Non-secret antags ending the round upon death? No thanks!
Shadeykins replied to Keroman's topic in Suggestions
Also removes the brain, at which point borging is irrelevant. If you can borg someone, you can always also clone them. They haven't whenever I played with them. It's pulverized the brain when I have messed around in local with it. That's what I meant by removed, bad word choice! Anyways, still in support of this - maybe just for WIZARD really. -
It's linked now, but wasn't at any given point in any of the lore pages. Unless it's on an ominous, hidden guide of listings you must have found it through a search or a random page button (or it's somewhere I don't know of) Either way, it's properly linked now.

The bar of plasma is in fact there from old chemistry. Plasma used to be a catalyst for several recipes and was never actually consumed in the recipes themselves (save one), making it infinitely reusable. Omnizine is misspelled as omnizone.

Posters for these guns already exist in-game, so their implementation is already supported. Why not?

Non-secret antags ending the round upon death? No thanks!
Shadeykins replied to Keroman's topic in Suggestions
I get that extended rounds can be boring, that's why it would be cool for an Admin to step in and prompt some fun events for the players. Engineers still repairing the station from a fireball-happy wizard? Here, have some Meaty-Ores too! Malf AI destroyed? Time to build another one, too bad you're without an AI who can help you track those xenomorphs that just popped up! The round can absolutely still be interesting. As far as dealing with the victims of the antags, well, ideally the medbay will be cloning every dead body they can get their hands on. For uncloneable crew they could be borged (although I know not everyone appreciates that.) This is another area where Admin prompting events will help. People stuck observing could, as I stated in my original post, be called in as an Engineering ERT to help fix the damage. If most of Security is dead from facing down Nuke Ops then a regular ERT could be sent in to function as a security team until more officers are sent to the station to replace the dead ones. Some of the dead players could end up as xeno larvae, cortical borers, etc. There's plenty of options for getting them back into the round, really. I'd like to point out that nobody is ever "uncloneable" unless they have left the game/their body and refuse to rejoin the round. Borging someone when cloning is an option (and it always is) amounts to murder. -
Waiting on headmin approval.

Should illegal implants be hidden from body scanners?
Shadeykins replied to Crazylemon's topic in Suggestions
I think that's a healthy compromise. Upgraded advanced scanners can detect illicit implants. -
Realistically I don't think all of genetic distribution needs to be covered by SoP, simply ones that are easily abusable such as ice powers, TK, matter eater and hulk. Anything that could be reasonably construed as a weapon.

Map of the Cyberiad's power grid, and some notes

The AI sattelite has infinismes's. And yeah, there's a couple places you can cut (engineering maint for instance) that basically kills power the the entire station. Fun times! -
If you can figure out what type of RAM they use (DDR4 sounds like a likely candidate) versus the one presently installed in the server, I'm more than willing to spring for the price of the components. I'm honestly surprised at the disparity of dedicated coders as well, considering that Paradise is typically the more popular server when listed.
-
Now I'm curious, as TG runs LINDA at 4x with little impact on performance (their server performance seems reasonable in my experience) why is it such a ticking point for Paradise? I've been informed that Paradise has what more or less amounts to the best possible hardware available to run an SS13 server (By both Necaldun and Tully I believe), yet there's a drastic disparity between LINDA 4x on Para, and LINDA 4x on TG. And thank you, that's a stronger reason than just saying the word "parity".

http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Com ... rporations So I just found this lovely little page, which isn't linked anywhere. Subsequently I've added little appends to both the NT page and Syndicate page that both link this page (and cross-reference their own pages). "The Syndicate is a terrorist group as defined under Space Law. They have branches in most forms of operations, and consist mainly of either one-time workers or those in debt to the Syndicate. The current 'head' of the Syndicate is not known, but intelligence has suggested that the group is run by a select group of 'boardroom executives', in a way a regular company may be. It often receives funding from corporations that are in direct competition with NanoTrasen." And.. "Despite it's stranglehold in the technological sector there are many companies still in competition with NanoTrasen, such as the well-known Syndicate and many smaller corporations specializing in a variety of consumer products." I'm also deliberating on whether or not to add in some extra detail on the competing corporations, namely by drawing up a few other names from the pool of possible Nuke-Ops titles. Thoughts?

