Complaint:

During a NukeOp round last night, Blessed played as an adminbus CC character coming to inspect the station.  I was playing as a security Cyborg.  After the nukie threat was dealt with, the CC character showed up and had the Captain (who I had been guarding all round) lead him around the station.  While the CC character was hassling the Captain over some petty stuff (as is the point of the character I assume, so I am not complaining about that), I said something to the effect of 'Cap, can you message CC and make sure they actually sent this clown?'.  The CC character then shot me to death with a pulse gun.

I ahelped about it in a pretty unconcerned way, the general gist of which was 'If that wasn't an admin approved action I hope you talk to the player about proper use of force, and also if it was an admin joke I would prefer to not stay dead for too long.'  The general tone of the responses from the handling admin (not Blessed) was that it was a completely justified IC action, even if a non-admin had done it this would have been considered a 'clean kill', and that I was being whiny for complaining about it (and, to be fair, I probably did start to get pretty whiny about it towards the end of the exchange).

The following are the points I want to raise, and the main problems I had about these admin interactions:

  • The kill was actually pretty funny, I literally laughed out loud when it happened.  This was all like 5 minutes before the end of the round so I really didn't miss much game time as a result, and I assume Blessed took that into consideration somewhat before acting.  I also am sure that I wouldn't have been left as a corpse if the round continued.  I don't think anyone was being malicious about this.
  • I 100% died due to admin abuse, and was removed from the rest of the round (even if it was only 5 minutes...) as a direct result.  The character that  I was killed by was only able to do so because they had the IC/Roleplay authority to do it and not get immediately arrested (something no player character would ever have), and because said character had a pulse weapon that was able to kill me faster than I could react to it (again, something a normal player wouldn't have except under special circumstances).  Dying in such a manner just generally feels shitty, and I imagine the admin team wants to avoid it as much as possible without good reason.
  • The admin I talked to via ahelp about this seemed to imply that this was a justified and rational IC action, and that I contributed to the event and essentially 'should have seen it coming' somewhat.  I legitimately don't think I had any way of expecting, IC or OOC, that mildly mouthing off to a CC character ONCE would be dealt with in such a harsh (round ending) manner.
  • I understand that killing Cyborgs is dealt with a lot less harshly than killing crew is, in character (ex, the huge difference between what is required to execute a known EoC vs what is required to blow up a potentially rogue borg).  Out of character, it is the exact same type of player death (removal from the round) with the exact same associated bad feelings.  I assume we have the rules surrounding prisoner execution requirements at least partially to FORCE players to take it seriously and therefore avoid incorrect/un-needed character deaths and associated ahelps.  I feel like, as a general principle, admins should avoid needlessly killing players over petty things that aren't making anyone's round less enjoyable.

Tl;DR since this is a wall of text:

Blessed killed me over some really minor roleplay 'disagreement' while playing as an adminbus CC character.  Didn't really matter since it was the end of the round, but I hope in the future he/she wouldn't behave the same way without better justification.

Hi there,

It seems that in this situation, Blessed was in full awareness that the war had already ended, and the round itself was about to end. The death as you said was literally LOL worthy, and a LOL in exchange for 5 minutes out of the round seems more than fair to me.

Prisoner execution requirements and space law are for the balance of the round and players, and do not apply to events and centcomm characters. I agree that needlessly killing players in ways that would make their round less enjoyable should be avoided - but in this case, it seems on the overall balance it added to the humour and enjoyability of the round.

I've spoken to Blessed about this, and made sure that this wouldn't be something that would normally occur - it was done to add a bit of humour and fun while the station was evaccing after the war, and absolutely wouldn't be the kind of thing that would occur in a "normal" event. It's much more akin to a response to an assfax than how a centcomm character would normally act.

As this has been discussed with the admin in question, and there's no wrongdoing here, marking as resolved.
