Screw it though...you are right. I am just salty Shitcurity and we need to give power gaming antags and greytide as much of an advantage as possible because they are the good guys. Hell let's get rid of the rest command cool down while we are at it cuz dodging lasers and tasers is fun. Get rid of any other restraints they've put in place to prevent power gaming. Restrictions are unecessary and only lead to ruining everyones fun. I'm done, I've vented. This post won't change anything. I'll suck it up n deal with it like I have to with the rest of the power gaming antics. In a way it drives me, so bring it
-
Doesn't work in maint or other places you can't pull up the floor. The exact places powergamers will lure you to to take advantage of the lube because, again, they are powergamers and they will literally take advantage of every mechanic of the game to gain an edge. They know exactly where to spray lube in order to make sure I slip into a disposal and go through an endless carousel trying to get to them. Again, I shouldn't have to carry around a crow bar, floor tiles (cuz ya I could technically lie down tiles in maint as opposed to cross barring them up and we can get in an epic battle of me putting down and removing tiles over and over till they run out of lube), and/or drying agent to counter this (the riveting battle of them wetting the floor and me drying it till both our bottles run emtpy!) Or maybe just I'll let lethally injure anyone who uses it in this fashion cuz it's the easiest way I can stop them and wait till *I* get yelled at for it, cuz that's a counter...I won't kill em, just hurt em enough so they require medical attention before they die. Then I'll get perma brigged and possibly job banned for attempted murder and they'll get to chucklefuck the rest of the round after possibly serving a work place hazard sentence, but only after they spend more time than they'd serve in the cell arguing why they shouldn't be sentenced. And I promise you the people who abuse the lube will cry to the admins immediately if I step out of bounds. Break and take advantage of every rule as far as they can to the edge. Makes the game fun for everyone (which is actually an antags job, not just to be as much of an a-hole as possible so they can laugh thier zits off). Plus side is these people usually get perma banned at some point for pushing it too far too much. There is solace in that.

This was excellent lol

The reason I've offered is because it is mostly just abused by powergamers. If powergamers didn't abuse it I wouldn't even be bringing this up. Same reason they had to add a cool down to the rest command, so power gamers could stop pretending they are Neo dodging bullets. I haven't been killed by it that I can recall...maybe once. This isn't some random rage post after a match, this is something I've thought about over time after multiple matches experiencing people using it. I've just only seen it abused by chucklefuck antags and greytide. Maybe make it so the duration of space lube is shortened? Make it so you CAN actually walk on space lubed floors withoit slipping? I don't know.

