Because implicit trust shouldn't be a thing and I want more paranoia. And what better way to encourage security to be more self aware? And it'd give the IAA a reason not to auto-cyro. Folks like the captain and HoS and maybe warden too certainly not however, since they're no doubt extensively vetted and trained and such, the mall cop level officers though shouldn't such paragons of virtue IMO, especially now loyalty implants don't exist anymore. I've been told off for lacking foresight recently so here are some pros and cons I thought up but don't necessarily dis/agree with. I might actually figure out if poll creation is possible one day. Pros: - More paranoia, can only be a good thing. - Will encourage more people to play sec to enjoy said paranoia. - Will liven things up, sec being a bastion of ultimate loyalty is very stale. - Lots of aarpee potential, might see some actual framejobs. Cons: - We can't let antags have access to stun weapons that we have, that's OP! - We NEED to be able to trust sec to effectively counter the antags, how else can we hope to beat them every-time like we do most of the time anyway? - I don't roll for antag, only play sec, and shouldn't have to worry about my co workers turning on me, that's something I can't 100% secure myself against. - Unnecessary change, no reason to, don't do it, we must stagnate. I'm not biased at all honest

We really need this. Something or anything to distract from the antag focused gameplay would be a fine addition, at current it's pretty much universally focused on acting/reacting on whatever the bad guys get up to and whatever bar arrpee people can be bothered indulging in. I'd say put right below a better atmos system in terms of "whip the coder slaves into doing it" priority.
-
I think it was because the code needed purging for not working properly/ wasn't compatible with other more important stuff/ was just never updated.
-
It'd be nicely thematic IMO, might be a bit much considering how they have the spehshul gun already, last thing we need is more sec power creep.
-
The current atmos system is so ignorable it's barely a part of the game anymore IMO. Unless you're actually taking a space walk or the area you're in is bombed to shit you can almost disregard it entirely, and that's a real shame. Atmos code is hell and all, but I'd suggest getting something better ought to be a real priority, if only so to make space significant again.

This doesn't go far enough. People are the problem, autoban everyone who connects to the server and we can have a truly immursion filled experience.

My point of contention isn't that they're hopelessly OP ( stun immunity/winstick baton aside they're fairly well balanced compared to certain other things cough cough science cough), rather that their inherent features and the people who're often attracted to playing them make them terrible all the same, and worthy of removal for the same reasons as telescience. All it takes is a validsalad/less than ideal attitude to make them shitty to interact with, their own laws are typically given a backseat, SoP usually gets thrown out the window as well because "protectin' teh stayshun" has to come first or some such BS, there's the rare good egg who actually behave like a robot and not a validomatic but I can count the number of times that's happened on one hand. That and the hallway stripping which still happens on occasion and the dumping in processing, I don't know how many wardens suffer high blood pressure due to sec borg negligence but I bet it's a very high number, albeit that's more of a processing issue in general but still something I see in sec borgs more often than not. I actually kinda like the hailer... It's a great way to hear them coming

I just want a fancier gibber, you can't even upgrade it ATM I think.
-
I can't really argue with the good points that can be brought up, there are after all perfectly good ways sec borgs can go about sec borging. In nearly three years of playing SS13 though the trend on my side has become very clear indeed, they're more trouble than they're worth IMO, maybe because the people who seem to play them do so in a certain way but that's more a of general powertrip issue. I mean, not so long ago there was one particular individual who at roundstart made a point of acquiring the captain's spare radio so they could "protect the station's comms" or some such nonsense, similar behaviour proliferates rather rapidly. When was the last time you were arrested by a sec borg that didn't go along the lines of "HALT HALT PEW PEW ZZZZZPT"? They're purely conductive to bad gameplay.
-
i baton'd pls remove In all seriousness, NOT ONCE have I EVER, not ONCE, EVER, had ANY positive sort of experience with a sec borg. They exist purely to powergame, they are immune to nigh everything, they are always played by the most dickish of players... Vampire? Send in the sec borg. Changeling rampage? Sec borg. Anything short of blob? Odds are the sec borg can lol baton it since they're pretty much invulnerable unless the victim has some sort of EMP, which 9/10 times they do not. If this game were rock paper scissors the fucking sec borgs would be a hand-grenade. I hate them, I fucking hate them, goon had it right, poll please. But Doukan, just git gud, steal a flash from tech sto- Yeah and get 20 minutes for B&E of a restricted area theft and vandalism, because whenever there are sec borgs about the AI is just as bad.
-
Could have things like "security cadet" "medical intern" "research aide" as alt civilian titles without any actual access. Then they'd be able to run to the HoP's to get it with decent reason and maybe not just get told "lol nope u may be antag".
-
Might work better as a jumpsuit attachment, how much damage? stenchkin level? Perfect for the clown!
-
Syndie-pin that does it in 10-20, identical looking commonish maint shit version that takes 20-30? 9/10 times first thing sec does is empty your pockets anyway, the lazier ones take your jumpsuit... Ear slot? Finally, a legitimate reason to wear that gas mask.
-
I'd be happy with some sort of shitty shiv made out of plastic cups. 1-3 damage with a mediumish chance of causing bleeding and totally negated by any level of armour... it's a prisoners dream.
-
It's not very thematic IMO. Everyone else with a loyalty implant is associated with sec in some way, doesn't make much sense for the civilians to be packing them as well, may as well dish them out to the CE and CMO since they have black hole/infinite sedative access. The problem with RD antags being 2robust is because too few people question them and by the time they're obviously antagging it's too late, they're a member of command and get away with shit they shouldn't purely by virtue of their authoritah. Seriously, just have someone sitting on the cameras spy on them for a while, it's pretty much common practice to do it to the AI by now, may as well go full NSA on the heads too, no excuse not to since we got that snazzy new camera system. Or you know, ask IA to do an audit, god knows they need something to do.

