Make it So You can't Resist grabs while Stunned
Doukan replied to SkeletalElite's topic in Suggestions
Should really have a little cool down like /rest/ does if only to prevent spamming, should always be an option though with at last a small chance to escape since 100% u ded always sucks. -
Way back when it was the NCS Cyberiad for a while, a commerce station. I think that got dropped when ambassadors/customs got cut. less than half the station is actually relevant to the only thing NT cares about anyway, muh plasma, everything else is just support. There's been suggestions about decentralizing departments before (stuff like splitting sec into checkpoints/reducing the size of engineering into area SMES's instead of one big engine) but they never go anywhere, a bigger map might help though.

With space being deadlier it's nice to see people treating it like they should, a deathtrap to be taken seriously which is why cycle airlocks exist in the first place. This shouldn't be discouraged by making magboots more ubiquitous IMO, maybe throw in EVA access though seeing as their entire job is to be out in space.
-
Arresting people for fooling around in their workplace isn't really keeping to the spirit of the game IMO, though as said what's described in OP is already adequately covered by the vandalism/hazard/dereliction of duty laws. If certain folks are really being a nuisance there's absolutely nothing stopping you from dealing with it IC, just take their metal/confiscate that toolbelt, just don't be shocked when you walk back to the brig to find all the entrances blocked by vending machines.

Make unclonability for whatever reason a char preference ala NT relations/disabilities AND HAVE IT COME UP IN BIG RED LETTERS when someone tries to scan the corpse, problemo en el solvedad? Or have it be an SE mutation, that might be more fun.

The current things that are causing my blood pressure to rise, rant initiated: - The same people looting the gateway every round denying the rest of us the chance to have a go at learning it, looking at you cardboard boxing WW'ers. - The omnipresence of meme chars that dchat/ooc likes to fawn over, the players themselves aren't even that bad and are usually quite decent well thought out individuals but the cringey ego rubbing bothers me. - The people who play comdomand roles just to fool around with their not!metabuddies and don't do their damn jobs, looking at you RD's who fail to oversee their manchildren/CMOs and CEs who ignore their departments and fuck off to the bridge all round, NT reps/magistrates are especially bad for this somehow and they don't even have any real responsibilities. - The current prevalence of round start backup clone scanning by everyone, this would be understandable if it were say the captain doing it or perhaps someone who might expect to find themselves dead in the near future like say an engineering team setting up a SM engine or a miner who is a bit self doubting of their goliath kiting abilities. Not the botanist and his not!metabuddy the roboticist. Give the damn antags a chance you dishonoirbru bastards. - The nasty habit most QM/HoPs have of making you jump through every possible hoop to slow you down that they possibly can just because they can. Yes asking for a stamp/signature is reasonable if I want a transfer to somewhere "high risk" like virology/sec or want to order a crate of guns, but when it's for some joke position like cadet or intern or I'm after some janitorial supplies it's just redundant and all you are doing by making me get a stamp is wasting everyone's time. - The cunts who give the rest of us a bad name and play civilian just to grief and get away with borderline shit, even better when it's a veteran doing it who should know better, who've discovered the joys of the grey for the first time after months of being too scared to leave medbay, bonus points if they're a vox/slime/plasmaperson as they tend to go even further. - People who roll for clown/chef/unique role, get it, don't get antag and immediately cyro/kill themselves, at least make some shitty food/tell some bad jokes before spacing yourself damnit. - On a similar note, the people who immediately cyro when it's revealed to be a conversion antag round, the excuses in dchat are usually something along the lines of "well I hate this gamemode" when what I suspect they mean is "I don't wanna leave my aarpee hugbox and have to actually do antag shit", cowards. - The players who unironically have all antag roles set to no, always play sec, and honestly believe that people who roll for antag are bad people and must be punished. - Neon vulps and neon everything, in fact make that anything that sceams "i iz uniquee and iz superior" in general, specifically elitist IPCs who straight up refuse to interact with filthy meatbags despite working in medbay or the oh so "clever" fuckers who take some pop culture name and fuck about with the vowels to make it oriqunal, or the worst, the lazy ones who throw together some "cuteeee" N.O.T.A.N.A.C.T.U.A.L.A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. together and can't even be bothered to make up some meaning behind it and then expect to be taken seriously, whilst having robotic cat ears. - Slimes/plasmapeople with names like squelchy/memedrogen, you are not one of snow white's dwarves. - The "no, you are wrong" approach people have towards incompetence, the honest to god I have no idea what I'm doing kind of "bringing a fuel tank to a blob/tasing a xenomorph" incompetence, they will not learn if you do not teach them and calling them a fucking idiot and bullying them is not teaching. - Being arrested and not interrogated/talked to at all, I mean yeah I have an emag in my pocket and was half way through stabbing the HoP's face off when you caught me but come on at least grill me a little for info before dumping me in perma and forgetting I exist, meant to be an RP game right? Where's muh interaction? - The absolute zero tolerance by command towards gimmicks, I cannot count the number of times I have been straight up told to fuck off when I bring up things like creating a no additional access civilian militia to help sec fight shadowlings/try to setup a feudal hierarchy (more than once for that one)/run a maint mafia doing harmless mafia things, then people complain about rounds being boring. - Certain AI players who play to win and then some, you know the ones who always "LAHWS UPDAYTED" to let the crew know about that "do not state" chicken law you just gave it? How about the ones who use macros to check camera lists and immediately dispatch sec whenever one goes down? No fun allowed incarnate.
-
Little bit of both, moar decent quality RP with people behaving nicely would be great. However the TF sting isn't necessarily antithetical to this IMO. Especially since it could be reacted too in so many ways but instead folks always choose the "shit rounds over man rounds over" approach. It depends more on how people react to it I think, but that and RP standards in general deserve their own thread.
-
What RP? Outside of the closed circles of sec/command/actual honest to god snowflakes/the oh so rare entire department full of people who know how to *me correctly there isn't much of it byond not being blatantly OOC. Yeah officially the server is "medium RP" but aside from the rule against no actual OOC in IC and the vague guideline of "SS13 being an RP game" there's zilch in terms of policy nevermind reality IMO. perhaps others have a different view but I personally don't see any of it and I'm the kind of weirdo who does paragraph long *slowly raises the claw of his hand in a threatening gesture* sort of stuff.

