Discussion: Limiting firelocks opening to crowbars/AI's
Shadeykins replied to MarkvA's topic in Suggestions
I wholeheartedly support this, as long as the firelocks close faster (IE: outright disabling the ability of people to pull fire alarms and run away) or the fire alarm panels get access restricted. Otherwise it's just going to be used as an annoyance by clowns rather than something that saves/kills people. -
IE: The act of consuming whatever it is from botany, and having the sprite grow to astronomical proportions. I sincerely fail to see how this mechanic adds anything to Paradise, especially when we've been actively fighting to retain "medium" RP. It's silly, and fun, but 80 foot high skyscrapers running down the hallway really don't contribute anything outside of that initial kneejerk laugh. Certain mechanics can have an astronomical impact on how seriously a player is willing to take the server, and to what extent people are reasonably going to roleplay in any sense of the word. This is one of those mechanics. Catdrugs on Goon is a great example of this sort of thing. Mechanics can, and do have an impact on the general level of roleplay you can expect in a server.

This thread is just weird, and this is coming from someone who jokes about sexy xenomorphs and has OC's with toasters for heads.

ComedIan would suffice over "The ComedIan".

Plasmameme, And it's current state [Poll too]

They're immune to viruses (more or less) and lack blood (therefore being unable to bleed out). Maybe make them be slightly more resilient to having their bones broken. Really the main things here should be welding protection on engineering/atmos/ce plasmasuits, as well as tesla/singulo resistance. (Singulo marked by a slightly higher uptick on radiation resistance). -
Conversely this can lead to the opposite issue of botanists deliberately naming things to be misleading (which I think will be the case more often than not, as botany has little accountability). I think just having the modified items coming out of botany always retain the "modified" prefix would be a better solution. This would let people know the produce contains something else.

I like how "rough" the drawings are. I'm literally talking about the way you draw lines for reference, I prefer rough lines over smooth, contiguous, clean-cut ones. It lends a certain quality to your art, especially in stylistic terms.

A rework is definitely needed. Things like vines and viruses should also be pushed to rando events, there is nothing worse than a midround event that's just some crappy vines that die in two seconds. The same goes for borers, honestly.

This little bit of guidance and the annoyances of not being able to use regular clothing or magboots have created the thriving Vox culture we have today. A problem that seems to occur whenever this issue is raised is one of intent. Species diversity means many things to many people entirely separated from then the discussion as to if species differentiation is a goal. Thanks for bringing this up. I noticed it was clipped out of the revised Vox lore, and added it back in.

Reeeee, SS13 doesn't exist. It's the NSS Cyberiad. D:<

Totes would, if only I had RUST. D:

...The wiki was made by said developers, and it shows the tone of the game itself. Is that not what said developers wanted? And since when is SS13 popular I mean I 700 people is a lot to us but by normal standards we're probably sitting around the 93054892574289475209 place in terms of gaming popularity come on. I would argue that SS13 is relatively popular by those standards given the duration it's been going. Consider how many other multiplayer platforms immediately die after 1-2 years. The Para wiki was not made by the developers. It is a hodge podge of user submissions to the Bay wiki (then copied over) and a handful of things from /tg/ and goon wikis. I'd say we're at least 50% or 60% unique Paradise-wiki writing at this point. Eventually our goal should be to remove the disclaimer stating that the contents of our wiki have been ported from elsewhere.

You can still do this via traits or exceptions. Unathi sandals/Tajaran glovesnipping being mandatory was an example of this. All the cats had to immediately steal the calip- wirecutters.

No fun allowed? If someone is too dense to get the joke after the first first obvious puns they probably shouldn't be playing in the first place. It's a game, "professional" shouldn't be coming anywhere near it IMO. The goon wiki does it well, cheeto-stained archives and all makes it fairly clear to take everything tongue in cheek. A little banner in the corner WITH BIG RED LETTERS making obvious wouldn't be amiss though I suppose. No fun allowed if it's a serious wiki resource that's going to be referenced frequently. If it's about a memey topic and it's smart sure, but there really shouldn't be jokes on the guides, SoP pages, etc. There are a lot of people who have English as a second language who play on this server, and a lot of context/word specific jokes will never make sense to non-native speakers of a language. Conversely if we were a Russian server I would advocate the same, because people who speak Russian as a second language *also* wouldn't get a lot of these jokes. A great number of puns rely on a strong control of the language at hand, and there's also the matter of idioms or culturally specific jokes that non-native speakers almost never catch onto. The medical guide prior to being rewritten was reamed full of jokes, and I've seen legitimate misunderstandings crop up in rounds because people took them at face value. As for being a game, pretty much every popular video game has a professionally written wiki that doesn't utilize jokes, many of which are maintained by the developers themselves. We market ourselves as a far more serious server than Goon does, and the format of our wiki should present us as such. tl;dr Jokes are probably OK if they're on minor pages such as map pages, item pages, or on a "Guide to playing Ian" sort of page. They shouldn't appear on things like the Guide to Chemistry, Guide to Xenobiology, Guide to Engineering, Job Pages, SoP pages, lore pages, or other serious content. They should also probably be smarter jokes, rather than the usual jokes of "commit suicide" or "as security it is your job to beat the clown to death" that I see plastered on the wiki from time to time. EDIT: A good example of a joke that can fit even on a serious page is the description of the IV drip. "Used for giving or taking blood. Can also be used to inject chemicals, efficiently produce synthmeat, or as a portable coffee machine." I just really don't think we should be laying on the cheetos and go kill yourself sort of humour (which seems to be the bulk of humour I see on the wiki).

General Crew: All personnel are required to maximize their Suit Sensors; All personnel are to remain inside their Departments for the duration of Code Red, unless specifically requested by Security and/or Command; Visitors to the station (anyone with Civilian-level access) are to remain inside the Bar, Library or Dormitories for the duration of Code Red; Personnel are to follow the instructions of Security staff, so long as they are within the bounds of Space Law and are not acting against the general well-being of the station and its crew. Failure to do so may lead to their arrest for Creating a Workplace Hazard It could ostensibly be covered under Code Red Standard Operating Procedure, but I wouldn't mind seeing something specific.

I wouldn't mind a partial increase on the range of telepathy, but the largest issue is of course traitor-negation without the traitor being aware that you've outed them.

Surprised this hasn't come up already considering how comms-breaking the PDA chatrooms are. Simple solution? Limit their size to eight. Why eight? Because that's all you ever need them to be and is enough to fit the CMO, HoS, HoP, Captain, RD, CE, Blueshield and NT Rep into a room. (Magistrates need not apply C:<)
-
Many of these jobs are under the purview of the HoS, who all too often is busy running around getting himself kidnapped. I think Streaky brought up this idea aeons ago, and it's been brought up a few times after that.

I'm firmly in support of making the wiki a professionally toned resource and cutting choppy humour out of it. I don't mind if there's implied or abstract humour but we shouldn't deliberately convey information in a way that's "funny". Not only do the needless jokes bloat the size of pages artificially, they're also just more information that you need to parse that ultimately make it harder to find what you're looking for. Ultimately the goal should be to make the wiki stand out as a strong resource for new and veteran players alike that's not only easy to access, but easy to understand with little misconstruement.
-
I believe the issue is it doesn't use refill carts at all. From a coding perspective, making it accept the snack vending machine ones shouldn't be too hard and would solve this problem.

I refuse to use GitHub comments, which are effectively just an even more shuttered view of community opinion. Hence why my thoughts on the matter are going here. -
This is forced by admins, not mechanically forced. I wouldn't mind seeing a 30 min forced delay on shuttle calls if an ERT is called in though.
