Giving the best and biggest validhunter in all the game even more tools to validhunt isn't a good idea---the more omnipresent an AI is the less and less wiggle room traitors are going to have.

Additional Means to Open Locked Containers (Crates, Lockers)
Fox McCloud replied to unmovedmover's topic in Suggestions
you mean the totally balanced armor that had these armor stats? melee = 90, bullet = 70, laser = 60,energy = 40, bomb = 75, bio = 75, rad = 75 It also gave you -4 slowdown (that's twice as fast as meth) with the servos, was unremovable, and acted as a spacesuit. combined with a security or syndicate jumpsuit you were LITERALLY immune to melee damage. -
Additional Means to Open Locked Containers (Crates, Lockers)

Um, no. They're there to stop science from being the utlimate powergaming and validhunting jerks that outclass and outpower literally everyone on the entire station. We had no lockboxes at one point; 90% of science ended up with stun revolvers literally 10 minutes into the round. -
Easily said when you're not the one who coded it.I hate to sound like a jackass with that statement, but it's a bit irritating given the situation. Essentially, you're trying to tell coders how hard/easy something is, when you're not a coder yourself, you didn't touch the system, and haven't submitted a single PR to the codebase.. It's akin to a patient trying to tell his own doctor how difficult/easy it is to treat something despite not having medical experience themselves. As for LINDA--it ties in with gas datums, pipes, pipenets, atmospherics machinery, air alarms, scrubbers, firelocks, fire alarms, chemistry, some projectiles, turfs, and flamethrowers. I'm sure I'm missing a couple more....either case, it touches a LOT; it's not just initial LINDA PR that would have to be changed; it would have to be every single PR that is even related to LINDA--you'd have to yank out features and mold a lot of others to work specifically without LINDA existing.

Sums up my thoughts on it, quite well. Makeshift weapons should largely be that; makeshift weapons, not weapons masquerading as "legit" IC items. There's legit IC reasons to take away a home-made crossbow, spear, stunprod, or air-cannon. There's no IC justification to take away a baseball bat, at all--the reasons you want to take it away are purely "it has a high force rating".
-
This isn't even remotely possible, not by a long-shot. It literally just plain doesn't function this way at all; it's designed entirely around the concept of being turf based, not based on an arbitrarily defined area. I can't stress enough how literally impossible this is given how LINDA was designed, built, and how if functions.

just put it in his locker then. There's currently a map freeze right now, anyway.

It's already been months and months. LINDA, for example, was slotted in in PR #895; we're now in the #2100 range--that's a LOT of changes since LINDA got put in (with tons of changes built up around LINDA, too boot). This isn't a specific object like a type of flashlight that you can just rip out and easily place something else back in---it's a system that is the culmination of many many months of internal and external discussion, then many many more months of working on it and refining it for Paradise. There's also a pipenet refactor in the...err...pipe...line....coming up that also comes from TG and also is in line with LINDA. The amount of interlocking parts that have been built up around LINDA is incredibly high; it would be tantamount to reverting our chemistry system (if not worse). Again, let me make it clear. I'm not opposed to making LINDA run faster---we're just not at a point where we can do so yet, for performance reasons.
-
Easily said when you're not the one who did all the coding for it. It took weeks to get get LINDA up and running and PR ready, then a good month or two to get all the bugs and oddities about it sorted out and up to the same standard it was on TG. "It wouldn't be that difficult"? You're literally talking about ripping out an entire system that took several months of troubleshooting to get where it is today--not to mention that the current scrubbers, air alarms, and fire alarms are also currently updated to TG's standards as well--so you'd have to rip those out and re-do those too. Oh, did I mention that gas datums, fire protection, mob temperature handling, being on fire, etc are all tied in with LINDA as well? There's also game mechanics implications of it, as well---fighting fires will return to being impossible, chemistry's hotspots will function poorly, and flamethrowers will also cease to function at all. It's not a simple matter, at all--it would require just as much work that went into it to revert it all and place ZAS back in---and it's still going to end up being more expensive than LINDA currently is, computationally. I'm not saying LINDA is perfect--it's not--no atmos system in all of SS13 is---and I"m not saying we CAN'T consider making LINDA faster, in the future, let me make that clear.

And RCD that literally never runs out of ammo, mind you =p

Spaceman, generally speaking, putting items ON people is to limit the availability of particular items to a particular class, so it can't be abused in some way (miner's with vouchers, officer's with hybrid tasers, etc.) For something like a seclite, it would be far more preferable to add it to either (A) His locker/closet (B)On the map, in his office. I'd personally recommend his closet.

