  1. "I don't believe it's sound judgement to object against players responding lethally to an antagonist killing them, becuase the defender was initally helping someone else." ^ Main issue here is that applied to everyone, people would just take this as an excuse to validhunt, just with the added step of "spam-shove them until they retaliate first". It'd be really easy to attempt to press an antag into attacking you and then just stab them to death when they give you a warning shot.
  2. this is missile launcher she's eleven years old and evil (bonus baby picture)
  3. More thoughts (sorry for rambling)- In response to the "it'll invite trolling" argument I've seen before, I don't think that's really fair. The people that would target those with differing pronouns or create wild caricatures were already people that had no interest in following the rules surrounding bigotry. I actually have seen people make their character dark-skinned for the sole purpose of RPing a racist caricature; it'd be weird to argue we should only have light skin tones available in character gen because of that. The people using these features in bad faith aren't generally so subtle about it that avoiding it altogether "just in case" makes sense. A transphobe will just be transphobic if they want to be. Blocking features that people may genuinely like and make use of just because of a small handful of theoretical bad actors is, in my opinion, just letting them win. As for writing lore about alien genders being too "weird" or "dumb", I don't really think gender is inherently any weirder, more taboo, or more convoluted than anything else we've had in the lore. "Here's this specie's unique genders as defined within their species, here's how they're viewed within their own society and without, how their different views may clash with other cultures, and how interacting with other species has changed and influenced their own perceptions" is all potentially very interesting to explore; and if you don't personally think that's interesting, and would rather RP your alien as a man or woman rather than a smorp or a plorp or whatever, that's fine. We're MRP; there's no rules on the server enforcing lore compliance. Nobody's gonna hold a gun to anybody's head and force them to be a plorp. You can just be a man or a woman and you don't really owe anyone an explanation. If you need an explanation, though, you could always just say your part of the planet adopted human ideas of gender due to cultural exchange, or your character was a cross-species adoptee, or your character's trying to fit in better with a majority-binary crew, etc etc etc. Really, if the very idea of "aliens with non-standard genders or gender roles" makes you uncomfortable, there's nothing forcing you to engage with it, and there still wouldn't be even if it was part of the official lore.
  4. I don't really understand how writing about a species' unique view on gender is any different than writing on what kind of food they eat or what kind of religions they have. It'd ultimately just be a different option in a dropdown menu that you're free to ignore.
  5. ss13, defined in one screenshot
  6. I've had several rounds where people have combed the station for sentient pets specifically looking to kill any that've been ghosted into, scientists chasing down drones to smash/deconstruct them for no reason, and been locked in a fridge for the specific purpose of being forced to ghost and lose respawnability. People are just dicks to ghost roles.
  7. To be entirely clear: I have absolutely zero idea how to actually implement this. I can alter the sprites, but making the colors actually selectable at character generation is a little beyond me.
  8. you're absolutely correct about antag/sec interactions- trying to run a gimmick or do something interesting story-wise just ends up with the antag stunned and gg'd mid-sentence for their trouble, nine times out of ten.
  9. Yeah, my monitor's color calibration is ever-so-slightly off in a way I've tried and failed to fix. It's supposed to be brick red!
  10. I posted this on the discord, but I figure I'd throw this here too, just in case. Basically, I think it'd add a lot more individuality to the five or six Kidan characters to have a few more carapace options to pick from. They'd have a limited list of colors in a similar way to Vox, so no neon pink bugs scuttling around station. I've done a mockup of what I think some decent options would be. Yellow might be a little ugly, but it's my attempt to include a 'citronella ant' option. White's meant to evoke what an insect looks like immediately post-shed. Well, thanks for reading.
  11. Once many, many years ago I swear I accidentally removed a guy's whole torso. He was fine.
  12. check out cataclysm: dark days ahead if you haven't already!
  13. I like the darker floors, but the formerly-white tiles could be a little brighter, and I've seen people say that all the little dot grids make them feel kinda nauseous. I enjoy the tileless floor sprites, they're good. I also appreciate that bluespace tiles are much less hideous now.
  14. This is a really cute idea. I think it'd be neat to have things like terrariums, too. Maybe you'd even be able to put spiderlings in it (though they wouldn't grow up once caught of course).
  15. 1. Quartermaster 2. 3. 4. 5. Zven
  16. The hugging module can be increased in power to cause discomfort. It'd be kind of darkly funny if an emagged mediborg's hugging module could be toggled to work as grab intent instead of help, adding the potential for a hug to turn into a crushing/strangling grip. If crushing it'd do brute damage over time and possibly damage the lungs as the borg literally hugs you to death. Grabs are obvious+easy enough to escape before they're upgraded to a kill-grab that a potential target would need to be restrained for it to have much effect; and considering a murderous mediborg would probably unleash the circular saw on somebody before they'd think to go for the Death Embrace, the effect would mostly be for flavor/silly/drama.
  17. just wanted to update this thread to thank everyone for answering, seeing people be genuinely compassionate and helpful in response to my question actually put me a lot more at ease and I ended up having a pretty successful cultist round :)
  18. I know posting this is probably outing myself as some sort of gigantic wimp, but I figured I'd at least ask in case somebody has advice. Does anyone else deal with wanting to play an antag, knowing *in theory* how to play said antag, but immediately getting locked down by debilitating stage fright if you actually roll it? If so, how did you work past it? I know the only way to get better at antagging is to play it and practice, but the whole "silent panel of invisible judges potentially watching your every move" thing trips me up hardcore. It's disheartening, because I feel like it'd be really fun if it weren't for the mental block! It keeps me from really committing to playing security or any kind of head, either. Thankfully spiders and xenos are an exception because, well, they're rare enough that I'm definitely never the baldest one in the bunch, and being one of those is fairly straightforward.
  19. Hey there, I might be showing a few new players the basics of the game soon. I figured a fun way to do it would be to RP a tour guide showing them around the station. Do y'all have any suggestions for anything fun/stupid/silly/informative I could do with this? Much appreciated :)
  20. they can eat small creatures, they oughta be able to eat bees, just for the hell of it. Deals toxins damage and hurts like hell. And appends a message in their description informing them that they now look like this
  21. I really love how shiny you make the hair!!
  22. It sucks that it was shot down, but I do genuinely appreciate that it seems to be largely out of concern for lgbt+ people rather than dismissal or distaste. The "THE LOBERALS WILL TEAR ME APART FOR THIS!!" posts followed by nobody even being mildly unreasonable are all really baffling though.
  23. What does it matter what's possible in real life in a game where farting on a bible makes you explode? Personally, I think more customization options never hurt anybody. The gender and body options could be separated so people can have whatever combo they like. I don't know how easy that'd be to program, but it seems to me like it'd be a worthwhile effort.
