Title says it all.

Would be another route for traitors to acquire gear without needing an emag. Could have a shit ton of dud wires and a wire that locks it permanently to make it a bit harder. Of course on the other hand cargo could fuel a great greytide like that.

I dont know. I think its a cool idea. Cant imagine it would be that hard to code in as the code for hacking is already there.

There already are multiple ways to open up the crates, with a at least half being achievable by normal station crew, but still have at least some work behind it. The options include EMP, correct (stolen) access, shooting, drilling, and maybe a few hostile mobs. Not sure if there really need to be more.

It might also make it too easy, you either have a 100% chance to open it with abundant tools, or you have it a bit like the bombs. No matter how you do it, 50/50 chance to defuse or blow, so you can just go quick. Sure could shift the balance around, but seems somewhat flawed and probably resulst in the same. Depending when you do it, might just be able to order 2x crates when you have a 1 in x chance to open them, and be done. And with it "just" permalocking, you can still do the forced opening, so it might just give you a timesave/quieter way.

I agree in principle with the goal of making many things not emag-dependant. Maybe making them hackable would be a more fun/interactive way IMO than the current 'shoot it a billion times with a KA/point an emitter at it' thing.

Aren't there enough ways to open a crate you don't have access to?

1. Acquire access
2. Shoot it a bunch
3. EMP it
4. Blow it up (Even an IED can do this 50% of the time)
5. Emag it
(6. Maybe chuck things at it, not 100% on that one)

So that's at least 4 ways to do it without an emag. Do they really need to be hackable with a multitool on top of that all. If all it requires is a multitool and screwdriver then it really becomes zero effort. Worst case scenario, you perma lock a crate. Not exactly a real downside considering how you're often swimming in points by midshift.
