Yeah no. I don't see why that should be the case. It's specifically made so you can't because all it could be used for is griefing.

This genetic power was notorious for being a greytiders best friend way back when, and it doesn't need any sort of love right now. 

Especially in regards to a device meant to end rounds.

You can already eat limbs, cuffs, and live explosives, matter eater does NOT need a buff