Just unlocked Blueshield recently and so far every shift has been a uniquely different experience This one tipped the scale...literally. I begin my shift, get my stuff from my locker, drag my locker up to the bridge because I rarely have to go back to my office. Any other shift by the time I get to the bridge the captain is there to greet me with the pinpointer and spare captain ID. Not this shift. I wait outside the captains quarters got 5-10 min. Nothing on comms from him, there IS a captain on the manifest, other people in command are questioning where he is on comms. Just as the NT rep shows up the captain opens his quarters. We go in. He's very clearly a noob captain. Stuff from his locker is all over the place like he's been checking it out, nuke disk is still on desk, nothing is in order. NT rep gives him the disk and tells him he needs to hang onto it, I grab the spare ID and pinpointer. He isn't speaking at all through all of this. I proceed to awkwardly sit in his office with him for a good 10 minutes with no conversation at all, keeping command updated via comms that he's just sitting at his desk smoking and eating donuts. I get hungry so I decide to grab a donut. Captain finally speaks. "TRAITOR! RENAULT! TRAITOR BETWEEN US!" (I was in between him and Renault). Baffled, I'm like "Huh?!"...I go get the box of donuts from the bridge and when I return with them. He apologizes and thanks me. At this point I'm super psyched he's started talking to me so I'm like "I know...these donuts are sooo good, right?" And I offer to get hot chocolate to go with them. After the hot chocolate the captain is like "I need a stiff drink" I say "alright I'll escort you to the bar" "Nonsense, I'll go alone" Whatever. I follow him anyways, cuz it's my job. I observe him from the back of the bar and command is still questioning his presence, I continue to inform them of what's going on. He gets a bottle of whiskey and returns to his quarters. I go back through the bridge and the HOP and NT rep are in there. I say "what's up" and they inform me we need to demote the captain. Theye ask me to go get him. I drag him to the bridge. "What is the meaning of this" NT rep "you've been found unfit to serve as Captain and we are demoting you" "TREASON! I AM THE CAPTAIN OF THIS STATION!" NT rep "You are captain but not king, central has authority over you and has sent orders for your demotion" They proceed to try to remove his gear and he pulls out his rapier and runs around the bridge preparing to resist forcefully. I tase him and cuff him. While they take his stuff off I go to locker room to get civvy gear. When I get back all he has left is his jumpsuit. RD has showed up at this point. I remove his jumpsuit and BAM! He instantly becomes fat. (Captains jumpsuit must be one of those outfits that isn't programmed to show fatness) So now we have a fat guy in nothing but small white underwear and long socks on the bridge People start screaming, the HOP is like "OH GOD THERE'S SOME THINGS YOU CAN'T UNSEE!!" I say "Well...he did just sit in his office eating donuts...". The now former captain is offended by this. I try to put the outfit I got for him on him but it doesn't fit cuz he's too fat. RD is like "I'll fix this" and runs off. The HOP is pretty much trying to claw his own eyes out while we wait, RD shows back up and is like "I have something that suits you better than a captains uniform" and proceeds to out a chicken suit on him. I emote a ROFL as I'm dying laughing IRL, tell the RD he's spot on (well done Ares!) he grins and laughs. We all have a good laugh and I drag the former captain off the bridge. I got to my office and send a station wide saying "Our old captain spent the whole shift sitting in his office smoking, drinking, and eating donuts. Central found him unfit to lead so he's been demoted, all hail our new acting captain, (insert HOPs name here...can't remember)!" The only thing that saddens me about this is I'm fairly positive whoever the dude was who was captain is gonna get a job ban even though it led to one of the most interesting and memorable shifts I've had. I hope he was some sort of an antag with an objective to be a bad captain, if so, well done sir. If not, know your job ban was not in vain. You were very entertaining. Here's to you, fat lazy captain. You were both the worst and best captain I'll ever serve.

Stuff like this has led to me doing what I refer to as "ban denial therapy" where I read ban denials and am happy knowing the admins are working as hard if not harder than I am in security to try to clean up the garbage. Alright...I'll let others speak now. What stories do you all have dealing with Shitcurity or power gaming antags? Share!
-
Story three. I find a potential Vox antag in space. Doesn't respond to me at all, I warn I'll have to detain him if he doesn't, I end up detaining and bringing him in. Nothing on him. Released. Later in the round there are endless grates built outside my podbay, only way to remove them is to go through airlock and deal with them from the outside. On my way to the airlock I find and unknown Vox, same color as the one from space, grating off sec maint. Detained. Had contraband this time to sentence them. So...a mistake I'll never make again, I know I'm not supposed to remove his tank. However, his mask is making him an unknown. I mistakenly remove it thinking it's more like a helmet. This guy hasent talked AT ALL, makes no indication that he can't breath, doesn't try to alert me in any way. After he is brigged a Borg mentions he doesn't have a mask on, I grab a regular mask and put it on him not realizing Vox have different masks and he ends up needing medical treatment. 5 min later I get a message from an admin angirly asking me why I removed a Vox's mask and I explain the whole situation. I got off with a warning only because I TRIED to put a mask on them later. I assume the antag bitched at an admin despite making zero effort to notify me IC that they needed a mask. I didn't bring that up with the admin cuz the admin was pretty angry and I didn't want to make them angrier by trying to defend myself in any way. I was just super apologetic. Should I have reported him for failing to communicate anything about his mask? What about the griefing by making endless grates outside my pod bay? I don't even know.
-
Story two. A potential antag that is unusually cooperative when I catch him. I decide not to tase and cuff him, he agrees to a search. As soon as I begin taking off his backpack (so they know I have the window pulled up blocking my view) they proceed to knock me down and kill me. Pretty sure I should have reported that one but was fairly new at the time so I didn't know I could or should.
-
My first story...how bout an antag I find in space, I hit them with a few lasers from my pod and they use the rest command and /deathgasp emote to pretend they've died. I exit my pod to retrieve the body, approach them, they jump up and kill me. Since I've dealt with this multiple times and dies to it multiple times, I've now grown wise to this and hide behind my pod while examining to see if they are dead. I cannot examine them while inside the pod. One time I literally waited in my pod telling a dude I know he's not dead for 10+ min until he got bored and finally got up n tried fighting again until he actually died.

