the game running on windows I was wanting to avoid hosting on windows for many reasons, but most importantly, windows update. God I despise windows update. Whats this? You're running a production server and you have active connections doing shit? Too bad, update time. The VM itself had slept a few times before I switched to it over, which meant I had a lot of policy tweaking to do, to make sure that the windows VM never shut down under any circumstances to keep the game running. It took some doing, but I got there in the end. The major disadvantage with windows is lack of paravirtualisation (More in chapter 8), this was a slight performance loss at first (It got much worse later), but I bit the bullet and deemed it fine enough to continue working, especially since the windows performance tests were proving fruitful. Players werent whining and people were starting to say it was better than before. Things were starting to look up. The only major hurdle was moving stuff such as game logs (runtime_summary from endround) from a windows host to a linux host, but that was easily overcome with SMB shares. For anyone curious, this is how minimal the windows install on the gameserver is

  10. It sucks that it was shot down, but I do genuinely appreciate that it seems to be largely out of concern for lgbt+ people rather than dismissal or distaste. The "THE LOBERALS WILL TEAR ME APART FOR THIS!!" posts followed by nobody even being mildly unreasonable are all really baffling though.

  13. F Tier: The Security HoP Doesn't know what's he supposed to do, after much effort manages to give himself All Access. Sees an energy pistol and armor inside his locker, figures out what is his life's purpose. Gets job banned when he goes after someone for simply banging in his window looking for a job change. Sometimes he thinks Ian is a target practice for his cowboy accuracy with energy pistol. E Tier: The Free Slot Giveaway HoP After being unbanned from F tier behaviour figures out what's HoP purpose on the station, learning how to swipe card's on his identification computer. They will give anything his line requests, access? No problem. AA for clown? Of course! They don't know how to verify free slot's, will transfer crew without asking for Head of Department's permission. They don't know it's against SOP to hire karma jobs without it being authorized. Gets demoted by the captain after a scientist he hired without RD permission explodes departures. They think that Ian true home is disposals. D Tier: The AA HoP He thinks it's his right to keep an AA card for himself since he's able to make one. Keeps an AA ID in the console at all times in order to facilitate his life. Ignores termination and demotion request's, leaving those card's at his table while he's out with his desk window open. He has no idea that it's his job to command supply and service department's. They think it's fine to increase clown job slot's when the station clown comes asking for it. They will ignore completely his fax, will never notice the excellent IAA report he just received about bad crew in need of demotion. Walk's around with AA ID in his pocket thinking he's allowed to enter any department he wishes. They give Ian AA ID card when he comes asking for it with his cute dog face. C Tier: The Swipe Man! / Paperwork Lunatic HoP The Paperwork Lunatic HoP doesn't know the good amount of paperwork, will request both signature AND stamp for everything. They won't recognize fake signatures, free job's for antags. They demand paperwork for petty thing's, as an example: Crew requesting custom job title to ''hobo''. The Paperwork Lunatic has killed many baldies by SSD in his line, one minute of silence for them. The Swipe Man is almost the same as the bridge captain, stays at his chair the entire shift, will do the minimum required by SOP. Only know's how to swipe IDs, doesn't even give himself the effort to change ID/PDA skins. 30 minutes into the shift, after his line has been dealt with, they will cryo thinking HoP job is boring. They know that it's their job to command supply and service department, but won't put much effort in it, will only verify those department's if requested by someone. Think's service radio channel is urban legend. They will kick out Ian thinking he's a waste of space. B Tier: The Personnel Manager HoP Those HoPs are good manager's, will notice wich department is lacking and will always find the perfect job for you. Will rapidly identify new player's, assigning people to teach them at his new job department. They are good at leading supply and service department's, will stay present at all times in both comms asking if someone is having problem's. B tier paperwork HoPs know's the good amount of paperwork required, they wont be requiring it for things like custom job changes or during emergencies. They won't leave their line for more than five minutes, even if they are almost starving to death. They know how to use the ticket system properly, also know's how to deactivate if it's not being used. They will take care of Lost/Terminated IDs and won't leave them in places to be stolen. Always changes peoples ID/PDAs skins. Ian will be receiving an ID with minimum access and will be cared by the HoP during the entire shift. A Tier: The Paperwork Cultist They only have one God inside their hearts, and it is the Paperwork God, for him he shall work, for him he shall give his entire life. They will set Heads as priority round start before the captain even thinks about doing that. Will always ask the captain how many explorers he wants as his introduction to command channel. Has it's own custom forms for efficient paperwork lines. A tier Paperwork HoP wont be at his chair waiting for someone to fill his form, he will go out of his way to attend multiple people at once! They try to improve supply shift by teaching QMs on how to be efficient while preparing for Cargonia Revolution. They will treat service as the same way he would any other department, always trying to help those without anything to do, examples: Making announcements for chapel events/Using your free time to be the barber's only client in the entire shift. They are not abductor's easy prey, will always be aware of his surroundings with his baton next to his hand for easy access. They will not be giving additional access for petty things, favoring guest pass or even going with him to get what he wants. They are loyal to Arstotzka Nanotrasen, will never take bribes for anything! Ian will be loved by them during the entire shift, with new clothes and tours every 20 minutes!

  14. No, paperwork by itself doesn't make someone a good HoP, but those who makes use of it while doing it in a way that doesn't wastes people time deserves applause. There are A tier HoPs that doesnt make use of it, its just that they can be divided into two kinds.