Right, this is off-topic and will probably result in a thread lock but I'm going to address this here and now, because it's starting to get on my nerves. Asking for a solid reason for "parity" when we're opensource is not coder bashing. Taking an opposing stance is not bashing. As I'm aware and have sunk time into TG, TG's version of LINDA is already different than ours so we don't have parity in the first place. I get that you hate my guts as evidenced by your many, many posts that attempt to deride me, but you can stop. I have no issues with you despite how often we carry opposing opinions, so you can stop making snide remarks as I have made absolutely none toward you. The only thing I have remotely done to you is make a comment about "bringing my frownface brigade" to one of your suggestions as you specifically goaded to me (with the words frownface brigade no less) to do so. What's unbecoming is your false characterizations of me and spite towards me based on solely on the fact that we don't typically agree with one another when I have done absolutely nothing to you. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I somehow hate this server, hate the coders, and all the administration despite the fact that I'm a fairly regular donator - something I haven't even shared or mentioned to anyone up until this point, but am forced to do so in part to your implications that I somehow despise Paradise and am here to simply disagree with everything everyone has ever said, ever. I have also done no small amount of work on the server's wiki, for instance I wrote almost the entirety of the medical guide, the cloning guide, and have provided plenty of formatting, suggestions and proof-reads on the wiki, and am presently working on Vulp Lore with Flattest. My point here is that you need to stop making assumptions about what I'm doing, and why I'm doing it - because you're dead wrong. I like Fox. I make stupid jokes with Fox in OOC on the server and with ahelps, I play on the server with Fox. Does he work hard? Yes. This does not mean I have to agree with him, his methodology, or his implementation of things. We have plenty of competent maintainers and coders, and people (as evidenced by Jey) who are more than willing to work on atmospherics. Opensource is not one-sided, and I fail to see why improvements can't be discussed/talked about/implemented simply because another server is doing something else. This is on the same level as chemistry not being able to be modified whatsoever/names being unable to be changed because "we might offend Goon" (despite the fact that the names of chems, such as Salbutamol are ACTUAL names of real-word medication that relate to their in-game purpose). I believe in the case of Goon we were legitimately afraid that Goon might sue us or something of that nature should we dare modify goonchem. We can't even change the name of Oculine (which was combined with Audioline) to something like Sensoline because "parity". Parity allows for another server to have what more or less amounts to a stranglehold on our own server. We aren't TG or Goon, and therefore I really don't understand the need to never change anything about LINDA whatsoever simply to be on the same level as TG. This is absolutely antithetical to what opensource is, and what it means. If we're truly opensource, we should be able to implement changes to any aspect of our codebase without fear of repercussion to find the best solutions that offer the most in terms of efficiency and functionality, and then if another server (such as TG which also uses LINDA) sees that, they can co-opt that idea into their server. Open source is not "I will use this code but never modify it whatsoever because it comes from TG". That may as well be closed source at that point irrespective of whether or not you can readily see the code, as you're not capable of doing anything with it. Code is not some mythical beast, it's a bunch of lines on a screen that work in tandem with other lines. Parts of it can be changed and co-opted without bringing the roof down. All anyone has wanted out of this thread is a set of standard and reasonable guidelines for working on the codebase, which the maintainers are largely refusing to provide or allow for because of "parity." They didn't like Jey's initial code. Great, that's fine. What is not fine is then refusing to elaborate further, or provide any guidelines or reasonable expectations on what is required for modifications to the codebase. What is not fine is calling yourself opensource, and then acting like you're closedsource because of "parity".

As reception has been fairly positive and any and all qualms so far has been addressed, as well as the fact that Regens (the wiki master) has looked over this thread I imagine there's absolutely no issues with anyone if I push this live?

I'm just going to put this in here. Parity for the sake of parity is stupid. Parity is sometimes not even a good thing. We're different servers, and as LINDA is open source one should be free to work on it, make tweaks and modifications and further enhance it without ever encountering the "you can't do this because we want to maintain parity" argument. If parity means the halting of progress and any and all implementations of cost-savings or functionality, I'm against parity. We're not TG, so why do we ever even remotely want parity with TG? The idea behind open source is that you build up on the ideas of a collective group of existing datum, not halt progress entirely for the sake of homogeneity - which isn't even relevant since TG is a different server that operates in a VERY different way. Unless we're somehow bound by an agreement with TG that we can't modify LINDA (which makes me wonder why it was ever implemented, as we're no longer opensource then and another server has control over our content), parity should never be brought up. I have never understood why you constantly bring up the parity argument, Fox, and I would love an explanation because I see a thousand negatives and no realistic advantage - as we're opensource we can incorporate any advancements made by TG whilst providing our own (not parity), rather than just waiting on TG to do things whilst we twiddle our thumbs. (parity)

omg favouritism u promote teh admunz!!!!!12!*#@! omgomgom- But really, looks good so far aside from you being labeled Game Admin and not Master Buttface. ♥ Changes to the coritical borer page are especially nice.

