Really simple tiny thing, maybe a stupid idea. There's currently a sort of animation where a humanoid sprite can slightly vibrate when the humanoid has taken drugs to make them more energetic / high. Could this vibration effect be applied while a character is running/walking (only during voluntary movement, so not dragged or pushed etc.) to imply their body moving as they walk? It might break up the monotony of the person sliding along the floor upright as they move. A super hackjob implementation could be to just trigger it while at least one directional movement key is pressed in the client.

It was an overwhelming shift. I'd already got dried blood on my warden's uniform and it was barely an hour in. A lot of the prisoners were being especially difficult, and one broke out and assaulted officers sufficient times that I dragged his stunbatoned, twitching body to Solitary Confinement. I left him with nothing but pen and paper and told him to write to pass the time - whatever he'd written at the end of the shift I'd read. Rather later, I return and open his cell door. Every wall and floor, table and chair is covered in a mixture of blood and vomit. He was barely alive, but on the paper he'd written a four and a half thousand word essay which, with his dying breaths, he implored me to publish, so here it is. You can find the complete work here: http://txti.es/paradisemanifesto

I'm skeptical about an item like that. The fun of being a traitor is trying to hide what you're doing, not rely on RNG to either make your life too easy or too hard. Rule #1 of game design: Don't take control away from players to determine their own destiny.

Could we set up a git document or google doc or forum thread in which people can submit their objective proposals? If you publicised it I'm sure it would fill up with suggestions right away.

Why I think the Vox changes should be rolled back
Diseasel replied to Diseasel's topic in Suggestions
I can't say this doesn't really aggravate me, especially since 60% of Vox players want Magclaws back, and I never ever heard of balance complaints until you changed it. Either way, I can't stop you if you're adamant about newVox being only Vox. I still think the idea of a separate setting of oldVox such as PJB3005 implemented is a good idea. So if back-Nitrogen-tank was a character setup option and Magclaws are available from EVA to certain jobs, what does that leave us with? Vox now have blood and can't be resurrected? -

I love you guys so goddamn much. <3 Many hugs from the Arkship; see you on the station, Meatbags! -
Why I think the Vox changes should be rolled back
Diseasel replied to Diseasel's topic in Suggestions
That's almost plausible. I like it. With a bit of rework I can see that the lore could support both old Vox and new Vox. We've got over half of people here protesting the new Vox in some way or other. Can I get some confirmation as to whether optional rollbacks will be implemented? For example, as Kei' suggested, having a backslot N2 tank as an option instead of backpack/satchel in character setup, or having magclaws selectable under the prosthetics menu. Or just making a seperate selectable species of oldVox available to all who've unlocked Vox. Cheers! -
Yes. I support the buffing of gas masks, but I would suggest to balance this they could simultaneously be restricted to spawning in specific areas like magboots are. They seem very prolific at the moment, with them popping up in every vent and fire closet across the station.
-
Makes sense to implement. Besides, any balanced feature that doesn't affect you unless you interact with it by choice makes sense to implement.
-
Deafness implementation could be so subtle that it required very prolonged point blank exposure to weapons fire to do anything major. You could even implement just a very short 5 second debuff that garbles speech you hear after a gun goes off next to you.

Boom Headshot! (aka, where to hit your enemy)
Diseasel replied to SpaceTimeNow's topic in Suggestions
I second this suggestion. If you hate RNG and want reliable hits, aim chest. If you want to roll the dice and get contextual effects, hit something else. Bonus points if you code in passing out from the pain of getting your balls shot off. -
Why I think the Vox changes should be rolled back

Dude, I love you so much. Thank you so much if you do this, it would make me so happy. I'm happy to accept the nerfs like removing leap and not being cloneable, all I want is to be superficially identical to the old Vox and to be able to naked EVA like the old days as balance for the nerfs. Because of how I read up on the lore when I made my character before the changes, I decided that the magclaws were actual prosthetic replacements for my character's feet (the toggleable prosthetics look awful on Vox, and Vox are supposed to be more machine than bird anyway). If there were a forced speed reduction on oldVox magclaws while the mag was disabled, I would have a hard time of things, as I wouldn't be able to remove the magclaws for RP reasons. Having a speed reduction with mag enabled is perfectly understandable. Thank you again, you're really improving my happiness if you bring this back for me. -
Why I think the Vox changes should be rolled back

