I like where this is going but I do have a concern. It may all be in my head but a few rounds now where the HoS and Magistrate have been on the same page and decided to go the permabrig route with antags I have noticed a decline in the number that get taken alive. My concern is that if this were enacted security officers would find ways to always need to use lethal force and in the cases an antag was taken alive command would always move for execution. By always executing the remove the risk of not having it as an option later. It is too bad, I think valid hunting is behind a lot of the problems with security on Paradise. Perhaps in addition to this change require a higher level of intervention (Magistrate/CentCom) before execution? I don't think it removes the problem of "Died while resisting arrest," but it may ease difficulties with perma being replaced by execution if the above is enacted. In my experience by the time you find out that they want to do an execution, it has usually already occurred or will occur regardless of space law or chain of command. Semi-related I have seen a lot of odd executions recently, some confusion over game mechanics (antag tests) + valid hunting have come very close to resulting in the removal of non-antag players from the round on more then one occasion such as security going after those who get genetic powers during a vampire/changling.

There were only a handful of Vox back in the day of last summer as I recall.

Let’s not lose sight of the real Comdoms, shitcurity. About the first quarter of that round was the Magistrates vampire inquisition, security did not have the appetite to RP so we ended up moving off of that right before everything struck. Security (possibly) killed the Honkmother, Cyberiad security is now the true embodiment of shitcurity and has earned that noble title by ridding the universe of laughter. I will tell the abridged side of my story from log excerpts, I was Yachikikicha, Head of Shitcurity. I love you admins and I am happy to have been in the right place at the right time to be run over with your adminbus.

The Magistrate presiding over his Vampire inquisition. [spoiler2]Also the NSS Cyberiad now belongs to the Shoal.[/spoiler2]

I think you start from the bottom.

TAKE MY KARMA!!! I think monkeys were converted to have organs and work with reagents for experimentation, perhaps the same could be done with security dogs/pets?

Really great work FoS, wish I was even partially as talented as you are, I can hardly hold a pen.

I do miss ZAS and melting walls. Fire just does not feel dangerous anymore and greyshirts have lost what little fear they had of opening random airlocks. But yep, onward to the future, and the future is LINDA.

3, Am I doing it right? I have no idea whats going on! HALP! -
Does removing the cortical implant kill the Vox now? I have had it removed a few times before and just RP’ed the effects for the rest of the round. I would be all for it having some gameplay effect, nothing is more Vox than being killed by medical over a broken hand. If not death, perhaps brain damage? The way I have been handling this IC (also as one of the parties to blame for it I guess) is that with the declining list of qualified applicants for all jobs across the station, Nanotrasen has had to start making employment exceptions for positions in Epsilon Eridani on a trial basis. Human only command and security staff is still the norm across Nanotrasen’s footprint and would be the preference on the Cyberiad were they able to implement it with the staff at hand. Obviously it’s not official, but since I don’t know the official lore its how I rationalize it with the rest.

RD's should attempt to avoid breaking telecoms. Good scripts are good, not having working headsets is bad.

You will be disarm mobbed by greyshirts and executed for attempting to arrest another officer for breaching sop. On the rounds where the HoS is not capable of policing his officers (through lack of competency or due to chaos) he will also be unable to determine why you are arresting officers and will not provide you any support. The magistrate has little ability to restrict security if the HoS chooses to ignore them, most of the power comes through being the final word on station regarding space law. If they choose to ignore the magistrate his only recourse is the fax machine and the time it takes to use that IC can make it a rather difficult to use tool. I have no problem with having the ability to arrest an officer breaking SoP being an option. It just seems it could have unintended consequences for any officer trying to curtail shitcurity who relies on it.

