NOTED! THANKS! This makes so much sense given the mechanics of talking in space! Issue closed!

I'd like to propose that my title on the forums be changed from "Member" to "Unnofficial Suggestion Generator" This is important...because things

I've gotten in the habit of ALWAYS putting leg cuffs on any prisoner I'm transporting a decent distance, especially if I'm alone, because one slip and the prisoner can (and will) take off and you might lose em. Problem is the only way to do this is to let go of them, stand a space away, and throw the energy bolas at them. If you do it while right next to them, you hit yourself, and you CAN'T just slap leg cuffs on someone the same as you do with handcuffs. Can a mechanic similar to how handcuffs are applied be added to leg cuffs? Possibly also make it so you CAN throw leg cuffs on someone who is on the ground (stunned) instead of needing to wait till they stand up.

Ahhh...I gotcha. I wasn't saying this job shouldn't exist because the Warden already does this, I was saying it should exist because the Warden could use the help lol If the senior officer helps officers understand how to do their job properly it would still take stress off the Warden. I even sort of already play the role of senior officer when I'm pod pilot because I'm experienced in security, if someone has a question and they aren't getting a response from the HOS or Warden cuz they are dead or busy, I'll help out. On that note, if you are experienced at whatever role you are playing, nothing is stopping you at the beginning of the round from radioing "Hey everyone, if you are new to this department or have any questions, I can help you out." beats the opposite side of people who shame others for not knowing how to do a job they've never done. Worked with a new chemist the other day who admitted he was new over comms and instead of doctors helping direct the chemist, they instead just shamed and complained about them. How's that help?
-
Sorta already the Warden's job...but as I've advocated in the past, the Warden could use some damned help. A good HOS and Warden teach good habits. Bad ones lead to bad ones. I actually specifically work sec alot to try and instill sec with good habits, even when I'm not HOS or Warden.

RIP to the 5 karma anyone has spent on Barber ???

I play pod pilot more than any other class so I'm intimately familiar with it's quirks. When in space you can hear someone who is talking directly next to you...unless you are inside a space pod. I CAN hear people who are right next to my pod, but they CANNOT hear me. So when I run into someone in space, I have 3 ways to communicate from inside my pod. PDA, common comms, or creative emotes (/me maneuvers the pod up and down like it's nodding). I mostly /me beeps at people. Now...as much fun as I have attempting to be a mime with a space pod, is it possible to just make it so I can talk to people who are directly next to my pod? If you want some IC justification, just do a PR saying space pods are now equipped with loud speakers and do whatever needs to be done code wise to make people hear me. Tadah.

To help support this... Here's my process when I need to get out of my pod to apprehend a potential antag. Remove backpack into hand. Remove jet pack from exo suit alot and equip to backpack slot. Remove taser from backpack and put in exo slot. Use rest command to drop backpack so I can have 2 free hands (drop command doesn't work in pod). I now have at my disposal a taser, cuffs and keys in my pockets (if I don't lock the pod it may get stolen), and the stuff on my security belt. Need to leave the rest of my gear (meds, extra cuffs, second gun...cigs) in my bag on the floor of my pod for the sake of having 2 hands. So yes...please for a QoL Improvement, make jet packs usable from exo slot.

It didnt START as added slots, but we are talking about it and it's developed into that. This is how great ideas are born. Go with the flow

Alright now I'm mad and require such a jetpack for my pilot lol

Ohhhhh....i didn't know nukie jetpacks fit in bags. Fuggin syndicate and their advanced technology. Bastrards lol

Permanent Prisoner Job and Perma brig upgrades
ZN23X replied to bigfatbananacyclops's topic in Suggestions
Also...putting the l̶a̶z̶y̶ boring warden thing aside, I am FOR a perma enhancement. Larger. More to do for prisoners. All of that. Possibly more security features to make them harder to break out. Even if it was just a second layer of grille around the exterior, kinda like with the secure armory. -
Sort of like the various RP heavy jobs. IAA and Magistrate don't eliminate security, they just add another layer.
-
I guess we can agree that antags think they have it rough, sec thinks they have it rough, and anyone who works any other role thinks they have it rough. Just a matter perspective and opinion. I've brought this off topic. I apologize. I'll shut up now.