Is there some way of implementing a choice? For example, magclaws could be spawned in EVA (unless they're still there) or available at all magboots places such as mining and engineering. A slightly more complicated route could be to make it an option in the character setup screen. Really I want to protest all the changes, but I understand that other people feel differently and we should reach a compromise. I never used Leap myself, but I felt that the naked EVA, no blood and Magclaws were a fantastic balance to the necessity to carry around a massive tank in your back slot. I enjoyed the fact that it was a DIFFERENT PLAYSTYLE to the other races. I understand that players have race favouritism but surely part of choosing a race involves weighing up the pros and cons and not simply protesting that your chosen race doesn't have the same capability to play certain roles as the other races. Security is by far my most played role; I loved the challenge of the old Vox playstyle in that role; I wouldn't want it to be the same as playing the other races. If you want to powergame security, why not pick a race that can do so, rather than protest that you want the races homogenized? Please coders, I beg you, by hell or high water just give me some way to get my old Vox back. Or if you flat out refuse to do that, at least give me my karma back. -

That's a good point about the tank. Perhaps the Vox embassy could stock both so players could run in at the start of a round and swap if they don't like their current one. My point stands on Magclaws: They're claws. The new ability to wear shoes (and come with them by default, not even the need for sandals like Tajarans) seems very OOC for a race with big taloned bird feet. If we're getting rid of magclaws at least adjust the sprite to look like bird feet. I'm sorry, I just feel quite passionately about game mechanics and physical appearances reflecting lore. Plus if your main focus on Vox is RP then having the physical appearance changes rolled back to make me happy won't affect that so we both win. :3 -
Why I think the Vox changes should be rolled back

Amen. Also, on the old Nitrogen tank, I really liked how it looked as a sprite. This new crotch tank looks incredibly weird. I liked how the old tank gave the Vox a hunchback appearance, again exaggerating their alien form. -
Good work on the latest patches, but I'd like to officially protest the Vox changes. I feel like much of the point of Vox is to emphasize their alien nature. They're supposed to be bird shaped, inhuman, alien, and very small of stature. People who karma unlock the Vox do so because Vox are supposed to be different to the other races. When you homogenize the races, it makes unlocking them moot. Getting rid of their Magclaws I think is a huge mistake, as they accentuated the alien design. To be allowed to wear shoes now seems very out of character for them. Also, would the shoes not be hilariously big on their small feetsies? To a lesser degree, but for the same reasons, I feel the new nitrogen tank is a bad move. I really enjoyed having to think carefully about my inventory because I didn't have a backpack, or to wear a backpack while carrying my tank in hand. Finally, I enjoyed the ability to leap as a counterbalance for the greater difficulties of working with a large nitrogen tank. To all the people that protest it makes Vox too difficult to play: This game emphasizes RP. If you wish to powergame, choose a race that's easy to powergame such as the starting races. I want to RP, please please just let me RP something that's weird and different. That's why I spent every penny of the karma I have earned here on Vox, and I miss my old Vox a lot. tl;dr: - Please roll-back the nitrogen tank - Please roll-back to the magclaws That's all I really want.

Not yet. Bear in mind I only began SS13 recently: I've probably played less than 25 rounds total, so I'm learning as I go. I'll try and do a good setup and take a picture for you. Why don't you join me in Atmosia some time and we can have a tinker together? Just find me in game some time and suggest we do it the following shift.

If I'm short of time at the beginning I'll route waste through the cooling/heating system to buffer the temperature and pre-emptively fill mix with pure Carbon Dioxide for extreme cases of firefighting or for helping Sec and the AI knock syndies unconscious. If I have a lot of time I'll hook up all distro to flow through the cooling/heating system on its way out at 78 kelvin, and I'll take apart mix to put connector ports on the output of every tank (partly to make filling cannisters easier [for things like the SM engine's plasma guzzling] and partly to make it MUCH more tedious for someone to sabotage atmos with the intent of filling the station with unpleasant chemicals). Having scrubbers return the pressure to optimal levels with supercooled air I find doesn't affect the station negatively as the general activity of the station tends to buoy the temperature up, and it also means I can flood areas with supercooled air in the event of a fire or other hazard. Anyway, I'm from north Ahdomai with fur to match. It's cold as b*lls there, so a cooler station is much more comfortable for me.