You are both correct, however I do not believe it is a simple dichotomy between being able to mess with everything and being excluded from all interaction. Obviously the ability to mess with others is contingent on a number of factors one of which is the languages we are presenting to players as options on character creation. This is proposing opening up a whole new avenue of messing with others. It comes with opportunities also, however my feeling is that those will not be capitalized on. While the gray tide knows no bounds I have yet to see it happen to a significant extent the Karma locked species. The Tajaran player base also appears to represent a significantly smaller portion of the server population, this change would drastically increase the amount of ignoring required. I have no comments for or against additional languages, I think that species-specific languages should remain that. tl;dr for this part, my opinion about how metabuddies works is that it’s a consequence of players forming groups with those who share gamestyle and have nothing to do with species or gameplay mechanics. Metabudies (or at least what I am assuming you mean by the term) seem to be more of a consequence of the diversity of roleplay preferences on the server as opposed to any specific mechanic. Some players engage in long conversations about nothing, others build crossbows with their botany friends and go into maintenance hunting antags. This results in the self-selection of characters into cliques by their players. I think this appears to breakdown along species lines as with a finite number of character creation choices like-minded players select into the same types of species, this is impart formed from the observation that before the species nurfing it was a reliable indicator of playstyle. Also I think some part of this is that species would be the most visible feature that could be tied to group membership from outside observation. It is easy to assume that the Tajaran are metabuddies if they cooperate in anyway even if they are both first time players. Human characters have the cover of still being the most abundant species selection and hence being in the majority don’t have species used as a useful feature to identify group membership.

I would, It would be legitimately uncommunicating as opposed to just uncommunicative... Nobody wants a Voxcurity officer with a German Shepard?

One of the features I like about the revolver is that while it is less than lethal, using it has consequences. You can’t just go around shooting people. The taser can be used in many situations and can serve as a primary option. The revolver is one of last resort as it will send someone to medbay. At the sometime since it is not as powerful as other weapons, it does not unduly unbalance game play. If the clown truly poses a threat to a head of staff you can shoot them a revolver. If they slip someone on a banana peel you can hit them with a disabler. Not having the disabler option I think may lead to interesting outcomes that have nothing to do with shooting anyone. I still view the BlueShield role as a primarily Role Playing one and I think the revolver fits with that opinion.

Almost all of the time I see racial languages being used it’s in a Role Playing context. My concern with opening the languages up is that everyone will pick Tajaran and Vox and using it to disrupt existing conversations. While disrupting conversations can be an IC thing, my guess is it won’t be done for the betterment of the RP atmosphere. I would anticipate most of its use being along the lines of ;:j CATBEAST CATBEAST MEOW! Edited for spelling

Much enjoyment, thank you. -
Oh wow so many, but I am picking this one. Music/headphones.... Yes its odd once you start tube rolling. Favorites so far Pre-Amp: NOS RCA 12AX7 Rectifier: USA 5U4GB (Probably made by RCA, no contract number, 1960's?, definitely not NOS) Power: NOS Sylvania 6DR7 .... 80s? (Yes I know its not a usual power tube my amp is weird) I tried a pair of RCA 6DR7's recently but I did not like them, made everything sound to sharp and something was off. It is also possible they are poorly matched, I will have to take them in to get tested. I have other crazier ones, but this one is fine to start.

Having just completed a shift as IAA, this is what I now view as the core issue. No matter how much time you invest in report writing or investigations. Or how detailed and spell checked the faxes are, if nobody at CentCom responds you may as well be a civilian with a sec headset. The admins are very busy with things arguably more important then responding to IAA faxes. I think any solution to IAA needs to involve solutions separate from CentCom. As it presently stands, IAA probably won't be high on my list of job choices due to the unreliability of role play experiences and general lack realizable purpose.
-
In the inconsistent way my brain works I am now somewhat supportive of this concept in a sense that I think it could work, however I would like to see it more inclusive. Anytime a head of staff, IA Agent, Magistrate, NT Rep or Blueshield is arrested someone should probably notify CentCom that they have a somewhat senior level employee that in many cases appears to have a malfunctioning loyalty implant. It is up to the admins with how they handle this but perhaps it would have positive results? At the very least it could in theory (depending on how the admins want to handle this) reduce the amount of loyalty implanted Self-Antagging. The core issue still remains that this would require a fax to be responded to by the very busy admin staff. It may make some sense to explore opportunities to require chain of command concurrence on IAA arrests.

