I originally thought this thread was referring to characters sneezing or coughing. It sounds like a cool idea. I can imagine traitors grabbing people in the maintenance corridors and silencing them. We'll have to see how easy it is to implement before we can put it in though. Changing how attacking works is likely to be complicated. Regards, M Kenner.

There's a lot of love for 40k around here, as a dedicated Imperial Guard player I'm always happy to see the arrival of Spess Marines. Can't guarantee that something requiring extra sprites will be able to be included anytime soon unless someone feels like making the sprites. Likewise we may not be able to fit things from 40k lore into SS13 cannon well enough to integrate it into the game. Also it is tech-heresy to suggest adding new inventions. Your thought-crime has been reported to the inquisition and your execution will no doubt be soon heretek. Regards, M Kenner.

Never trust people named Michael who run SS13 servers. They're a bad lot and always have terrible policies. Nice to see someone else from Best RP, it's where I started playing (back in the Abby Riley days). Regards, Michael K.

Hey there, Welcome. I've seen you around here and there, mostly on OOC chat. Nice to have you on the forums as well. Regards, M Kenner

That's mostly correct. Our goals include the server being enjoyable for our playerbase, however it must do so while fitting within the standards that we have decided upon as part of our offering. For example even if 90% of our players wanted this server to become an Ultima Online shard instead of a SS13 byond server, we wouldn't do it because we built this server to play SS13. We might consider such a suggestion, but we won't do it simply out of a democratic process. Neca and I built this server to provide the kind of environment that we wanted. Before the server was donated to us, I paid for it myself out of my own bank-account. This server isn't democratic or public property. However we value immensely the time people have taken in building this community, the bonds they have formed to it and one another, the enjoyment that comes from interaction with the other players and the value that comes from listening to people's suggestions. I hope that we never take our playerbase for granted, nor close our ears to their suggestions and discussions. I agree 100% with this. I do agree that our rules need to be shown in advance and then enforced fairly, without personal favour or emotion influencing these decisions. For the most part I think this is something that we succeed at, although I will admit that there have been times when I have seen us fall a little short of this standard. I can't promise that we will always behave as paragons on virtue, rationality and justice. We're all human here, we all make mistakes and ultimately we're all just volunteers. What I can guarantee is that we do care about this and do want to do the best that we can. We are looking into ways of ensuring that these mistakes occur less frequently or ideally can be stopped completely.

Thankyou for posting this thread. It's an interesting discussion. Ultimately I'm not sure whether it's serious or not since everything else I've seen NTXub post is trolling, but I think it is worth discussing. The only reason I hadn't responded to this earlier is that I hadn't known the thread was here since I don't read the suggestions forum very commonly myself (yes I know I should, but I rarely get involved in implementing these things so I usually leave it to the others. Outside of the ban appeals, I'm the least active admin). There are too many threads for me to individually quote each person and respond, so I'll write a general response. Feel free to question me further though as I'll keep an eye on this thread. Apologies if this post is a little rambling as I'm covering responses to a lot of posts as the thoughts occur to me. Honestly, I had never really considered ableist language and whether it might offend people within the game. This is partly because I haven't checked my own privilege on this issue, being healthy and well myself. It's not something I tend to consider frequently or part of my normal world-view. If that's resulted in me not showing empathy towards people on the server affected with these issues or allowing harassment to occur, then I do genuinely apologize for this. That's the result of thoughtlessness and not any deliberate desire to set people with disabilities aside from anyone else or make them feel unwelcome. I have, from time to time, stepped in and taken a role in events where I've seen people take the in-game disabilities, to mock or parody these issues. Thankfully it's never needed to go past a simple request for them to stop via admin-help. The other reason though that I've never taken action on this is that no one has ever reported this occurring or brought it to my attention. I would like to invite anyone who feels that our policy towards ableist terms needs to change to let us know. Feel free to contact me privately if you feel uncomfortable addressing it in public, because I would like to know how everyone feels on this issue. Conversely I have had contact from players regarding our anti-homophobic language policy who are very glad for our policy and appreciate our concern. The partial disparity between these two issues does come down, in part, to the amount it has been requested. In regards to terms such as 'bad' deriving from Baedel or similar terms, although I am passionate about linguistics as a hobby, I don't think it's worth enforcing laws regarding terms that aren't offensive to anyone without a study of historical linguistics. If I saw someone deliberately drawing upon that background of the word to insult someone though then I would A) be surprised and B) take action. In regards to people with offensive Ckeys, it's honestly something that we haven't discussed yet as administration staff and have not yet drawn up a complete policy. It's a tricky issue because 90% of the time, a person's CKey is invisible to non-admins. However it does also show up when they're active on OOC chat. The elephant in the room of CastrateBronies' case, was admittedly a situation were a ban occurred in a grey area without any firm server policy and the appeal was decided before I got involved in the discussion. Although it's too late to do much about those events now, it's something we'll have to look into how we're handling for future cases and arrive at a consensus. In my personal experience, the word crazy usually has little in common with actual DSMIV conditions and I haven't known any of my friends with mental illnesses to find it objectionable. However I am happy to reconsider if this is causing issues. Regards, M Kenner - Game Master

