Acting Head of Staff Captainship Dilemna
sdtwbaj replied to TullyBBurnalot's topic in Wiki Development
In terms of insolent staff, anyone in a remotely sensitive position like chemist, genetics, Viro etc. should be demoted the second they show any insolence, those roles have the ability to fuck shit up. I like the rest of this though. Encourage dat socialRP. -
I could say "XYZ has accessed a Command-level restricted area" That isn't hinting at a law change :3. Also, afaik, the rules say the AI doesn't have to obey any self-harm orders or laws if it doesn't desire to.

construction site????

Medical doctor can only support 4 doctors due to equipment limitations--medhuds, gloves, etc. Engineer can support up to 6 since there's 6 hardsuits available Scientist is basically limitless Security is limited to 9 due to gear Mining limited to 3(?) not sure if there's more on the outpost. Cargo techs are basically limitless, although ideally 4 should be the max of the max.

We could implement aurora grab-combat, adds joint locking, breaking, covering eyes and mouths, forcing people to the ground, head butting, fuck even slitting throats.
-
Could another player see that on your sprite? If so, it seems like a no.
-
No. "But why not?" Because that's just execution. The fact you need to add a cryo chamber into permabrig kinda tells you WHY Execution is a viable and commonly requested punishment. (Fun fact: A prisoner can REQUEST Execution/Cyborging over permabrig and can be legally given one at Security's discretion. Not just with Captain/Magistrate approval.) You die. You ghost. You get to do other things, join as a posibrain or drone or pAI or whatever. World's your oyster. Permabrig is NOT fun long-term, gardening and basketball are fun for a while but quickly lose their luster, you're basically cut off from everyone so you can't even RP. Compared to just dying and spawning as any number of mid-round events, it's almost universally worse in EVERY regard in terms of preserving fun for a player. If they request it, sure, give it. However, there are situations where players are GETTING RP, or are GETTING forced into execution by an overflexing Magistrate or Captain. If they'd rather die, go ahead and flex the murderboner, but if they WANT to stay in the round, why would you ever force that on them?
-
I like this. A radiation-shielded room within permabrig.
-
Permabrig, that rarely used place because everyone likes killing people for !!FUN!!. Some people think it's boring, however now there's plenty to do, like basketball, or gardening. There are some risks, especially with Vox and Plasmapeople, but that's why we have isolation, or MAYBE execution. In Space Law, execution is allowed for any capital crime, and usually this is exercised by Captains and Magistrates alike, needlessly removing them from the round. In the interest of preserving the !!FUN!!, even for captured criminals and antags, we should almost entirely abolish execution*, and make Permabrig or forced cyborgification the highest sentence possible. * keep execution for anyone escaping from perma, or vox criminals. Plasmapeople can be borged, Vox can't really because of their implant, so that's sorta the only reason execution is useful. In addition, for those who insist that permabrig is boring af, let's add a cryo chamber of four beds to permabrig, and one bed to isolation, so that you can still observer in peace if you so desire. If this does end up being done, it'd probably drastically improve the quality of RP in the Brig area, with Executions so rare, and it'd certainly improve quality of life of many people, who get to stay in the round and have the glimmer of hope of escape if someone so desires to help them, as well has having the normal !!fun!! inside of perma.

I understand the concerns with it, however tokens would only be given if a person boned out of their round requested one, which many probably forget to do. It's still getting screwed out of an antag round, and it doesn't make it alright to not try to fix it with the player just because 'oh it happened'.
-
Kay, apparently the current policy on antag tokens is only if an admin fucks something up, boning you out of your antag round. Seems fair, right? Not really. If the server crashes, the end result is the same, you're boned out of your antag round. So why not give antag tokens to people who lose their antag round due to a server crash? Seems fairly simple to me.

safe can git cracked babbu

Captain should get safe code in his wall safe tbh.

shrug To port goonufacturing, we also likely have to port goonmining, and make adaptations to almost everything constructable (some anyway, goonufacturing has a lot of it)
-
Mechanics have been on Goonstation a decent while, so I imagine a slightly older version would be in the released code. Goon is still closed (correct me if I'm wrong) and there's only an open version because someone leaked it at one point. They made an official release of their build at the time of the leak, because the leaked version was messy internal workarounds.
-
As far as I know, these mechanics, albeit a more dated version, are in the official release.
-
pls no make your own daMN THREAD!!! Seriously though, this would be pretty fun. I just imagine the Julius Caesar...
-
But it won't. It's as simple as a joining announcement, like the spooky Halloween one, allowing these names. Using it as an excuse to use names after Halloween is like saying 'because we used nations last round i can murderbone' It then goes back to normal enforcement, and it isn't especially hard to enforce.
-
On the theory of dressing up for Halloween, let's strike this rule for that day. Unserious and Improper character names will be changed by an admin. If you continue to join rounds with unserious names, you may receive harsher consequences than just a name change. We allow names from video games and fantasy names, but forbid real life celebrity names or crude pun names. Maybe leave crude puns banned, but allowing RL names since people be dressing up as IRL celebs. (and adolf hitler, but he's still bound by the racism etc. rule)

It's a deeper, richer manufacturing system, instead of a magic raw material 3D printer
-
I could see how it's a lot of grunt work, modifying flavor texts etc. I think the biggest changes would be, in no particular order... - Economy We can port 95% of this from Goon, but since the station is going to become a government-jurisdiction thing, and not NT, there's going to need to be more cashflow and less magic supply shuttle. - Law Since it's a government station, space law will have to be edited to remove Corporate-specific things, instead left to a company HR or Internal Affairs department to handle those corporate-specific inquiries - Atmosphere (not atmospherics) The station as a whole will need to take on the 'independent' vibe. Less NT things, less propaganda, more of a fresh look, as it were.
-
I actually spent a bit of time on Goon earlier, and fell in absolute love with their manufacturing system. For those who haven't been on Goon, my tldr of the manufacturing system is that engineering, science, and medical departments (in our case it'd be cargo too) can manufacture their own things, with a rather constant cycle of material flow. Mining ores each have classifications as what kind of 'material' they'd be, such as a sturdy metal, high-voltage power source, crystal, etc. and there are many kinds of fabricators for everything. I did some more research on it and discovered that there is also material fusion. You can create hybrids of all kinds of materials, creating armors, gloves, etc. that draw on the combined stats of those materials. Looms can turn some things into thread for fabrics, nanocrucibles create highly-fused alloys for advanced technologies, things of that nature. Meanwhile, our 'manufacturing' system is "mine shit -> give to Science -> shove in magic 3d printer -> science hogs forever -> viva la science" and nobody else is really involved in producing -anything-.

Make the xenos just a bit more realistic and balanced
sdtwbaj replied to The Respected Man's topic in Suggestions
perhaps it breaks ribs, destroys lungs and heart, massive brute damage. saveable but fucked up e: also repel them from fire, they can't go within like 2 tiles of fire 0-x 0 is xeno - is tile x is fire