I like the overall change and have a few thoughts on all three. Below is a combination of my understanding along with any thoughts on the changes. In the interests of full disclosure I often play Magistrate and NT Rep. I also was unaware the IAA lost any of its authority, more on that at the end in the section titled “Why I don’t think this will fix IAA.” Magistrate Magistrate out of the way first as I have the least to say on this. I think that outside major crimes the Magistrate’s involvement in sentencing should be at their discretion with the facts they have available combined with their good judgment. Central command should be the only authority able to appoint a magistrate as a magistrate has great power to ruin a players rounds. NT Representative/IAA Agent I have always viewed the NT Representative in this advisory role however I feel that while this may be an issue of semantics the NT Rep does have an investigatory role, although one very distinct from IA or security and one which often will be a mostly paper based exercise utilizing reports from the IA office and other sources. I think you have captured the spirit of this nicely with the term “Departmental Review” this difference I think is best explained with a somewhat hypothetical example and I believe we may be using differing definitions of investigatory. In the hypothetical case of a research director burning NT flags both the IAA agent and the NanoTrasen Rep would have an interest in the outcome of the investigation. The IAA should focus on determining guilt and the facts surrounding the act of sedition and if anyone else provided material support such as the lighter used or helped with access. The NT Rep should be able to investigate or preferably learn from the IA report whether any additional elements of the research department provided non-tangible support, displayed other forms of problematic disloyalty directed at the corporation, or appear unable to finish all allocated research projects. Simply put in my understanding the IAA is concerned with space law and threats to life and property where as the NT Rep should be focused on loyalty and threats to NanoTrasen interests and station profitability. Even more simply stated, Law vs. Politics. Obviously the NT Rep and IAA would have some interrelation, as I would assume the IAA would be doing most of the leg work and report writing with the NT Rep informed of any findings that would affect station profitability or effect crew moral/loyalty. For this purpose it would be nice if the fax machine did not require recalibration when sending memos internally. I do not like the idea of any restriction of the NT Rep faxing CentCom, while they should not be stepping into the IAA’s role they are the liaison between NanoTrasen and the station for much of its day to day bureaucracy. If an agency problem exists between the interests of NanoTrasen and the interests of the command staff or station crew the NT Rep should ensure that CentCom is fully informed. As for interactions with crew, primary point of contact should always be with department heads, the chain of command should only be bypassed when for whatever reason a department head is unavailable or has a conflict of interest. This is after all the purpose of a chain of command. Why I don’t think this will fix the IAA Until this post I was completely unaware the IAA could not investigate whomever they wanted or had any sort of caveats on their authority to investigate heads of staff. I was also under the impression that they had the ear of CentCom if you did not listen to them. My reference for this belief was the wiki http://80.244.78.90/wiki/index.php/Internal_Affairs. As a NT Rep, Head, or Magistrate I routinely attempt to route any complaint through IAA and ask that they then send it on to CentCom. I do not like dropping everything I am doing every time someone complains about a head of staff. I would love to just forward every accusation against a head to IAA via PDA and have it off my plate, a professional well investigated report from an Agent is worth the word of whole departments. When it happens If I am in command I tend to make at least somewhat of a show of writing a report praising their work for CentCom and sending it along. I wish I got to do more of these, instead this is what usually happens in order of diminishing frequency. 1) IAA Agent not on crew manifest. 2) No response. 3) IAA Agent is in the brig for spacing the clown. 4) IAA Agent is now the clown. 5) IAA Agent is on the clown planet. 6) Response but no follow up. 7) Honk? 8) A well written report that is faxed to CentCom. Mostly because of this list and the interactions with IA Agents it represents I do not support a mandatory CentCom arrest report for any unrestricted positions outside of captain. I also do not think a drastic reduction of the authority of any other jobs not mentioned previously to support increasing the popularity of the IAA would serve its intended purpose. I have spent hours of game time writing reports as an IAA, Magistrate, and NT Rep. The most common response is silence. Instead I support a change that would enable the IAA agent to take maters directly to the captain and enable the captain to make decisions that would normally require CentCom approval if he has written concurrence from the Law Department, along with an acceptance that the IAA position is a role play intensive role and what attracts people to those roles can be hard to alter without unintended consequences. Sorry for the unintentional length of all of this, to end. As I see it the primary problem with IAA is that you can not go into it expecting anyone to answer your faxes, knowing this other players have little incentive to listen to IAA beyond good roleplay on the part of the IAA's player. As a player who enjoys playing NT Rep I would prefer not to end up in exactly the same boat.
