  1. I love the idea! You get what you pay for. This could be applied to a -lot- of things. Failure chance for a low cost. Brilliant.
  2. Markolie refactored emags about a year ago they're plain old unlimited use. Phew. I was worried I'd use it up The self-destructing thing is a good idea, I don't know if it'd make them too good for the cost though. It occurs to me a 1tc 1use emag in some ways replaces C4 as a single-use door opener. Hence maybe 2tcs. There's a big jump from 1-2 tcs sadly.
  3. Very much so, but if you're a traitor, SoP is not really an issue.
  4. An idea occurred to me with emags. Currently the emag is a decently expensive, 1000000 use item. Often you don't need it for anywhere near that many uses. For 1 or 2 TC, a single use emag would be great for suddenly needing to get through a door, or if you only need to emag 1 thing. Not sure about the cost - at 1 tc, it'd most likely be better than the normal emag unless you intend to emag a lot of things. So thought I'd post here for discussion on costs, use, etc.
  5. Without authorisation, containment, etc, laying eggs around is very much self antagging. Even Weyland-Yutani would think it's a bad idea. This will most likely need to be revised a fair bit as implants are tweaked and added, but so far it looks pretty good. Creating classes (combat, etc), is a good way to do this as any new ones can just be added to them simply.
  6. This hasn't come up as a problem that I've seen. Idiot-proofing laws is useless, the internet will always breed a better idiot. The solution is not to be an idiot, and if someone is, they get a jobban.
  7. I see no reason for aesthetic prizes to rely on science at all. ...no idea what else is in that isn't aesthetic though.
  8. Tranquillite I really like as a name. The mech if I remember was a bit stupidly fast, and the rcd could be used for quite a bit of trolling. Imo it should self destruct if you speak while inside it.
  9. Perhaps add something as to how/where the order forms are to be kept? If the machine prints outna form every tine you order something, it seems logical their would be sop to do with where its stored in case of audits. And possibly something about the hop (nt rep too?) being allowed to demand to see the forms to know who authorised the supermatter crate etc.
  10. Brilliant. Add emagging an APC in there too! I've always wanted to try to frame my target. Leave an esword lying around, robust them once they pick it up.
  11. IIRC blueshields got combat gloves because I thought they sounded cool and match the uniform etc. Then I found out later they were insulated. I figured it might help them hack their way into a place a head is locked in? tl;dr don't assume there's a good reason behind such things. As for the RD - I don't see anything actually in their job requiring it. Giving it to them is 1 less person trying to get a hold of the holy yellow gloves, which I personally like the scarcity of. If we were to ever really have an economy, it'd be backed by the yellow-glove-standard.
  12. I -tried- to line up all of arrivals so that the ships all dock at the same point.... Which was why cargo used to be stupidly, stupidly huge.
  13. The thing with ERT is often you'll get a lot of first timers or newbies on it, who don't know what they should have, or just want to look through all the cool new stuff. Honestly the best thing that ERT can bring to the station is extra manpower with all access. Specialist equipment is great, but a basic kit and getting there quickly is better than advanced equipment and getting there too late. Eg - "Getting there firstest with the mostest".
  14. Rather than just engines, perhaps armour could be a method to balance speed out. Heavier armour = more health, less speed. Maybe the same for weapons, but that doesn't seem as necessary. Generally, the faster you are, the less you have to worry about getting hit, so this seems a good trade off. Another thing not mentioned with the speed of the pod is lag. With a best-case-scenario ping of 0.4 for me, I found the pod just too fast to really use.
  15. The SoP I had for working at a petrol station was easily 100+ pages. The size of this to cover the entire medical department seems fine, especially as you don't need to read all of it to play any 1 job except CMO. Odds are you can go a few shifts playing any of these roles without really running afoul of SoP, and anything you do mess up can quickly be fixed in game. All it takes is someone pointing out you did something wrong, and you now know what you're meant to do.
  16. If you're not actually killing someone, you can't be done for murder. Unlawful borging is usually treated as murder/manslaughter because you need to kill someone to take their brain out, and there is no proof that the person consented to being killed. Killing someone without their consent is generally malicious. But just chucking their brain in a cyborg is not murder.
  17. I've always treated geneticists handing out hulk to everyone the same as a warden handing out the contents of the armoury to everyone. It's jobban and brig worthy at the least. As for karma-locking it, it's long been a policy that no vanilla jobs will be karma locked.
  18. Departmental ones would be great. You could point to them, or hit people with them.
  19. Fax Centcomm for permission. They can even help with a command announcement authorising it to avoid the crew screaming bloody mutiny.
  20. As can racism, homophobia, other bigotry, poop, and ERP. Just because it can, doesn't mean it will be used for RP a majority of the time. Or even 1% of the time. And if your characters concept revolves around using netspeak so heavily that you can't play that character without it, then no great loss.
  21. I'd love a server where netspeak and racism and homophobia and other assorted bigotry was used to enhance rp. But 99.9% of the time it's not used for rp. It's people trying to be edgy and offend others, or in the case of netspeak, just being lazy. Contrary to popular belief, admin aren't actually offended by racism etc. They're generally fairly thick skinned. When someone is racist, I don't freak out and have hurt feelings, I just think they're and insufferable dickhead who I don't want on the server. Its like when a 7 year old calls you a poopy head. You're not offended, you just think they're immature. I've had some chars use netspeak ic, generally to make them look like idiots, or mock people. Spelling it out - double you tee eff, or el oh el, gets the point across of how stupid it is.
  22. Remember this is STANDARD operating procedure. Xenomorphs and other emergencies don't fall under that, esp code green procedure, so anyone firing you for not being able 100% by the book in those situations is a condom.
  23. Good, but is it going to cover more than surgeons? (Get it? Standard OPERATING procedure? huehuehuehuehue)
  24. I strongly disagree. This attitude really makes my blood boil. It's a bit of a derail from SOP, but regardless. The fax can be a real hassle for admins for a few reasons. If we're currently investigating grief, PMing players, or ghosting them to catch them fucking up, then we don't have the time to fax. There's plenty of other admin duties that also take priority above it, and once they're done, it's easy to forget about the fax. Additionally, if we're playing actively in the round, it can be hard to find a good time - especially if we're currently getting attacked by the very xenos you faxed about! A hell of a lot of faxes can simply be replied to with the line "Proceed as per SoP". You don't need to tell CC that a greyshirt hit the clown with a crowbar. Maybe a few buttons for default replies would help with that. "Xenos have attacked" or "nuke ops are here" again are things the crew have the tools to deal with - whether it's an ERT or calling the shuttle. The main thing the fax is good for is responding to admin events/really unusual situations (help the cult has recruited wizard xenos!), or disputes among command (Captain is dead, HoP and HoS are arguing over who is in command). All in all, it's best to see the fax machine as something that might help, but not to rely on it. A fax of "command are all dead need ERT no one alive to swipe" is more likely to get help. And of course, to remember that the admins may be busy or have a variety of reasons not to reply.
  25. I think it'd be best to make it clear who can override who. If the Captain says no, then the RD/CMO can't say yes. If the Captain says they don't care/are busy, RD says no, CMO says yes - who overrides who?