Working sec most of the time I thought it'd be interesting to share stories of some of the crap we deal with. Maybe it will give people a better understanding of why we have an itchy trigger finger sometimes. If I tase you, cuff you, then discover you've done nothing wrong, I would have wasted a few moments of your time and release you. If I don't, there is an off chance you will kill me and destroy my body. Maybe people who deal with Shitcurity can also share thier stories so we can use them to try to clean up things on our end. This will go well ? Commence dumping buckets of salt!

I ask because the majority of the time I see anyone using space lube, it's just some power gamer taking advantage of every mechanic of the game they can to get the upper hand in combat. Oh and OCCASIONALLY a prank from the clown or mime, but mostly used as a lethal weapon by antags who would probably instantly cry to an admin about me using excessive force if I disabled them with lethals even though I have no way of reaching them due to thier shittery. I should try have to carry around a crow bar, floor tiles, or a spray bottle with drying agent as security. A greytide antag shouldn't feel more dangerous to me than a nuclear operative. Back to the initial question though, does is actually serve a function like for engineering or is its sole purpose for slipping people, and mostly only utilized by the worst people on the server who are eventually gonna get perma banned for pushing too far too much anyways? This is why we can't have nice things ? Full discourse, I work sec 99% of the time (quite literally) so obviously my experience with space lube is bias from that perspective. I'm sure people who just screw around every match till they roll antag love it...also if a chemist can please deliver me a bucket of salt ASAP I'd love it, cuz I need it ?

I've updated the "job request form" I created to give to the HOP. The previous one entailed a lot of work on the HOPs end because it required manual permissions to both medbay and sec to be given. This is both time consuming and I've had several instances (honestly more often than not) that I wasn't even given all the proper permissions and needed to wait in the HOP line again to get it fixed. I've now realized that the Brig Physician has all the proper access required so the new form just has the HOP changing the requestors job to Brig Physician, then a custom name of Medbay Guard. Easier for the HOP, HOPs line moves faster, less margin for error. Everyone wins. The Brig Physician thing might also be useful for anyone who might be working on actually programming this class into the game. Some sort of copy n paste thing. I dunno shit about coding so maybe I'm blowing smoke. Hope it helps Heres the new form:. Copy n paste it on a piece of paper n hand it to the HOP. Also helps to get permission from the CMO and HOS first depending on who the HOP is. Employment Application[br] Name: [field][br] Rank: [field][br] NanoTrasen Science Station Cyberiad [br] [br] New Job Title: Medbay Guard[br] Supervisors: Head of Security and Chief Medical Officer[br] Role: Patrols Medbay and protect it from any threats. Guard is NOT to leave Medbay and assist security with threats outside of Medbay except for extreme emergencies. The safety of Medbay and its occupants should be the top priority. Threats should be detained or neutralized as necessary, detained threats should be escorted to security for proper processing.[br] Equipment: Medbay Guard is to be equipped with the same basic gear as a Security Officer has at the beginning of the shift, as well as both a Security and Medical headset. Further security equipment at HOS's or Warden's discretion.[br] Standard Operating Procedure: Medbay Guard is required to follow the same guidelines as both a Security Officer AND Medical Doctor, prioritizing Security SOP over Medical SOP. I 100% agree with this. When I first started playing the game I played Paramedic a lot, always had a defib on my back, enough supplies in my belt to heal up critical victims, and it was super exciting for me to try to get to people in time to revive them. Once I discovered SR it took the thrill out of being a paramedic and working medbay in general. I don't think SR is going away ever..but maybe it DOES need a time limit like a defib (longr than a defib...but similar...10-15 min?). Like maybe once the body starts rotting a bloating its too late. Which would make sense. Sorta weird to be like "This body is heavily decomposed...wait...SCIENCE!! All better now. Lets forget your blood has coagulated, rigor has set in, and your skin and organs are rotting. Maybe we need a new post for this.

