NEW CONTEST: Cargo Train Directional Sprites
Innocent Fire replied to ZomgPonies's topic in Graphics Section
Okay. So it took me this long to think of something that might be useable as a train system. Since it's BYOND, it's hard to actually sprite icons that sync together through turns and such. SO I came up with a more futuristic idea. Energy linked hover pads. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2t0soirs9b5c0 ... 20cart.dmi I can add wheels if it's really an issue, but you said the future is run by a train, why not have it be a stable hover train? This also removes the injury from running people over, making it safer over all. Also this is a concept of how people would stand on the driver cart. -
It's a little off center, because I didn't use the proper tools to do it and just eyeballed it. But it's more of a concept than an actual thing. I just wanted people's opinions.

Looks really nice. Butttt I don't think the Vox would be worm-like larva in their first stage, since cannibalism would probably be very high. Also the blinking is a little too fast.

Spheretech's Sprites / Request Thread
Innocent Fire replied to spheretech's topic in Graphics Section
Looks nice. I like the colors and the fangs hanging off of things. -
While I like your efforts. There's already a -ton- of gun icons in the game. Not trying to be rude, but these sprites don't really fit the style of the game. I suggest cracking open the game's source and checking out the style for the icons, and then work from there!

These aren't earth plants. I was trying to go for an alien look. -

Have more in the works, buuut, since there's not a whole lot of lore on slime people's home world, I had no idea what to make. So I made these -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.dropbox.com/s/oxx5iv0jukwyo ... icRose.dmi A special and very rare plant from Xarxis 5, known to humans as the Gelactic Rose. Highly toxic if injested by anyone other than a Slime Humanoid. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.dropbox.com/s/hpem7r46jlc9d2x/Slimetank.dmi A simple core tank. It's cute to watch them bounce around. -

Can the icons be larger than 32x32? -
NEW CONTEST: Cargo Train Directional Sprites

The issue I have, is that I can't see items fitting on the north and south icons. Since items like crates only have one directional state. -
Can be fixed with alpha. Add an invisible barrier around the center of the spear, allowing it to be picked up easier without altering the icon at all. You're welcome.

thanks, made that in less than 30 mins.

New to the forum/server but I stumbled across this and thought it might be fun to try and make something similar to the picture. This is what I have so far, looks a bit stiff, but angler fish don't really move 'swiftly'. Feel free to tell me whatcha' think. Link, since I don't know how else to present the icon without it losing it's alpha: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b25dbngamunv5bm/Angler.dmi

Make mining less boring. Add monsters to mining asteroid
Innocent Fire replied to michellebaren's topic in Suggestions
I didn't say it had to be a karma job, I said it could be. And because if they added what I suggested to the foreman, (the ability to make tools/upgrades) then you wouldn't want some random narb to in charge of mining. -
The difference is, ripley can carry 3+ crates at one time, making it slightly faster, and more secure to carry crates. However it's overall inefficient, since it's so slow and needs to be recharged. A slightly faster, less tanky ripley might be better. A ripley that could only have 1 attachment (the arm) to lift and carry boxes. The ripley could also have more storage space for boxes, making it's hull larger.
-
I would like this, ONLY if it was toggle-able. I do deep space mining, and can't bring a crate, so if I were to pick up everything I mine, I would run out of room quickly, and it would just be all kinds of bad. There just needs to be more mining tools in general. I'll come up with some ideas and make a thread to see what people think.

Make mining less boring. Add monsters to mining asteroid
Innocent Fire replied to michellebaren's topic in Suggestions
While I agree that mining can be boring, monsters are NOT the way to liven it up. Dying out in space is pretty much the worst possible case, since NO one is going to go get your body. Plus the fact that the suit sensors don't work properly on the asteroid, no one is even going to find you if they were looking for you. And if you run into something serious, you need to wait even LONGER for backup, like security to come help you. Getting trapped in the mining station is hell when you got mimics trying to rip your legs off. And if you get injured while fighting these things? That's even MORE time wasted in surgery. How is any of that fun for you? Fighting AI isn't even fun, it's usually unbalanced and frustrating. Plus the fact that miners don't have access to ANY weapons other than some tools and a drill. Yeah, really good for monster hunting. There just needs to be more stuff to do while mining, and mining needs to be a little faster. We have to rely too much on robotics and research to even mine properly and if we don't get a ripley within the first twenty minutes of the shift, we're out there for HOURS mining mediocre amounts of ore for no pay off. When we do bring robotics and research the materials they need, they go all greedy with it and make stupid shit for themselves like bags of holding and weapons, and some super powerful mechs, while I'm out there drilling with one of the worst possible digging items in the game(excluding the excavation tools.). I find myself, the miner (As I often play when I play on the station.) to be mining all shift just to barely get my ripley 5 minutes before the shuttle is called. It's just not fun when you have to wait so long for your upgrades. [tl;dr] Monsters blow, dying sucks, not the way to go. [suggestion] Miners should get a foreman, or something similar, and their own robotics lab, where the foreman can create tools and upgrades for their miners to properly bring the station their much needed resources. This would also free up robotics so they can work on borgs and such for the station and would create a new job, since there's always like 99 damn useless assistants. That way mining is faster, more rewarding, and more fun. This could also be something that's unlocked through Karma, and I would -love- to do it. Miners get shit on, even at the end of the round where they show the specs of how the round went. The 'ore mined' is always at 0, no matter how many huge crates of ore I bring in. It's depressing, but it's one of the jobs I enjoy doing, personally. It's chill, and relaxing, and it's good to get away from the chaos that is this station on the daily. -
Not saying it's a bad idea, but the race/game doesn't really support a peacock-like icon. Peacocks really shine when their plume expands outward to show off all of their pretty colors. The 32bit state of the icon is way too small to even come close to showing off their true potential. Anyone could make the Vox 'colorful' But that doesn't mean it will look 'good'. I was attempting to color the current Vox icon with similar colors to a Peacock, but it just looked too bold. The icon is too small to blend colors together to give it that pretty diverse Peacock look. It could be done, however. It just would take some time to do. Plus you might need an alternate icon for the tail to bloom outward. Like a cape or something.
