Remove the Die a Glorious Death objective.

I think it should be removed. It's not a "Die a Glorious Death" objective. It's a "Die a death" objective. I could understand if this objective was saved for times admins were online and observing and they could check the greentext box themselves, traitors with the objective being asked to ahelp before going on their death jihad. But that is too little RP bonus for too much admin intervention, so that will never happen. NTSAM's notion of it being a "take a break" objective is valid, though, and it certainly reframes the objective from being a "useless" one to being an "pretty annoying" one. Not being fully redeemed to me, I think that, without an RP foundation, Die a Glorious Death should be nixed. -

Thanks much for the fix. Already there has been changes to the airlocks allowing use of the conveyors again, with toggleable blast doors now to ensure no pressure losses during down periods. The shuttle is alo pressurized and heated now. Those are huge fixes in and of themselves. -

So I started this during a quiet part of my last shift seeking to document the problems with the updates to the supply ordering console, the supply shuttle, and other adjustments. I figured it would eventually get here but figured I'd send an IC fax to the admins online at the time should I be able to get one of the heads to actually send it. I never was able to finish, a blob came aboard and I had to drop writing it. Instead of revising it for an OOC forum, I figured I'd finish the fax IC and put it here for your enjoyment and edification. tl;dr: Give me back my old supply ordering console and please, for the love of god, fix the supply shuttle! --------------------------- [logo] From: Jack Edwardson Quartermaster Nanotransen Supply Division Assignment: NSS Cyberiad, Alva Ingus, Commanding To: New Products Team Logistics Development Group Nanotrasen Supply Division Central Command, Nanotrasen RE: Feedback regarding upgrades recently installed on NSS Cyberiad Dear New Products Team, As a member of the Supply Division, I often find myself forgotten as other teams and projects get people and resources from superiors and Central Command. That is why it brightened my day to learn that our team here on the NSS Cyberiad received upgrades to many of our standard-issue electronics and mining equipment. I encourage Central Command to continue refining the elements of the supply infrastructure throughout Nanotrasen, and am honored that the Cyberiad was chosen as a trial market for these upgrades. I must admit, however, that many of the planned upgrades have added unintentional problems that did not exist prior to the upgrades. I will attempt to outline the pros and cons to this slate of upgrades as I have noticed during my current shift, in following: - Upgrades to mining satchels and cargo box allowing bluespace crystals is an incredible bonus to miners with limited carrying capacity. Great work on these upgrades. If it is at all possible to have the ore redemption machine actually pick up the crystals upon dumping the crate, that would save a bit of time. I noticed my miner left his crystals having forgotten they were among the load of ore that was being processed. - The new software for supply ordering is cumbersome and is an overall efficiency loss for users. Here are my thoughts on the new UI: 1. The only pro to this new system is the messaging from Central Command confirming supply point gains from crates and stamped manifests. It seems that manifests may have to be sent on the returning shuttle from the order they were received to get any credit, however. I sent a number of manifests received before I reported as quartermaster this shift upon the shuttle docked when I arrived and only received credit for one manifest. This is problematic and if a fix could be applied it would be helpful. 2. You cannot order multiples of the same crate. This is HIGHLY problematic. During my shift, a level 5 biohazard came aboard this station and I had to order 7 laser crates one at a time, scrolling through 4 screens apiece to do so. 28 screens versus 2 makes this adjustment highly unfavorable and perhaps could cost lives in an emergency. 3. Pending requests for approval do not display on the screen as they once did, meaning if an order is placed when a cargo technician is not around, and the paperwork is shoved aside or misplaced, that order could be forgotten until the next order is approved. 4. Crate contents are not available on this UI that I can see. Central Command docked a supply point bonus due to an incorrect count of a received crate. If we are unaware of the contents of a crate, how are we to confirm accuracy in this regard? -The new shuttle system. The updated shuttle, issued to mining and the cargo bay, have two new features, neither desireable to cargo. The first is that they are now sent cold, airless, and depressurized. I had to request access to EVA to ensure I didn’t die unloading the supply shuttle. The second is that the airlock adjustments, made stationwide, have a particular problem with the supply shuttle – it breaks the use of the conveyor belts, making unloading an ordeal it should not be. Please make fixes to these adjustments whenever possible. That is the extent of my observations this shift. I appreciate the fact that Nanotrasen seeks continuous improvement in our supply chain management systems. I hope Central Command continues to refine these upgrades to ensure they meet new efficiency levels than past systems. Actually, I had thought of exactly this myself. And it doesn't even need to be the shoes. The clumsy gene. It could happen barefoot. I endorse this. I would say though that this would be funnier if there was only a chance of flopping.

