Biography:
Viktor was born to Pyotr and Anna Asimov on January 22nd, 2532 in the State Clinical Hospital of Novomirsk, located on Belastrav. During his childhood, he was a model Soviet child and was fascinated by the IPCs who surrounded him in abundance on Belastrav. This fascination was further intensified by the ancient Solar science fiction stories his parents would read to him as bedtime stories. He fell in love with the works of notable ancient authors like Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, H.G. Wells, and Arthur C. Clarke. He was driven to study machines and robotics at the Soviet State Institute for Robotics and Technical Cybernetics on Belastrav, where he graduated with high honors. After obtaining his Bachelors of Science in Robotics, he left Belastrav to study for his Masters at the New Canaan Institute of Technology in 2554.
Viktor remained on New Canaan for four years after obtaining his Masters, where he primarily worked as a Mechatronic Engineer Assistant under the synthetics who dwell on New Canaan, though this position was far less glamorous and fulfilling than Viktor would have hoped. It wasn't what he had imagined at all from the stories he read or the notable roboticists he had heard about who pushed boundaries and broke new ground in the field. It seemed to him that the synthetics of New Canaan were subtly discriminating against him, whether due to his USSP background or simply the fact that he was an organic lifeform, he wasn't sure. Though all the same they treated him as an incompetent, if well-meaning, maintenance assistant moreso than a capable colleague. He fell into a quiet despair over this, and turned to alcoholism to quell the turmoil brewing inside of him, which only worsened his image in the eyes of his synthetic counterparts.
During a particularly nasty binge, he attempted to take his life by ingesting large quantities of Synthanol, and left instructions for his colleagues to remove his brain during the autopsy and convert him into a cyborg so that they might finally see him for the bright mind that he is. Despite his wishes, the synthetics who worked with him took a more pragmatic approach to this act, and instead replaced his failing liver with a cybernetic one. Once he was revived, mostly as practice for the Mediborgs on New Canaan, he was sent back to work with a cold indifference. This caused Viktor to finally snap, and a day later he simply left New Canaan without a word to anyone. His colleagues didn't notice his disappearance for days. By the time they had realized his absence, a replacement was already assigned. He wandered for six years among the Independent colonies where they would not mind that he was former-USSP, though his work during this time was largely the same as on New Canaan. With few opportunities for new discoveries in the field of Robotics among the Independent planets and stations, he was once again relegated to maintaining aging and outdated IPCs, cyborgs, and various other synthetic lifeforms. This stint left him bitter and resentful towards the circumstances life had led him through, and he was pining for another new opportunity to fulfill his potential.
During another binge, he met a representative for Nanotrasen in 2567 through a chance encounter at a hole-in-the-wall dive bar. The representative saw his potential and his drive to truly build upon his knowledge and skills, despite his haggard appearance and obvious bitter attitude towards his line of work. In an opportunistic move disguised as a sympathetic gesture, the NT rep offered him a position as a Roboticist on the various research stations in the Epsilon-Eridani sector. With a heavy sigh, he reluctantly agreed, expecting more boring maintenance work that he had become so accustomed to. Viktor had been pleasantly surprised by the cutting-edge technology of Nanotrasen's research stations, a much-needed change of pace from the lackluster stations of Independent systems or the Synthetic-dominated facilities of New Canaan. For the first time since he was a child, he was excited about this opportunity to finally do some good work for the field of Robotics as a whole.