A lot of things cease to function, too, on unsimulated. Blood, vomit, overlays, some effects, etc. A big one: simple animals out and out die. Huh! I'll keep that in mind when Xenobio unleashes hell. Is there a way to hook asteroid turf into being unsimulated without losing the functionality of overlays or simple mobs? As for the base argument, when you build tiles to make a pressurized base you're creating simulated turf.

Should illegal implants be hidden from body scanners?
Shadeykins replied to Crazylemon's topic in Suggestions
I'll take a pass. Basically this provides a method to hide something from security, indefinitely, forever. It also encourages Mary Sue behaviour because now everyone and their mother will learn chest surgery just for the sake of implant checking rather than leaving that to the actual surgeons. How many times is medical absolutely swarmed, anyways? Chances are that if security wants to check for an implant, medical is busy and they'll instead toss you on a roller bed and perform ghetto surgery on you just to find out - now the potential antag (or not) can deal with infections, injuries, probably broken bones (Ghetto is awful), and their implant is gone anyways all because security "had to check". This increases the work that both security and medical have to do, whilst addressing an issue that is simply non-existent for antags in the first place. If you, as an antag are being dragged to medical to check for implants it is because you have let slip that you have them. I have never, ever, EVER seen anyone taken to medical for an implant check, save for cortical stacks (which were removed), loyalty implants (when a secHUD is not available) and VERY OBVIOUS CASES where a mindslave is screaming about their master after just attacking 5 security officers in a mech. I am however in favour of implants being cleanly labelled rather than just "Unknown body". Make all the known implants have neat little labels, and all the illegal ones show up as unknown. Not only does this solve the issue with bugs and not storing implants in organs, it does not have any knock-on effects whatsoever when compared against the existing system. -
I approve, it makes slimes at least 20% lewder.

Changed it, to more imply that the groups weren't isolationist as much as a lack of proper telecommunications makes it exceedingly difficult to initially organize a planetary government and that industrialization was already present to some degree. Vulpkanin history is largely unknown to outsiders as it is generally passed down generation to generation orally rather than in the form of recorded documents, recorded history did not become the gold standard until the formation of the central unifying body known as The Assembly. What is considered by many Vulpkanin scholars to be the beginning of the species' modern history is the creation of The Assembly, a political body designed to unify the entirety of Altam under one flag. Taking place in 2350, The Assembly was a direct result of the civilization’s heterarchical mentality and it's innate desire to strive for cooperation emboldened by recent discoveries in telecommunications. The formation of The Assembly resulted in quick technological advancement and heavy industrialization as many of the once disconnected groups of Vulpkanin pooled their resources and industry together. This ultimately lead to the discovery of new propulsion systems that allowed for swift and cheap interplanetary travel, and subsequently colonization of other worlds at the dawn of the twenty fifth century. I also added in a bit that suggests that Altam's daughter worlds may not enjoy strong trade relations because they desired so, but more because they are forced to do so. Altam still enjoys strong trade and healthy relations with both Kelune and Dalstadt due to their reliance on Altam's heavy industry I also did some more formatting and caught a few mistakes. Also, regens is joking people. Everyone knows he's the lewdest.

Basically what Alex is getting at is the completion of objectives counts towards a total score for all antagonists, and they're ranked in a leaderboards-type fashion. At least that's what I think he's getting at.

From my original post. Yes it is possible. BUT The real bottleneck is, are we capable? Again coders do this as a hobby, this is nowhere a job or obligation to them. This might be a huge project that nobody is willing to commit to. I'm pretty sure what Jey wrote extends the reach of LINDA with no impact on latency and actually reduces bottlenecks, but it was outright denied by the maintainers. This is not about people being unwilling/lacking the time to write atmospherics code,. The primary issue here is that the proposed PR is "not up to standards" but no standards are being provided. People can't work on atmospherics if their contributions to it won't even be humoured/tested. Jey wants to address inefficiencies in LINDA and add functionality to it, but is being declined and then provided with no guidelines to work with. That's pretty much what I'm getting out of this.

Surprised so many people voted engineering, I'd rather see SoP on science first personally as that's a department that typically abuses a lot of their power/authority/things they are provided with whereas engineering is generally speaking pretty laid back. Also because it includes genetics.