While the reasoning holds merit (clumsy gene, clown shoes are big and seem easy to trip on), I guarantee the change would be reverted if it is ever made. What happens when there's nuke ops or xenos or ANYTHING that a clown needs to run from, they fall and easily get robusted. Imagine if a clown was being ridiculously robust against nuke ops, then, right as they are about to demolish the last of them, with all the ghosts watching with anticipation and smiles on their faces, and suddenly trips on something giving the nuke op the opportunity to get away/detonate the nuke. The server would explode with rage at whoever recoded the shoes. It makes sense for fun and games, not at all fun for when push comes to shove.

I REALLY like Keroman's idea of instructors, and for a small karma unlock price. That with job-training holodeck programs would make Paradise unique among the servers, and I think would discourage a lot of greytiding/self-antagging from idle hands. A few ideas: - Perhaps creative wardens could agree on a set period of instruction time in a skill in lieu of imprisonment for non-violent offenses that would otherwise merit 10+ minutes of brig time. A certificate of completion could be required. Perhaps a karma-unlock job much like brig physician could be made specifically for an in-house "Corrective Education Director" whose purpose is to coordinate instruction as alternative sentences, either instructing personally or by using the pool of active instructors. - Some ideas on karma unlock prices for instructors: -Security Officer: No karma price: Admins manage who get these. Must be fluent in SoP, Space Law and have experience in all sec roles. -Bartender, Paramedic, Scientist: 3 Karma -Chemist, Roboticist, Medical Doctor: 5 Karma -Surgeon: 5 Karma plus MD certification -Engineering, Mechanic: 5 Karma -Atmos: 10 Karma and/or admin nod -Toxins: 10 Karma -The practice range for security can be ported to the holodeck and that space used as a second interro room. Splitting up pairs can be valuable. Prisoner's dilemma, anyone? And last but not least... -Certificates of completion can be put on someone's personal description, with the names of their instructors. How can you cross-check that? The library. Take the certificates of completion, using IC signatures that can be matched, get them stamped by the Captain or HoP at the time, then bind them all together in the library and added to the database. That way, they can be accessed and verified in other rounds. EDIT: Or, add a special "CentComm" stamp that can be spawned only by an admin to stamp the certificates.

Get rid of Bags of Holding spawning singularities

Why not have bags of holding spawn from the lathe in protective lockboxes that "isolate the bluespace emissions" (unlockable by any scientist or QM/above) or wrapped up sort of like a cargo shipment? Then it's really on you because you have no reason to put a BoH in a BoH. -

I wholeheartedly approve the merits of this. Never played xenobio so I don't know much, but I do remember something peculiar when I was a miner once that may help. This was in the last month. I was exploring the mining asteroid and entered an airlock of an off-site station to find mining equipment. Only it wasn't mining equipment entirely. The object whose sprite looked identical to the ore bag was called a "sample bag" or the like. Since it sits with a pickaxe, shovel and other trademark mining supplies, I found it odd when I examined the stack once and saw it come up as "sample bag" or "sample pouch." Not sure if it holds extracts. The place I'm thinking of, from the miner's perspective, is the safe side (east side) of the asteroid, all the way north when you follow the piping until you reach an airlock. There are also some sort of xenobio picks or something too, in a small box. I asked about it when I found it, someone said that feature was broken at the time.

What about expanding unlockables from vending machines based on coin type? This may simply be another suggestion entirely but in the vein of greater commerce, perhaps make certain current items (or certain new items) unlockable only by certain coin type. Tha would dramatically increase departmental dependence on mining, with everyone - medbay, the barkeep, the chef, security (optional here, make some gear free but certain items like seclites and real handcuffs require certain levels of coinage), engineering (youtools take coins), to just common civs require coinmaking and materials from mining... as if cargo needs more fighting for their resources. And, maybe get the special coins that miners can find unlock really great stuff in each vending machine. If that were to happen, make the coin on a wire a little less OP.

