  1. If this was opt in and not forced on the player I'd be fine with it, although it's not very great for a static character.
  2. Emphasis mine. At least one other head admin has told me that while you talked with them about it, you outright ignored their input on the edit of the rule and put in your own wording instead. I can't speak for the other other head admin, but I think you're being a bit unfair.
  3. I'd say that's part of getting caught. Most of those antagonists have other ways of escaping many rooms as is, either via their abilities or sheer numbers. If you run into a situation without ideas on what you intend to do and without ways of getting out (and if you're in the vents you typically have a lot of time to consider your actions without interruption) then you can only blame yourself. In isolated, sensible situations its perfectly fine. It's when people are running around preemptively ripping pipes apart and leaving them on the same tile they were placed in to make them look like they're still there that it becomes a problem.
  4. This came about because of someone's actually quite legitimate use of the system being spat back at them in an attempt to get them in trouble by a salty player. In this specific scenario, a swarmer was inside the permabrig area, causing problems and doing its usual thing. It attempted to escape elsewhere via the pipe system to continue causing problems. A pipe was unwrenched and removed to prevent them from getting away, and they were destroyed. This is a vastly different case from 'lol imma just unwrench this pipe preemptively and leave it there just cause'. There was context and proper reasoning/ motivation behind the action of removing the pipe and it was in a relatively contained area. The actions taken made sense and in character.

  9. ...People actually use the QMs office?
  10. Multiple staff members didn't interpret it that way, and it comes across heavily as "If you're well known you can play outside of the rules a bit". Which isn't the case and implies favoritism from staff. Please word your statements better.
  11. I sure hope you aren't accusing staff of allowing specific players to break the rules, because that's not the case. You need to stop.
  12. What it says on the tin. Either hijack antagonists with contractor fizzle out and do nearly nothing, or they gain almost 40+ TC and proceed to hardcore murderbone. I don't believe either option is really viable for us, and it may be best to separate the two from each other.
  13. I think a language barrier is interfering with what you're trying to say. I assume this means that we would somehow fight meta via making posts about it somewhere? We've tried that and other similar methods. The best way to dissipate meta is to do it live and subvert expectations. This changes mindsets and causes players to act as they would in a natural sense, while throwing a wrench into typical behavior. I believe you're trying to say "Tighten up on the enforcement of meta knowledge" This has also been suggested time and time again, and has been discussed at length by heads, staff and players. I do not believe this will be changing anytime soon. You'd be surprised. It's not meant to be 'ideal'. Rounds should not be static and one shouldn't expect anything when going into a new round. Provided they aren't murderbone events, this is actually the better time to push an event to keep the round going, if we so choose. Again, if a round grows stale due to some reason or another, we can and will sometimes step in to bolster it. Sometimes events flop, it happens. But it's far better for us to try than to have the entire playerbase begging us to do something repeatedly throughout the round. I can only roll my eyes and contain the will to mute deadchat for so long while also somewhat sympathizing with them. Sometimes I do things off station in the admin test room for them, but typically I'll still see players cryoing or logging out in a small stream. Personally, when I play extended myself I can always find something to do, either a project or finding another player to roleplay around with--but many, if not most players do not wish to do the same, for various reasons. This seems to be our sole area of agreement. I can agree that we should allow some extended rounds to be left alone and untouched, to let them play out as is without interfering. However, I still feel you lack a lot of thought for both sides, again. We are expected to keep rounds fun and interesting for those involved. If a mass amount of players are bored, it falls to us to decide on what to do about it.
  14. So, being blunt: You're not considering the opposite side of this whatsoever, and it's a bit irritating to me. To start, yes, I agree that some extended rounds should be left as is. No adminbus, so as to allow players to generate their own stories and characters. This is perfectly fine to expect and want. HOWEVER In practice, uninterrupted extended rounds typically end in: 1) Mass amounts of greytiding from bored players. Even some veterans do this. 2) Several players cryoing after a half hour because "nothing is happening" 3) Deadchat complaining about how bored they are and begging admins to spice things up. Two of these issues (numbers two and three) can be ignored by staff for the most part, if we want to (and have the ability to withstand deadchat). Sometimes we do and carry on with our own rounds, but some of us find it rather obnoxious. Add to that, we're here to make sure rounds are fun and enjoyable. Extended rounds are also the best round types for events, as we're far less likely to interrupt actual antags (which often ends in a lot of irritation when that happens). But what we cannot always ignore is the massive amounts of greytiding. Sure, we can swing a hammer and get whined at even more for interrupting someone's idea of fun, but honestly many of us would rather not do that. Instead, we'd rather give players that don't want to find something to do on their own an option... or at least something to watch. Another issue is what some may consider quality of events. I will agree and even admit that sometimes events or minor adminbus don't always contribute very well to an RP environment... but on the other side of the coin, I've actually started massive multi round events that was enjoyed by many players in the past just by chucking something at the wall to see if it sticks. Sometimes the smallest of things we do can lead to bigger things. As for the thing you mention with being tricked into thinking it's a different round type... this is what we call "fighting the meta". Yes, it forces people into a specific mindset, that's exactly what we want to happen. It's not only good to reduce meta, it's also quite interesting to see the after effect of how a round continues after such a situation. In other words, its a situation to roleplay within and consider. False alarms can happen. In short, yes, some rounds should be left alone to happen as is, but there's far more to this that you fail to consider in the slightest, and I'd ask you to do so.
  15. Ah, yes, myself from almost half a decade ago. Kill me.
  16. Most engineers can also fix up an IPC if you ask nicely. Medical serves organics, and robotics serves IPCs. Yes, sometimes it will take a while to get repaired, but you can't always have a speedy recovery.
  17. I've always deleted shrooms if they get too massive as is. People preemptively shrooming the station before any threat is announced are on my list of "people I want to bonk with a mallet" It should be under powergaming, I agree with this.
  18. If we do this I want the ability for IPCs to play ogg files :^)
  19. Legend says that if you squeeze the Maxwell plushie, it makes a chew toy sound
  20. I'm a bit unsure why they don't have access to it. It literally has their names written all over it. It is the most atmos based engine anyone could make.
  21. Bit aggressive there. Let's take it down a bit. As for the topic of CMD, it's simply not feasible to enforce. I want CMD very much so, but good lord good luck trying to enforce it. It would be near impossible across 150 players (peak hours) to manage. There is also the matter that staff is very divided on wanting it as a thing to begin with, for various (and I must admit, some legitimate) reasons. Yes, we take player and staff opinion into matters, not just one sole arbiter that doesn't even understand what they're talking about. Please consider what you're saying--as a mentor, no less--before plastering it willy nilly on the forums.
  22. the golden source of the universe would not have created evil if it did not have evil inside itself to create.
  23. I think an admin might have been having a chuckle with you. Just tell them to eat a dingbat, that usually works At least, until they send spiders after you. Then you run Although I will say that, while this isn't explicitly a horror game, elements of such are littered throughout, and it's something you have to adjust to. An in game player guide isn't the most feasible thing either, due to the nature of the game, but our mentor team is well equipped and happy to answer any questions you may have. And if they aren't, I revoke their supply of bread crumbs and they go hungry
  24. Don't tempt me with a good time
