At a ratio of 1 point to every 100 or 1000 credits. This would probably add a lot of clout to the entrepreneurial side of role play on the station as a civilian "businessman" or trade person or whatever.

I imagine it being implemented as there being a machine in cargo that the QM or tech can put credits in like an ATM but for every 100 the machine gets it gives cargo a point or something. Then they can make literal sales and stuff and cover the cost of their product. Just a thought.

Money is an infinite and useless resource, being able to convert it to supply points will be abused severely.

 

specifically slot machines have an absurd pay out rate and 15 minute of clicking can usually net you 50k if not much more of you hit a jackpot.

 

add in the HoP can just drain department accounts round start and nobody would notice your looking at a free 300+ points.

 

cargo can already export goods and crates for points, they don't particularly need another source of effort free income

Currently the slot machines are wildly profitable. Until that changes this idea is completely infeasable for that alone.

Here are the current payouts (generously rounded down) for the 10c bet:

2.4% - 100c

2.4% - 50c

7.3% - 10c

 

Expected payout for using the slot machine: 453credits, a payout of 45:1 odds in favor of the gambler

Even if we discount the top 2 prizes the payout is: 116 credits, a payout of 10:1 favoring the gambler.

(To be honest I'd argue that these numbers desperately need changing. No RP reason to do your job when gambling has a 10 to 1 payout. But that's not part of this suggestion.)

Even outside of the issue with slot machines there are problems.

You can already send minerals back for points, and those minerals give you mining points which you can convert to cash.  So you'd be able to double dip by sending the ore for points and then sending the money you for for mining the ore for points. Not to mention that it's not all that difficult to get tens of thousands of credits via mining.

There are also departmental accounts with a lot of money, again tens of thousands, maybe even hundred of thousands of credits.  It would be easy to have a ton of points very early on.