Although there are people who know a lot more about medicine than I do, I can at least help cover the basics for a new doctor. Before the first patient So you've just started the round and there's no one needing treatment yet. Take advantage of this time, it's only going to be a few minutes before people come running in. Cryogenics set up: On this server you don't need to connect the oxygen tanks to the cryotanks with a wrench, some other places you do. Make sure though that you set the freezers running, and drop the target temperature as low as it will go (usually this is around 70 degrees Kelvin, so really really cold). You should also add in the beaker of Cryoxadone because without the healing drugs it's just a very small cold prison cell. The chemist might make some more advanced mixes for you, but you can always take the beakers out later to top them up. Surgery set up: The operating theatre is already set to go, but you might not be. If you're ever planning on performing surgery make sure that you have some sterile gloves and mask. Either wear them or carry them with you. Equipping yourself: As mentioned above you'll want to have sterile gloves and mask if you're doing surgery. Wear a medical HUD, these glasses give you the ability to instantly triage patients which is essential to a speedy and effective medbay. It's also a good idea to carry some anti-toxin around with you, since it's the one drug the sleepers can't provide. You can get a bottle of anti-toxin and a syringe from the nanomed vendor. Your patient comes into medbay. Your HUD is going to give you a lot of information immediately. Use this to perform triage and judge which patients to help first. You want to treat patients in this order. 1) People who are critically injured and about to die. 2) People who are seriously injured and could get worse. 3) People who are already dead. 4) Whiners, complainers and hypocondriacs. Once you've picked the patient to treat you can start the individual care. Scan them with your health analyzer and you'll get a lot more detailed information about their current condition. Go down the following list in order until the patient is cured. He's dead Jim: If the patient is dead, get them to genetics so that the geneticist can groan with frustration, complain that they've almost discovered super-powers and ignore you completely. Hopefully they will eventually clone the patient, but that's out of your hands. In an emergency you can go the alternative treatment and regrow them in hydroponics with a replicator pod. Meat Popsicles: If a patient has over 75 damage of any single type, then rush them to cryogenics. Make sure you remove any insulated gear like hardsuits. If it stops their body from cooling down then cryogenics won't work. Put them in one of the tanks and switch it on. The tank will start to glow green and you'll see them floating in the tank. By clicking on the tank you can see a display of their current condition, you should see their health begin to climb until it reaches 100. At that point you can take them out of the machine, don't forget them and leave them in there unless you want to listen to them whining indefinitely on out of character chat. Sleepers and you: If a patient doesn't have enough damage to put them in cryo and it's not toxic damage then place them into the sleeper and inject the appropriate drug. Brute Damage: Bicarridine. Burn Damage: Dermaline. Suffocation Damage: Dexalin. You don't need to leave them sitting in the sleeper. Once you've injected the drugs, it'll start curing them over time. You can take them out of the sleeper and give the drugs time to work. Antitoxin: If a patient only has toxic damage, don't worry about the sleepers since they can't help. Instead give them some anti-toxin manually either as a pill or an injection. With extremely large amounts of toxic damage, cryo can be a good option. A chemist or CMO can scan them with a reagent scanner to determine what they've been poisoned with. Long-term problems: After stabilizing the patient with the above procedures, you'll need to check for anything that can cause long-term problems. Your health analyzer should show if they have any internal damage or viral pathogens. To determine the exact nature of the problem, put them in the body scanner. Look for damage to internal organs, genetic damage or viral pathogens. Genetic Damage: Your chemist can brew up some Ryetalyn which will cure any genetic injuries, but if they're busy making grenades then you can just put them in the cryo-tank instead. You'll need to do this for patients who have been cloned or if they've been attacked by slimes. Cut them up like a slice of monkey If the patient has brute damage to their internal organs, don't try to heal them with bicarridine, that only works on external injuries. Get them to surgery. This guide doesn't cover surgery, you'll have to check the wiki for instructions, but make sure that you wash your hands and aren't still dragging the patient. For broken bones make sure that any external brute damage is cured before you begin surgery otherwise the bone will not heal and it will just rebreak. It's the plague: If they have a viral pathogen, consult your virologist. They're cured: Once the patient has no damage, broken bones, bruised organs, viruses, genetic damage or other such problems they're cured. Let them get out of medbay and back to doing their job before the station blows up.

