  1. Player vs player, a 10% brute reduction means one is objectively stronger and going to win in a toolbox-vs-toolbox match or the like. After 10 hits, they'll be in crit, but you won't. Lore is not justification to make someone that objectively superior. It not being a "competitive" game does not mean we're going to ignore such balance issues - especially when there are so many competitive aspects to the game. Making one race objectively superior in combat would be a terrible move to the overall balance of the game. Skrell have a few very minor plusses and minuses. Headpockets, but are able to be murdered by ethanol quicker. Minor, flavourful things that have very little impact on combat.
  2. Adding such a bonus with no downsides would be just silly. Their tails sticking out does not counteract this - as many other races have similar problems, and this has no impact on non-stealth antags.
  3. Jesus Christ that is sexy.
  4. Yes, there's plenty of stuff that could be and should be cleared out of the code. That doesn't mean we have to make things worse. Being mute doesn't actually stop people making noise when they sneeze, IRL. If you want to accurately portray someone unable to speak, then there's nothing stopping you from roleplaying it yourself. Demanding that the code be changed so that you can be lazy and have mechanics enforce how you want to roleplay is frankly selfish. It is not worth the coders having to account for that code with any change to muting, disabilities, spawning, mutadone, etc, just so you have mechanics to play it that way. This would all be easily resolved by just not using the say command, rather than making it other people's problem.
  5. That's pretty much why. I don't want to have to constantly determine whether or not a "real reason" is sufficient each time. Especially without any guidelines as to what that constitutes.
  6. This won't be happening. Allowing players to determine a "real reason" to bash someone into crit is a terrible idea. I simply do not trust the playerbase as a whole to do that. Of all the workplaces I've been in, I've never seen anyone bash someone to death over something like stealing a PDA. That's just insane. Even school children don't generally engage in that degree of psychotic violence, despite the numerous thefts and pranks and the like. As always, admins can give permission for such things, but that degree of violence should in general be left to antags.
  7. The simpler solution here to me would be just not to use the say command. Adding a stack of code that will need to be considered every time there's a change to genetics or mutadone or the like just seems a waste of time or effort when the same could be achieved by simple not using say.
  8. Very much the same myself, I personally just don't feel it's as possible to get that across in a multiplayer platform with ~100 people, which is a shame. Otoh, I've seen some pretty...LRP stuff in PnP too! That's great to hear, as that's exactly what we're aiming for! The fact still remains though that some rounds/characters/code/etc will be higher, and some lower, so we're left with a compromise of never being -quite- what everyone likes. The other way I've thought of it is enforce LRP standards, and encourage HRP standards. What those exactly are and mean though I've been discussing with people for almost 5 years now with no end in sight.
  9. LRP, MRP, HRP, are all pretty nebulous terms. For me, and the original intention was, was to be higher RP than things like Hippy, and lower than Bay. That holds true to me for sure (even if some people act a bit more hippy like, and some people more bay like).
  10. They are not, I can assure you.
  11. The amount of jobbans on captains says otherwise.
  12. In theory I like it, in practice, I'm not sure how it would work. Some ability to at least be resistant if near a wall and walking would be nice, but I don't think even that should be able to completely stop people being sucked out airlocks, etc.
  13. Oh, there we go. Thanks.
  14. You've been banned for the last 5 months - how do you look at paradise at the moment ICly?
  15. as per the github: Discussions about this have raised some serious issues that we're currently unable to come up with solutions to. First of all, codewise, this will be a nightmare to maintain compared to every other language, being so unique. Considering this with anything to do with cuffing, hand damage, silencing/muting, visual range, vacuum, and things we haven't considered, maintainability will be a serious problem. The level of snowflaking required in this code just seems excessive for a secondary language, none of which so far have any such issues. Secondly, balance and gameplaywise, this seems to be the powergaming language of choice. Even with nerfs, its unique qualities make it superior to other languages, doing something none of the others can. Unless it is nerfed so heavily to be practically useless, it's the clear choice for a useful language, leaving the others to be flavor. With the above in mind - the more people who select this, the more powerful it becomes, furthering the problems of it as "best choice" language to take. If very few people take it, then the issues with a highly snowflaked piece of code become more of a problem, which become a nightmare to maintain for something that few people are using. Unless a solution can be found to these, we'll be closing this one, as we're not seeing a way it can conceivably get around these core issues
  16. @Trubus Seems easy enough to make as a PR, tbh. Care to remake this as a poll so people can say if they're interested/to attract the attention of someone willing to code it?
  17. For me, a lot of the fun (moreso with mindswap tbh) is proving who the real one is, or trying to convince people who you really are, especially without ID. It allows for some amazing RP moments.
  18. I think it's actually a good chance to define your character and all that - how would they react to being transformed, how do they act to distinguish themselves, etc? Do they care about their physical appearance, do they hate being transformed into someone they dislike, etc.
  19. Please try to keep things on track - a discussion about HRP etc is better for another thread. Keep this one about the transformation sting, please.
  20. This -somewhat- exists. There is a "play sound" or the like addition (can't check what it is exactly now), that will show whatever message you type to anyone who can "hear" whatever object you use it on. It's kinda shit and could use a lot of improvement as above.
  21. I'd love it if it were for assisting purposes - but as per other threads, anyone with access in there often does surgery regardless. If they want to actually assist/watch, I think they can just tailgate people in the door.
  22. Yup. Surgery I don't think so - genetics, viro, chem, don't get surgery access. If they can open surgery doors then they can do surgery no problem, which should be reserved for doctors. Hell yeah, making the lowest-ranked people to the grunt work and deliveries is kinda standard in workplaces, so that works well. A bar assistant would be kinda weird - there's really only 1 access flag for them. I really don't know what access you would give to a service assistant at all...it's also not really something an assistant is needed for. Bar, chef, etc, are all good newbie roles as it is. Cargo assistant I don't think is necessary, cargo tech is already pretty minimal and a great role for newbies. The main thing with a sec cadet would be the SOP etc about arrests...lots more to think about so generally a better thing to leave. There's been ideas floated around it plenty times before but it's never gotten very far sadly, as I think there's a lot of merit there.
  23. NO DO IT NOW OMG WHY R U TAKING SO LONG TO DO THIS YOU R SO INCOMPETENT More seriously, I think basic access - enough to get in the front doors, is all thats needed. Engineers just need enough for a toolbox and belt. Medical need...enough to drag people into a sleeper/cryo? Science need...? Service need...? Sec Cadets etc I'd honestly leave for a separate time, as thats a whole different kettle of fish.