Security Cadets with the access of a normal officer minus holding cells so they can't actually sentence anyone) is what I usually go for. Something similar for medical students (medbay minus surgery) or research interns (scientist's normal access minus toxins/experimentor because that shits dangerous). If the HoP has half a brain and the relevant heads aren't all "NO THEY WEREN'T HERE ON ROUND START AND CANNOT BE LET IN IN CASE THEY ANTAG" it's easy to set them up as things are. Unfortunately, HoPs are usually too busy being backup captains

Acting Head of Staff Captainship Dilemna
Doukan replied to TullyBBurnalot's topic in Wiki Development
I always saw the acting heads as nothing more than placeholders. Seems a bit weird for it to be theoretically possible for some random civvie to shoot to the top, social mobility is so 24th century. -
Bee jars should be a thing, or nicotine spray to knock them unconscious so you can carry them around or something. If bees being loose is half as much a problem as it's made out to be they maybe should be more strictly controlled, then again, they're space bees, just swat the bastards. Bit of a non issue unless they're meth infused.
-
It'd only really need a minimum 3x3/5x5 area, that's something that can just be tacked on in the locker area to jut into maint a little. ... Does pest spray kill bees? probably should.

Streaky's hopefully low-code pAI suggestions.
Doukan replied to Streaky Haddock's topic in Suggestions
I shouldn't have to need to skrek tcomms just to murder one guy. You can always just wear a mask and be 2fast4sec, still though I've had multiple experiences with targets having pAIs and it's always, always "ANTAG MCSYNDIE IS KILLING TARGET MCDED IN MURDERPLACE SEND HALP HE WEARIN LEATHER SATCHEL AND WHITE SHOES". They're literally living death alarms, I know folks like to RP them and they're marginally helpful for paperwork and such, but that's all secondary to their primary function of being a fucking foghorn, making them harder to produce won't make much difference either as science inevitably end up swimming in materials if mining are half decent. The quality of life stuff (hiding/flashlight) is fair enough and should probably be in already, they shouldn't be able to open doors though (I forsee a lot of lynch mobs having an easier time) and their speed is fine as it is, it's been stated by the admins several times that they're supposed to be minor roles, they shouldn't have real responsibilities IMO. -
Maybe make that useless pasture space above the kitchen into a specialized apiary area? Or allow bees to be collected and stored in glass jars if you need to move them around? Unless the botanists are breeding unstable mutagen doom bees or something, it's pretty unfair to blanket blame them for not being careful enough when most of the time beeageddon happens because people barge in.

Streaky's hopefully low-code pAI suggestions.
Doukan replied to Streaky Haddock's topic in Suggestions
They're living death alarms, people already make a point of grabbing them for their "HALP MASTA BEIN KILLED" properties. Don't get me wrong these would be cool features, they'd just suck ass for anyone who tried anything and make pAIs even more of a must-have thing. -
I was originally thinking it'd be great to have mini-hulked pale maniacs running around, but then I realized what a terrible idea that is, strange moods IN SPAAACE with less craftdwarfship and more robusting sounds a lot nicer. As far as the psychiatrist's involvement goes, upon reflection it would probably would be better to have it be a medbay wide responsibility, albeit with the Freud guy being the one calling shots (if the CMO can't be bothered to, but they should be running surgery or something anyway). Kinda like how with cult/vamp the chaplain is meant to be the one going all van helsing, they're nigh always subsumed in that role by sec/everyone else, having something for the psych to do though even if it is just on paper would still be a step forward IMO.
-
It's kinda irrelevant since husked corpses haven't been a problem for a while, all medical have to do is one brain swap surgery and defib the result. If anything it's actually easier to put someone's brain in a monkey body than it is to clone them, not really sure if that's WAD but it's a funny work around all the same.
-
Really though, just give defibs a much narrower window/require frequent recharging and have them deal heart damage (so people can't constantly revive to infinity) and most of the problems to do with easy resurrection would disappear, assuming strange reagent is nuked from orbit because that stuffs just OP. IMO ideally cloning would be more expensive, but not any more time consuming, purely so genetics would have an actual responsibility, something like having to cannibalize humanized monkeys for biomass maybe?