Lookit that...already in the works...mah bad. Keep up the good work!

I'm sure everyone has noticed a trend that...naturally...as the server becomes more heavily populated, various departments lack the resources to deal with it. Should there be some sort of guideline for opening more jobs? I've played rounds where it is announced that more job slots have been opened, don't know which jobs, but maybe set some sort of a standard for this. Obviously more sec officers and doctors are necessary for larger pops, but what about other roles? Like the individual roles. Working sec alot I know sec could benefit from an 2nd warden and detective when populations are too high. Would even help prevent things from completely falling apart when one goes SSD. Would make it so HOS could spend more time delegating and less time trying to be a swiss army knife filling whatever voids the sec force has. Not familiar enough with other departments to know who else could benefit from more slots opening. Thoughts? ALSO: EXTRA CHEFS SO EVERYONE DOESN'T NEED TO LIVE OFF VENDING MACHINES. ALL. THE. TIME!
-
I sorta like this idea because properly updated sec records are the difference between sec running smoothly and not. Though I feel like it's the responsibility of everyone in Sec to make sure this is being done. I think maybe the brig doc could play a larger role to help keep the brig running smoothly. What is stopping the brig doc from making sure prisoners are in thier cells safely or sitting at the front desk updating records? (aside from lack of robustness...which isn't exclusive to brig docs) What about possibly opening a second warden slot when populations are super high? I know there would be an intergalactic battle for who gets the gloves, but larger populations might benefit from more than one warden. Might need to start a whole new thread on that in general. What jobs need to be duplicated at peak populations?
-
My thought on this class isn't so much to deal with greytide...tho they can if needed...it's to have someone who is more well equipped to deal with the inevitable "SEC GET TO SURGERY, (insert dangerous thing here) IS KILLING US!" Same thoughts at Tim...it's about protecting one of the most vital areas on the station. Especially on a server with a population that, at its peak, severely stresses the resources of both medbay and security. ...and obviously adding another job option for the same reason. For that reason I like the idea of exploring this for other depts as well. Cargo comes to mind.
-
Exactly. Me getting sec access is just for the sake of getting the gear needed to play the role because it doesn't actually exist right now. I don't know what it takes to add stuff to the game but a locker in the exam room with whatever gear necessary with the guard spawning in the exam room or lobby would be sufficient. Equipment I've been running with is: Security belt- baton, pepperspray, flash, cuffs, energy bola Other gear- med AND sec headset, armor, sec gas mask, sec HUD, extra cuffs in my bag. Appearance- white jumpsuit, jack boots, fingerless gloves, white cap. The armor n gas mask might be a bit overboard but it helps complete the black on white look hahaha
-
So...after playing this role a few times here's my review so far. A few shifts I got to play the role I intended, patrolling medbay, so far I've stopped 1 antag who was attacking someone in medbay, stopped a few scuffles, and arrested a few people who were wanted and just strolled into medbay. I keep being partially terrified someone is gonna complain to an admin about my "fake security class" and I'm gonna get hammered for valid hunting or something. I did spend a few shifts just literally helping where needed medically as there were no threats to medbay all shift. Getting access is sometimes a pain in the ass...especially if the HOS isn't familiar with me. It'd be alot more fun to play if I didn't need to pull teeth to get access some rounds, half the time I'm waiting in thevery HOPs line and hearing about something awful happening in medbay that I WOULD be helping get with bit can't yet. Hopefully if I and others play the role enough it'll give reason to add it (dunno if anyone but me has tried...)
-
So I've played this role a few times now. The difficulty of getting access (especially security access) varies depending on who is the HOS and HOP. While the goal of this class is to have an additional job to apply for when nothing bit civilian is available, it's far easier to join as a sec officer and just request medbay and surgery access with the title change. If you DO need to apply as a civilian I reccomend PDAing rhe CMO and HOS for permission while you wait in line and give the HOP your PDA as proof that theye gave approve. Just a note for anyone else who tries to take it for a spin.