In all honesty I don't think species like diona/vox/plasmaman shouldn't be TF'able if we want to apply (space) logic, then however that gives them an unfair advantage and firmly deviates from the sidegrade philosophy that's supposed to govern the non-human playable species. Yeah your round gets "ruined" but that's kinda part of the cling's job, especially since it's usually directed at the folks who're in sec/command. Ideally we'd have species quotas (too many slimes/vox!) and this wouldn't be an issue but that's not gonna happen. Alternatively I'd suggest having "non standard" DNA like plasmaman/vox/diona/slime/cluwne/shadowpeople be non extractable ala with IPCs, said species should still be susceptible to being TF stung, just not to having their own DNA taken, that'd remove the griff potential whilst still enabling the !!fun!!.
-
As I said in the PR the TF sting really doesn't need nerfing, it's really easily counterable as is (That guy in a hardsuit ran past me and now I'm a fat space lizard! get him!) with it's long ass cooldown and massive chemical cost (you get spotted running away from that guy who you just TF'd? RIP you most likely), and has seen variable use through the years as it fades in and out of fashion. the whole point of it is to sow chaos and confusion and that's exactly what it does. I suspect the only reason people are getting salty about it now is because some bright sparks decided to elevate it to meme status using the DNA of the latest popular snuflakes, that'll pass, needlessly nerfing a perfectly good antag ability however would be permanent and real tragedy. It's currently overused yes but that's no excuse to hugbox yet another tactic.