For all IC intents and purposes please assume this character is the same as Rem'Ontoire. This whole thing is a spirited attempt to clean up my RP into something respectable with a bit of backstory, hopefully without losing the relationships so far formed with crew members. Hence I am trying to keep the name the same within the bounds of Tajaran language and just clear up my IC dialect, behaviour and backstory. BASIC INFO Name: Rem' Age: ??? Gender: Male ♂ Race: Zhan-Khazan Tajaran Blood Type: O- Language(s): Almost drunkenly slurred Common, but spoken with dignity and a good vocabulary General Occupational Role(s): Security (mostly senior roles); Engineering (atmospherics, engine tech. and senior roles) CHARACTER INFO Pre-NanoTransen Years: Born into the Moi'reibh tribe on Ahdomai into a family of 3 siblings and raised by his aunts more than his parents. An uneventful kittenhood flowed into the natural rhythm of the tribe's way of life: In the summer buying or stealing scrap and broken electronics and repairing them to sell on, and in the winter returning north to fish the rivers. When he came of age, he protested his family's intent to wed him to a friendly tribe's Rhezar's daughter. He also refused all other marriage offers and instead declared the pressure put upon him as the last straw in what was apparently a growing discomfort with tribal life. Collecting all his belongings in a single backpack and nuzzling his harrowed family goodbye he set off down the summer paths through the alpine landscape - the southern border of what was then his whole world. No idea of what he would find, his notions of the outside world were built entirely on the few outsiders he had watched his parents talk business with over cups of hot fish blood. It was Nanotransen that he would walk into the hands of. The political state on Ahdomai was not unfamiliar with clansfolk deserting their traditions to work for the human production companies. "The alleys are paved with gold, friend." Like many other wandering Tajara, unbound to family left behind nor assets to speak of, Rem' was quickly absorbed into the sizeable Tajaran workers' union in the northern NT production conglomerate where he worked contentedly for many years, always safeguarding the fishbone amulets around his neck - the only artifact he had from his kittenhood. Over several years of work as a mechanic a severe distrust for humans grew bordering on outright hatred. Although not a direct victim of the Overseers, Rem' had heard enough tales to see NT as no better. Rem's level head, inertia to anger, and patience to sit and listen to others solidified many friendships. When it finally came time to leave Ahdomai to be posted elsewhere, Rem' had become a union chairman, although that position was lost with the new post along with almost all his new family. The post was of course the NSS Cyberiad. Personality Overview: Always happy to help those who ask for help, especially Vox and Tajarans. Has a complete disregard for the value of Human life. Patient and slow to anger unless confronted about his race or called a racial slur, especially those relating to tribal origin; he responds to such confrontation with disproportional violence and blind rage. No concept of company ownership: All items not claimed by a person are considered fair game for him to take and hoard. Often seen using downtime to knead his muscles and complain. Needs alcohol and nicotine to get through the working day. Rrrrrrrreally rrrrrrrolls his 'R's. QUALIFICATIONS AND RECORDS Qualifications: Good experience with security work as both officer, warden and Head of Security. Good experience with engineering, particularly atmospherics. Very poor literacy. Employment Records: Head of Security; Warden; Security Officer, Chief Engineer, Atmospheric Technician; Engine Technician Security Records: Numerous cases of severe police brutality against humans, often provoked by the victims' use of colloquial derogatory terms for Tajarans. Furthermore, there have been several circulating rumours of Rem' threatening to "remove [someone's] eyeballs" with a screwdriver for calling him a "cat". Medical Records: Regular visits to a psychiatrist for sexual frustration, citing that he has exclusive sexual attraction to Vox. Personnel Photo (Appearance text): Surprisingly short of stature for a Zhan-Khazan Tajaran, this aged looking male stands around 5 feet tall. Oily grey fur over his body reaches a darker coloured crest atop his head, which runs down his spine and tail. He has wispy matted growth of white chin fur and slight nuclear sclerosis in his grey-green eyes. Despite his small size he is stocky and quite muscular. He is missing his upper right fang.