What if we made a new subtitle for engineer called "Construction worker"?

Hi there, I'll be your other host for Paradise Station. I'm a 29 year old tech support drone, who likes playing SS13 to unwind. I'm Necaladun's next door neighbour and will be co-hosting the server with him. Looking forward to coming up with some ideas and concepts for the server. I've played pen and paper role-playing games since I was a kid. I enjoy fantasy and science fiction, both reading and writing. I think that Byond and SS13 has a great potential to create ongoing stories, I'm hoping to find ways to develop that potential further and find new uses for the existing game elements. I like to play peaceful and helpful roles on the station, you generally won't see me robusting much or playing antagonists but I might occasionally just to keep people guessing. My skills in SS13 are basically focused around engineering, chemistry, medicine and surgery. Don't ask me how to make grenades, blow things up or be a changeling because I won't know the answers. I'd like to learn virology, but haven't had a proper chance yet. Keen to give it a try if anyone wants to show me the ropes. I play multiple roles and sometimes just create new characters, but I have a few recurring PCs. Kiana Ender: An NT loyalist who usually works in command and bureaucracy, you'll see her around as a HoP most commonly though she's ocassionally found working directly for NT as a representative or organizing an Emergency Response Team. Nicholas Bennet: A doctor skilled in many elements of medicine. He sometimes manages to be CMO, but his lack of politics and ambition might leave him as just a doctor, surgeon or chemist. Nathan Bennet: An engineer and Nicholas' older brother. He'll often be a maintenance engineer or an atmospherics technician. Although better at NT politics than the more innocent Nicholas, his preference for hands-on work and a blunt streak often keeps him out of command as well. Eli Al'taj: A Tajaaran hippy who enjoys the simple things in life. You might see him around botany or in the kitchen doing his best to keep the crew happy and fed. Grandpa Mcmullen: This character was entirely inspired by a random name Byond chose for me. He's the oldest assistant in Nanotrasen who has learned every trick in the book to avoid ever doing work or being given responsibility. No one is quite certain whether he's actually senile or just enjoys mis-remembering history in his meandering rambling stories. Look forward to seeing you on the NSS Cyberiad.
