KingPhilip's problems with the Wiki.

RCD is no longer a theft target? Amen. I'll update it - the page is more or less geared toward theft targets. -
KingPhilip's problems with the Wiki.

The wiki is a community project. If you see an issue, feel free to report it or fix it yourself. You needn't ask permission. The only general exceptions to this are Space Law/Lore/SoP. -
KingPhilip's problems with the Wiki.
Shadeykins replied to KingPhilipIII's topic in Wiki Development
Map issues will take a bit to resolve, because I literally have to stitch those together piece by piece and crop out unnecessary information. Bad redirect to genetics maintenance is just that, a bad redirect. I'll fix that with the map changes. Revenent page is already marked for changes. Changeling I'll take a look at tomorrow. Abductor page needs work, though I'm unsure if the suggested changes are relevant - it can be assumed that your own work isn't going to instakill you. Feel free to keep reporting changes here. You can also use the wiki-dev channel on the Discord too if you like. -
Echoing this. You don't even need the mechanical disability to be mute. Rather than coming up with contrived reasons for why mutadone doesn't work, you could just use refrain from ever using the say command based on the premise that your character has anarthia or aphonia (or even aphasia) - a real neurological or physical impediment preventing speech. Disabilities don't enable roleplay in any way, shape, or form - they're negative mechanisms to provide challenge to a player or a "mechanical prohibition" on a certain thing. Having them as options is just some mechanical flavour as part of a system that isn't really necessary to shape roleplay to begin with. IE: If I want to roleplay a blind character, or a deaf character, or a mute character, a character with epilepsy, or a character with tourettes, I do not need to take any of the genetic disabilities. All of these things can be easily accounted for via use of the say and me commands. The genetic disabilities only exist as counterweights to the genetic system. Raymond Carver didn't need to institute a series of opt-in, opt-out mechanics with a fully realized disability system in order to write one of the most compelling and convincing blind men in a short story. He only needed a medium with which to write, and an audience to read and convey his ideas to.

Given the bleeding and organ mechanics in this game, if you've crit someone you've broken bones, damaged organs, and caused the person to bleed. You've also left them in a state where they're immobile, may fall over (due to pain crit), and then asphyxiate (due to oxygen damage). Even if they don't, they have a high likelihood of bleeding out before they get assistance, or bleeding out while getting assistance. They then have to spend the next 10-15 minutes waiting for, and then getting surgery in most instances. I have to agree with Trubus in this scenario, we don't go around lynching people for being dicks or for "harming" people. If we're going by "real life", if someone runs up and swipes your ID card, the majority of people who chase after that person are going to attempt to subdue them (or not even chase them and just report it). They're not going to beat the ever-living snot out of them, break all their ribs, fracture their skull, and then walk off and leave them in a bloody pool to die. That's called second degree murder. In the context of the game, under Space Law it would be manslaughter, attempted murder, or aggravated assault. Non-antagonists have no business committing any of these unless it's an extreme case of self-defense or it's against a valid antagonist. Allowing for civilians to crit people "just because" will just turn the game into little more than a poorly mediated deathmatch.

Keep it on topic, please. If you need to discuss a ban appeal/ban, the ban appeal subforum/admin complaints subforum is the place to do that.
-
Ignoring and refusing to comply with the direct orders of your departmental head when they're completely reasonable merits firing you. That doesn't mean it translates to a job ban.

I don't think they should have EVA. I DO think they should have an EVA suit/hardsuit however.

Poll: Would you like the abilty to auto decline cloning
Shadeykins replied to WingedYordle's topic in Suggestions
They're anonymous only to users. Admins+ can always see who voted what on a poll. -
Congratulations to the latest batch of people to receive wiki contributor status: * Jovaniph * Chopchop1614 * Birdtalon * Xslayer300 * Kurgis/Teyren * Tzo (Kyet)

As a disability it could make sense, but in the interim (or if it doesn't go through) there are those other options. Should be relatively easy to make into a disability as well since we already have flags for uncloneable.
-
Exit your body when someone attempts to put you in a cloning scanner, then.
-
If you don't want to be cloned, stay out of your body or enable antagHUD.

Regarding Changelings Transformation Sting
Shadeykins replied to Kitchi Ikamura's topic in Suggestions
If you want an easy nerf to the sting, make it delete the genome you've stung the person with. You stinging people comes at the cost of a loss of your possible identities from earlier DNA extraction stings. This makes its use call for some thinking, because it's now a tactical trade-off. This already has a balancing feature as well wherein a changeling needs to transform in order to DNA extract more than four-five people, so they can't go around recklessly lol-stinging people with no detriment. -
Former, not the latter.

This is a suggestion for an admin tool/general mechanic. We have subtlemessage, yet we lack an ambient message. The command would function similar to a regular say message in terms of range, but it would lack a speaker and would be solely for the purposes of noting something ambient or atmospheric. It would print out like so (obviously the actual input would vary) **A banging, sputtering sound emanates from the nearby vents.** This would effectively allow administrators to ply their ideas beyond the scope of individual and highly specialized (subtle message being an inner voice) messages, allowing them to effectively emote on behalf of the environment or atmosphere of an area either as part of an event or simply to set the mood. This system could also be mechanically incorporated into certain things, such as C4. The moment C4 detonates it could also have an associated emote for added effect such as... **The wall abruptly blows inwards, sending debris and scrap metal through the air.** You could also tie it into things for xenomorphs, IE: when they emerge from vents, when terror spiders drain corpses, when clones get ejected from cloning pods. It's more or less a tool to help establish atmosphere and the believably of the environment. I also think it would help raise the bar for roleplay, if only to provide some environmental precedent/incentive. Discuss.

