When batons were changed from insta-stun to haloss (or stamina, whatever), people at first were "WTF BATON USELESS" but then after a while they liked it. This didn't happen with tasers. We dont enforce that kind of knowledge, or roleplayed ignorance. Admins will only be annoyed if you talk too loud about the DeathSquad or Spider Clan or such, and even then its not a reason to ban or even warm a player about it (but that doesnt mean we won't screw a bit with the player, from giving him brain damage to actually sending a reaper space ninja after him for "knowing too much"). You are free to roleplay whatever knowledge you want about apex, I'd say. It's preferable if you have an IC explanation as for how do you know about it (being a xenoscietist who studies vox or something). Just make us all a favour and don't put "my father is a vox apex" in your flavour text.

From what I know, in theory toxins research is supposed to develop weapons with plasma. And telescience is bluespace related research. In the practice, toxins is "blow up stuff yourself everything", and telescience is "steal everything".

I love this, it adds the much needed racial differences and doesnt alter balance, because junk-food is avaiable anywhere. Buuuuut... Plasma spills in the toxins research room have been an ancient tradition since ever, and the bane of any engineer/atmostech wishing for a green alerts console. The entire toxins lab should be moved to the toxins test chamber, more explosions happen in the lab than in the chamber anyways.