Can We Please Have a Backstory section on our charectars.
Doukan replied to Darjeeling's topic in Suggestions
We already do technically if you count medical/security records which you can customize in the char preferences screen, nobody ever checks them though. I should know I've had a ridiculous copy pasta as mine for 2 years now that has yet to be picked up on. -
Dehydrated space carp? EoC! Re-implement customs and re-work the arrivals security checkpoint to cover the gateway, problem solved. I've been perma'd more than once for possessing such severe gateway contraband as an unloaded stenchkin/black and red soft suit, which space law actively enforces as anything at "class S" gets you treated as EoC. That's one of the problems with having such literal borderline OOC SoP/space law IMO as it doesn't leave any breathing room, either they perma you for having something available through the uplink or they aren't doing their jobs, which sucks for everyone when you were just trying to have fun with some harmless space suits.
-
TBH I think we should just replace it with <play X days to unlock Y> with the exception of plasmapeople and maybe vox. It's a nice idea and all and is great for rewarding people but too many people get left behind.
-
NO It was and would be stupid OP, instantly ending any combat is just rubbish. It was bad enough when there were only a few vox running around. The dozens we have now would be recipe for pure shit.
-
This sounds like the sort of thing that would be great for VIPs but absolutely hell to balance for use by anyone else.
-
Ideally we'd bring back hardsuits slowing to crawl in pressurised environments too, that was taken out for being annoying but now there's little reason not to wear one 24/7.
-
Can we throw something in there about who is responsible for civilians and what their expected (if any) behaviour is? if only to have to something to point to when greyshits pull the old "it's my job to do nothing" card. They're technically not crew, or are they? They're semi-stateless ATM. Ideally they'd be given minimum rights of course.
-
Yes, you are the cancer that is killing us I mean no, but yeah I play a lot probably a lot more than I should and imagine a lot of it comes down to just being around to roll more dice. Assuming Byond isn't self aware yet that's all it is. My advice to you would be to hop around different perhaps more fast paced servers every once in a while when you're ghosted or something, just to get a taste of their mechanics and maybe roll more dice.
-
Obscures vision/shields from glaring heat, maybe minor protection like what sunglasses used to/get?
-
My record is five times in a row, traitor-traitor-changeling-vampire-blob, my longest dry spell is 2 months, I play on average 6+ hours a night a few days a week. Adminbusery aside it comes down entirely to RNG and I wouldn't have it any other way, the last thing we need is space socialism when it comes to rolling for antag. Any such system would only end up infested with shitty player drama. It just so happens that when it does happen to certain people they tend to play in a certain way that attracts notice (squishy larkens anyone? I fucking hate player memes but that was just uncanny). If you're concerned about your ability it's very easy to setup a test server for yourself to play around with the mechanics.
-
We actually had almost exactly this come up in game a while ago (one year? more than that, maybe just under 2) when we temporally switched to a halloss or something system where all stuns worked like disablers, ie: like you'd expect a shocky stick to actually work. @Spacemanspark was around then and probably well remembers the salt threads. The net result was stuns were more difficult to actually get but lasted longer and were generally more debilitating if you actually managed to get there, albeit due to how it worked was incredibly easy to cheese with certain tactics/chems (TABLES) but made for better combat flow overall IMO, though as you can imagine fans of the golden bolt weren't too happy. Eventually enough fuss was kicked up and a plebiscite happened, naturally the shitty compromise option came out on top and we've been stick with it ever since. If people are really after a new stun system don't get your hopes up, bear in mind everything would need rebalancing due to how stun being king has shaped the balance of nigh everything since. That and the powers that be love love winsticks for some reason.
-
They do that and not the clowns? Wew. In that case a mechanical limit may be in order.
-
A recent trend I've seen is the outright refusal of command to hire any new sec "because they can't be properly vetted" because they might be antags and we can't have that. Sec horde is a thing of the past.
-
If I were a police officer IRL I wouldn't show up to work with my utility belt whatever it is belt,it'd be in some sort of storage. The brig could use more gear in it though those lockers empty out really quickly. Same logic should apply to new arrivals IMO, maybe have an exception for round start spawned officers though.

Maybe it's time we think about removing secborgs
Doukan replied to Love-To-Hug's topic in Suggestions
I ask fairly often with *nods politely towards you emotes and everything, 9/10 times I get told to fuck off. Then again I mostly play civilian.