Hmm...there definitely isn't an industrial work-related mech that is geared towards not mining and specifically for fighting fires or other on-station tasks..hmmm. =p I don't think I've ever seen a firefighter RIPLEY be built.

Intellicard AI's and pAI's: Hardsuit edition!
Fox McCloud replied to Spacemanspark's topic in Suggestions
Not only this, but this effectively makes the wearer of the hardsuit unkillable, long turn, unless you out and out gib him or you use an EMP on every hardsuit wearer to ensure that you did, in fact, kill the pAI. Why? If the person dies, the pAI can cake over and control the suit. It's evne worse on Bay because of how retarded their hardsuits are; you can't even remove a hardsuit without surgery. Spaced someone? Too bad, pAI is going to get up and steer you right back to the station. Dropped in maintenance somewhere? Too bad, pAI is going to get its master up and walk back to medbay. -
Yup. Generally agree.
-
I would like to point out that rule 6 is effectively not applicable of you get "hijack"---so we DO allow for "do whatever you want", it's just on a very limited basis.

If this is done, it will do a LOT of harm to RP---I will warn you guys about that up front. It means that the average round duration will drop from 2 hours to probably around 45-75 minutes...because it means that you can wrack up a large body count in no time flat. It also means that the engineer can release the singularity 5 minutes in...or toxins scientist can set up 6 max size tank transfers over the station and blow them all---15 minutes in. It also generates an environment where everyone is paranoid and in fear of their life from literally everyone---no longer is an antag a threat to just his target/objective, he's a threat to the ENTIRE station. Oh, and if you thought validhunting was bad now? It will turn literally anyone and everyone into a validhunter--even those who are normally super peaceful. Why? Because if you don't validhunt, then you and everyone around you is likely going to die once a traitor starts tatorin'. I have very very mixed feelings on the issue--on one hand, I love the creativity that comes with this--on the other though, the damage it does to RP is incredibly high (in my opinion). Generally speaking, personally, I feel this would not be a good direction for Paradise to head in--I'd rather see more RP (and less validhunting/people faffing off/etc) than go in the direction here...but that's my own two cents.

In this scenario, having an access check to set status would likely be the best bet.
-
Could probably use better wording, but breaking Space Law is absolutely not breaking the server rules. If you ahelp over someone punching you once or trespassing into your space once---it's going to get you a "sounds like an IC issue to me" as a reply. Likewise with drug possesion and a plethora of others---it's on a case by case basis, but breaking laws, especially lower level ones, is not against the server rules. As I said--literally nothing can open them except someone with armory access or an emag.
-
Um no, just no. Space law absolutely is NOT server rules; someone who breaks space law is NOT breaking serve rules, by any stretch. Space Law is an IC thing and game mechanic. I don't think you know how lockboxes work. They're literally impossible to open unless you have (1) ARMORY access (2) An Emag. There's literally only three people on the entire station who can open them, legally. There's literally NO other way to possibly open them.

From what I gathered, a lot of the radios are the way there are due to attempting to emulate real ratios for various drinks/cocktails.
-
This sums up my thoughts on it quite well. Before, if an area was blacked out, anyone in the area would be vigorously questioned because someone HAD to have cut it in that general vicinity. Now? The AI may scream about it being out or that something may be going on, but security no longer has a need to throw a hissy fit over "illegitimate" actions going on in the area because there is quite a bit of plausible deniability over it naturally occurring vs being actually cut.
-
I must admit I'm not entirely opposed to the AI having crewsimov every single round.
-
The difference between the two is that turning down someone who makes an offer then turning them in carries no OOC consequences. Suiciding after getting mindslaved/thralled/rev'd/culted/etc is a bannable offense.
-
The problem is, you have no way knowing if they'll help you or not---likewise, there aren't a whole lot of compelling reasons to help someone unless you're good IC friends with the person--I realize there's a definite a roleplay component to it, and that's fine and great--but that only goes so far; people are basically selfishly motivated, and when the only thing you have to bribe them with is cash that's more or less usesless...well, you get the idea. There's also the fact that there's absolutely NOTHING you can do to prevent the person from turning you in; whether or not they explicitly agree with your plans---nothing is stopping them from turning around, marching straight to security and having them turned in and likely taken out of the round, permanently.