Backstory: The Cyberiad has encountered a strange anomaly that has created a massive powersink in the station, localized in the holodeck. The lazer tag simulator that was running has had the entire station's power run into it. In the resulting power surge, the holodeck landscape expanded over the entire footprint of the station, creating a holocopy of everything and everyone. The safeties have been burned into the off position. The real station is crippled. Unpowered and dying, the station needs the power that is pouring into the holodeck. An engineering ERT is currently beng assembled at CentComm, but communication is spotty and no one has a clue where to start to fix this problem. But that isn't your or the most pressing concern. Massive energy spikes are pouring from the holodeck and wreaking havoc on the physical station. And the AI, who until now has been the only one able to enter the holodeck, has linked the spikes to the fact that whenever a holocrewmember or holographic object leaves the station, disappears entirely. The working theory is that the power is released in an uncontrolled manner whenever a hologram leaves the hologrid. While the program can be reset, the power is finite and is causing real destruction. Worse, while the holograms are remarkably well copied and act much like their real counterparts, every time the program is reset, some damage akin to clone damage occurs in the holograms. In fact, when the AI has attempted to comunicate with the holograms to stay calm and not to leave the station, incredulous cries of MALF AI! TRAITORS! LINGS! WIZARD! occur. And that's just the beginning. Crazed sec officers are seen brutally harrassing the crew. Imprisoning them for odd and wrong motivations, wild conspiracies, or worse still, sadistic pleasure. This is so foreign to what you know at Nanotrasen. And the holographic deaths caused by the rampant hysteria also causes wild energy spikes from the holodeck on the real Cyberiad. Something must be done. The AI, running on limited power, has calculated that only one more reset of the program be attempted, and has found a way to insert a single real crewmember into the program, however, radiation damage will occur over time. No one not expendable should be sent, of course. You can receive medical attention in the holographic medbay, but will they dissect you as some foreign abomination, especially when they discover that a copy of you exists? You are the station's psychologist. Rarely needed in a new age of medical advancement and competence in all areas and job functions, you have reduced your life to a sad existence of drinking at your uselessness. And yet, your lost art is the one needed most now. You have been ordered to enter the holoprogram on its last reset. The station's AI will be ported into your PDA, and will be able to open doors but not much else. The Chief Engineer has suggested that while the energy spikes are both unpredictable and uncontrollable, a controlled energy spike would be able to be fed back into the station's batteries, allowing the singularity to be reset and the energy output then controlled. The alternative is that the singularity will grow to the point where it will destroy the station. Your mission: You must prevent, at any cost, any of the moving parts of the station (namely, the holographic copies of the Cyberiad crew) from leaving the station proper (including other z-levels), to prevent any call of the emergency shuttle, and ultimately, to assemble on the holodeck at 14:00 hours precisely, at least 30 holocharacters when a controlled shutdown will occur. The AI won't be able to help much. He will be ported into a pAI on you capable of opening doors and providing moral support. Do not, at any costs, allow the pAI to be captured, destroyed, or subverted. Perhaps you could get the AI transfered into a more useful, mobile version. Only a robotics department counterpart could help with that. You can also receive medical attention in the holographic medbay, but will they dissect you as some foreign abomination, especially when they discover that a copy of you exists? Oh, did I forget to remind you of that? And this crazed station has a fitting, malfunctioning AI to match it. It's time to save your crewmates. It's time to put your lessons to work. You are the unlikely hero. YOU ARE THE LONE VOICE OF REASON. --- Objective ideas for others... A copy of the psychologist has the objective to kill the real one. AI has malf objectives. Certain crewmembers have "There can only be one" or "Escape alone-hijack" Incredibly destructive events. Anything that would normally force a shuttle call. The greentext goal is to get the station to 14:00 and crew to a specifc section, holodeck or cargo bay, maybe two alternate locations. What do you think? Is it feasible? Of course the real Cyberiad wouldn't be seen. It would be a normal shift with a psychologist or psychology team with the greentext objectives as stated above. As an alternative to asembling in a location perhaps get to 14:15 without boarding the shuttle. Anyone, including psychologist, travelling to a different z-level or EVA means instant death (or perhaps infection with incurable virus thatwill result in death in 10 minutes or so to prevent meta realization of the connection).

One of the things I dread is playing a job for the first time where few, if any, others are alloted and others can't or won't assist you in doing your job. Access restrictions, demand of crisis situations that require your attention or everyone else's, etc. Engineering and medbay are two good examples of this. I am reluctant to become an engineer. There's so much I don't know and for what I do know, I usually need to keep a wiki open right next to me for the steps I forget. So, I spend a lot of time scavenging the maintenance tunnels as a civ, scavenging for an hour to find a coin that will allow me to buy the lone pair of insulated gloves in the youtool that is inevitably gone when I insert it at 13:30. Also, cargo sends me around the station getting forms in triplicate for a pair of insulated gloves. Cargo sends me to the HoP who sends me to the CE, then the CE ignores me. Then it's off to the caverns to find enough materials to actually create anything. Random sec officer searches you and asks WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Just trying to learn, friend. PERMA for the criminal scum! There must be a better way. To my suggestion: put all the materials and tools (perhaps a couple of youtools on steroids) and a working airlock and APC in a holoprogram. Break things down, build them back. Create amazing devices and learn how to be robust when meteors start bombarding the station. Try to walk out with anything, it disappears. End the program and start again. Hold demonstrations where an engie teaches others how to do things. Maybe add a button which will create a breach in all except atmos effects that needs to be fixed. No job demands and CE's wondering why you signed on if you were useless, no denied cargo requests, no hassle in acquiring materials, no learning from a jail cell. If something like this is feasible (and it may be really not, so I apologize to any coders I've frazzled), maybe this can be expanded for other jobs. Chemist and chef are two jobs with a lot of demand from the station, rarely a partner that isn't SSD, and specific access restrictions that prevent others from coming in and/or using your equipment. Perhaps a holomedbay with cryo, surgery theater, etc. If you can't summon up holopatients, just put a crowbar and a knife in there to inflict the injuries that can then be holohealed. I don't want to make this overwhelming, and even one very small and simple holodeck training to test the idea out would be fun too. Thoughts on interest and feasibility?