I sort of like the idea tho it sounds like a Blueshield who isn't as well equipped with the added perk/disadvantage (depending in your view) of being 1 heartbeat from being in full command (which is NOT thenough best position for a command newbie). I feel CMO or CE are better for that as thier areas can be fully functional without them. As for HOP stress n server pop, I saw someone playing as the HOPs assistant (obviously a civilian turned into the role) last night n thought THAT was a good idea. Traitorous HOP being 1 heartbeat away from being captain can also be part of the excitement. Sort of like a Rouge AI. Also pilot sometimes sits n watches cameras too...more access n less time consuming than flying around peeking through windows lol
-
I definitely plan to join as a civilian and play this role any time the server pop is high and sec is fully staffed. I can't take any credit because the role was Tim's idea, I just ran with it. So thanks Tim Selfishly probably just a way for me to continue playing sec even when sec is full since it's all I really enjoy lol Also want to note, the request form is a bit wordy and I've tried playing this role twice, both times I was turned into a role called Medbay Guard with just paramedic access. HOP was wicked busy so I didn't bother getting back in line either time. Anyone planning to play this it'd be worth making the HOP aware you need your access manually altered and the access requirements are noted on the sheet.
-
I'm all for anything that makes people with holoparasites have to kill each other rather than people without holoparasites lol
-
Alright so I kind of went overboard with this. For anyone interested in playing this role, maybe taking it for a "test run" to see if its worth the developers time, here is a pre made form you can copy and paste to paper and hand to the HOP to request this job designation. Paperwork includes what the role entails, SOP, access, equipment, as well as the process the HOP needs to follow to create the job (its a custom job so it needs a little tweaking to have a medical badge to it instead of appearing to be an unknown or civilian on SEC HUDs, I chose paramedic because it appears as a medical badge, but a unique one that differentiates from standard medical staff). I believe this technically should be a protected job that cannot be a traitor so it'd be nice if nobody abused this job for the sake of getting security access as a traitor until the devs can decide whether to make it a real job or not. Abuse it and I imagine not only will it not become a real job, but it probably won't be allowed through the HOP anymore either. This is why we can't have nice things Anyhoo...heres the form...copy n paste, lets take this job for a spin! [br][br] I hereby declare that I understand the functions and restrictions of this job and will follow them to the best of my abilities.[br] Signature: [field][br][br] FOR HEAD OF PERSONNEL USAGE[br] For job creation, first switch job title to Paramedic to give the employee the proper badging on SEC HUDs, then change to custom job named "Medbay Guard". After this is done the access needs to be manually altered or the Medbay Guard will just have Paramedic access. Access Required: Medbay, Surgery, Mourge, Brig, Security, Weapon Permit, Holding Cells, and Maintenance. The card's skin should be medical.[br] Authorization[br] Name: [field][br] Rank: [field][br][br] If authorized, please sign here, [field], and stamp the document with the Department Stamp.[br][br] Guidelines that must be followed. If they are not followed, this form is void and illegal.[br] The department in which the requester is requesting access must first be contacted, and the chief (acting or otherwise) must have been talked to and have authorized this request. If any criminal activity is done with the help of this extra access, this form will be immediately void and unlawful. If the chief of the affected department wishes this form void, this form is immediately void and unlawful. [br] [br] EDIT: Needed to alter the order of the "HOP instructions" a bit. Tried doing this twice now n both times I've been given back a card with the name "Medbay Guard" with only paramedic access.

I primarily play sec, and again comparing this to brig doc, I would love to play this as an alternate role maybe after a really stressful sec round to give me a bit of a break. Hell on larger pop I might just start going to the HOP n requesting this role sorta like gateway explorer. Basic sec access to get gear, and whatever access a medical doctor has at very least, if not all of medbay (aside from CMOs office). I'm gonna give this a go even if nothing else comes of it. Thanks for the idea.