I wouldn't mind seeing explicit permission being granted for non-lethal stuff, IE: the hardsuits you often get.

Borers kind of do this already. We for sure have the booting out of the mind on conversion code, because that's how antag bans function for conversion antags. (IE: if you're antag banned and you get thralled or culted, a ghost gets put in your body).

Moving forward it has been decided that we will be more proactive in the awarding of the "Wiki Contributor" tag both on the forum and Discord in recognition of the tremendous support given by wiki editors for the Paradise Community Wiki Project. The criteria are pretty straightforward: * You must have at least 20 valid wiki commits that are not considered minor edits (Correcting grammar of one word, etc) across at least five pages (not including file uploads). * Alternatively (if you are a more holistic editor), a total contribution character difference of 3,000 across five edits. * You must be a currently active contributor to the wiki, and your contributions should be within the past six months (exceptions will be made for anyone who was a member of the original Wiki team). The criteria listed are a bare minimum. It's always encouraged that users endeavor to continue editing articles for the betterment of the community even after receiving the tags. While I will personally make an effort to proactively check for new user contributions, if you have met the contribution threshold please ping either a Wiki Curator or Regen a discord message in the wiki-development channel. Wiki Contributors will be awarded access to the private Wiki Curator channel on the Paradise Discord where they can ask for assistance with formatting, help with MediaWiki elements, speak with wiki editors directly in a more controlled setting, or simply to communicate outstanding issues/recommendations with/for articles on the Wiki itself. Going forward, we still have every intention of making use of the public Wiki-Development channel; the Wiki-Curator channel simply serves as a more focused channel for wiki development. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With that out of the way, I would like to take a moment to address our community at large. As an open-source community project we (the Paradise community) value the time and effort put in by individuals into our wiki. While there is still a lot of work to do--and always more work to be done thanks to the generous contributions of our coders--we are constantly striving to make the wiki an accurate, pertinent, and concise resource to assist our players as well as the broader SS13 community. We heartily encourage anyone who has a keen interest in wiki-editing to involve themselves in this community project; our wiki deserves the same care and attention to detail given to it that so many players have given to this server. While we owe the initial foundation of our wiki to the generosity of Baystation12, our ultimate goal is to strive to be a novel, informative, and original repository for the server and the SS13 community at large. We would be absolutely nowhere without the generous contributions of both our community and the SS13 community to this project, and as such I would like to personally thank some of our largest contributors to the wiki project since its inception. While many of the people are no longer members of our community, they deserve our thanks all the same. * @Crazypilot * @Artorp * @Tigercat2000 * @Froststahr * @Regen * @Jovaniph * @Kuroneko1337 * @Flattestguitar * @Monster860 * @Paranoid Sofa * @W3bster * @Fox McCloud * @Keroman * @Tyler * @Nahiyan8 * @Spacemanspark * @Block1 * @Scrubmcnoob * @Snailmail * @Sphere * @Verdeae * @Tullybburnalot * @Diabloshadow * @Necaladun * @Teyren (Kurgis) * @Twinmold * @Professor Cupcake * @Tinfoiltophat * @Novacro * @Grey * @Fathuran * @Liran424 * @Azywng * @Orelbon * @Adamkad1 * @Someguy9283 * @Jamania * @Theflagbearer * @Davetheheadcrab * @Mark9013100 * @Badkarm83 * @Owenowen101 * @Qinetix * @LightFire53 * @Streaky Haddock * @Robotonic * @CrazyLemon * @SigholtStarsong * @Miraneitan * @anibalviana * @Coldflame * @Cotux * @Vesocia * @Chopchop1614 And so many others who put in their time to work on this community project. While the depth and extent of your contributions to our community has often gone unnoticed beyond the lines in a user contributions page, the positive impact you've had on the community through your volunteering hasn't. To all of you, and so many others, who have worked tirelessly on the behalf of both this community and the SS13 community at large, thank you.

I would much rather see that all uplinks spawn in their respective stations and remain locked in those stations until distribution happens. This would ensure the same goal, with the team leader being able to draft a plan prior to distribution. It would also cut down on the inevitable five minutes of screaming that generally involves trying to get all four operatives to put their uplinks in at the same time.

Attached files contain karma data mapped against various attributes (karma vs punches thrown, and karma vs time in medbay) for one week (first week of March to be precise). Karma attribution can be used as a rough indicator for playtime in this scenario, since this grouping includes ckeys who were active for as little as thirty seconds (and are mapped as 0 karma received). Graphs provided by Flattest. You will note that some of the more 'active' ckeys (represented by points) received in excess of 20 karma in a week of play. We'll average to ten, for the sake of it. 10 karma/week is 1.4 karma on average per day. Your possible total expenditure on karma (for all unlocks) is 460 karma points. In the course of active play (receiving our rounded down ten karma in a week) you will, in a mere 328 days, run out of things to purchase in the karma shop in its entirety. This is assuming you're even interested in buying everything to begin with. If you are one of those gaining twenty karma (not unheard of) during active play, you will accrue this in half the time (164 days) which is less than six months. The high-earners for karma on the server (which I presume are the people who are relatively well-known or engaging) can unlock Plasmaman in as little as 5 weeks. I would say that's a pretty quick accruement of karma, personally - but the idea of how quick "quickly" is, is a rather subjective thing in the first place.