Permanent Prisoner Job and Perma brig upgrades

If the Warden job is boring then you arent doing enough. I think it's the most stressful job on the station. Between processing, keeping records up to date, keeping an eye on the armory and evidence storage, distributing stuff from the armory when needed, keeping an ear on comms for cries for help, trying to help coordinate officers, and making sure prisoners aren't breaking out. There is no job on the station that has more responsibilities. It's alot more than just waiting for prisoners to process. A good warden is the difference between sec running smoothly and not. ESPECIALLY keeping records up to date. -
I mean...they've gotta deal with all the advanced equipment and abilities that security has that antags don't even have access to. And they have to deal with chuckle fucks on top of that. So unfair.
-
I surrender. Make antags lives easier, they've got it rough. Especially the ones who powergame like crazy to murder all of sec.
-
If you want to argue ERTs shouldn't be pulled from deadchat with an advantage from the information they've absorbed while being a ghost, you could argue we shouldn't do the same with mid round antags either. Then you'd eliminate two features that are designed to give relief to the ghost population. Spawning a blob, spiders, or xenos mid round technically gives struggling antags an advantage but it is an attempt to allow the round to carry on and be interesting. If you don't have ERT after all or most of sec is dead then you'd just be forced to shuttle call and end the round. Consider ERT the antags REWARD for kicking security's ass. Now they get to see how they fare against a stronger foe.

As pod pilot I deliberately carry around my jetpack on my exo and remove my backpack to equip it when needed. If I couldn't do this I wouldn't be able to carry around all the gear I need. 5 slots in a sec belt, 2 pockets, and 1 gun slot on the exo doesn't cover it. But yes it would be nice if jetpacks at least had a note when you examine them saying "You must equip this on your back to use it" or something like that.

They'd play a similar role as the Warden does to the HOS. For the time being you can always go to the HOP and request such a job until it gets implemented.

I am just looking for some sort of enforcement. Again if I don't do my job properly as security I can get job banned or banned outright. Here's an example: late night round a week or two ago, a bit of a custom event. A random antag would be made extremely powerful. It was late so I ghosted and observed. The 2 antags were shadowlings, one eventually also became a traitor (more powerful). They spent the ENTIRE round hiding in lockers in maint hoping victims would wander their way. Server having a population off less than 50, they had very few opportunities. They did nothing all round. Did those two players get banned from playing shadowling or are they just allowed to repeat that snooze fest the next time they roll shadowling? There is a punishment for playing security wrong that forces security to raise the standard of how they play in fear of being job banned. I regularly get boops that interupt whatever I'm doing mid round for what usually ends up just being an antags I justifiably arrested who complained to an admin about it cuz they are mad I caught them. If there is a punishment for antagonists being boring then people will try to be less boring in fear that they may be banned from playing antag. If an admin sees a vampire hiding in a locker in maint for 15+ minutes, boop them and tell them to get off their ass. If I can be interrupted while trying to run security to verify if I'm playing correctly, they can handle being interrupted while twiddling their thumbs in a locker.

+2 *spawn at arrivals, click OOC, auto-accent* "Chakax reportsss. Whatsss our sstatusssss?" If I read "Chakax reports. Whats our status?" my entire round is instantly ruined lol

Working security primarily, I have regularly gotten booped by admins asking me why I did something, whether it's arresting, imprisoning, executing, etc. I've gotten warned once or twice because I did accidentally mess something up, but in most instances after I've explained myself the admin either says "Okay you are good" or just stops booping me to which I assume I'm good and they've moved onto something more important. I know this is all to prevent security from being abusive due to the power they wield. There are very specific rules and SOP in place that are to be adhered to. My question. Are antagonists being held to the same standards? I'm not actually talking about murderboning antags, I know people who push it too far on that end are dealt with, I'm talking about the opposite spectrum. From the rules: "Rule 6: Play Antagonists Responsibly Remember the goal of an Antagonist is to make the round exciting, fun, and dangerous, within limits. You should make an effort to add to the round, as opposed to simply completing your objectives and carrying on normally." I'm frequently in rounds, especially with particular antags (vampires, cult, sometimes traitors) where the round is boring as hell because the antags are just stealthily completing their objectives but doing nothing or little to make the round interesting. Are these antags getting booped by admins telling them to pick up the pace because they aren't fulfilling what the rules describe they are meant to do? Are they threatened with an antag ban when they don't perform up to expectations? These are all things that security is threatened with and we all have in the back of our minds every round. This concern spawns from me playing too many rounds where either nothing or almost nothing goes on for over an hour...sometimes even till the shuttle...and many people run to cryo because they are bored. Aside from rounds like this where I'm in the presence of others who enjoy RP, these rounds are the absolute worst. At the end when I see the antags objectives come up I just blink and think to myself "Oh...that wasn't extended?" To paraphrase a wise man wearing makeup and a purple suit: This station deserves a better class of criminals. Help us out here people. Admins...start enforcing ALL the aspect of rule 6...not just the side where people are being excessive. Antags, try to be more creative. You don't get a damned thing for getting green text other than possibly some self satisfaction for uh..."winning". Nobody is keeping track of how many times you've won (unless you are keeping track of yourself?), there's no stats here, only memories. Nobody can name the countless traitors who wait till the shuttle arrives to quickly break into the captain's office and steal his gun. BE. MORE. INTERESTING!
