His father was a high-ranking but relatively obscure law enforcement official. His older brother is a poet of little note, his younger brother is one of the colony's rising pharmaceutical entrepreneurs. Note on the Tiberian System's Goverment and their Relation to SolGov: Reveal hidden contents Almost since it's inception, the colony has acted highly independent of the rest of Humanity's governing body. They are often accused by outsiders of being nepotistic, corrupt, and authoritarian. Conspiracy theories abound. A Colonial "Governor" and company of Marines are the de jure executive and military force, repectively. That said, the Governor is, for all intents and purposes, a rubber-stamper and the Marines serve primarily as his bodyguard. The representative to the Sol legislature is a post primary dedicated to keeping the regulation exemptions and trade protections in place that might otherwise be removed from such a loose-cannon hermit state. They possess a truly impressive military and security apparatus. Their services include: Protective Naval Service(Sizable fleet of Sub-Light Cruisers, Interceptor-class ships, and orbital artillery batteries. Ostensibly, this is for anti-piracy purposes.), Planetary Defense Force(Marines and ground-to-space artillery), Home Guard(Conventional Infantry), Armed Police Corps(the Gendarme), various local reserve militias, and a civil defense agency. The Bureau of Internal Security is the colony's oldest establishment, bar the office of Governor and the Executive Council. Until very recently, they had unlimited jurisdiction in all cases, carte blanche for searches and arrests, and large, heavily armed teams of officers. Several families, including the Sommers, have consistently been scattered throughout the command structure for generations. He was enrolled in the Central Police Volunteer Academy at age 15 and graduated at 17, then enrolling in a college within the Administrative District of the colony. He is a life-long member of the right-wing Founder's Party that dominates the political landscape of the colony, more or less arbiters of the various interest groups that would otherwise be at each other's throats. Having learned all practical skills necessary at the PVA, his brief studies were devoted to studying literature and philosophy prior to joining the BIS at 19. His first assignment, lasting two years, had him as a low-ranking position in the field office for the south-eastern continent, always rife with political and sectarian strife. Two years into this assignment, the arrival of Unathi workers and closure of several mines and factories pushed the region into turmoil. He was influential in coordinating the BIS, AP, and Home Guard forces with irregular forces, being promoted to Field Officer. When the 2558 election cycle came near, the Bureau assigned him to the newly created Special Detainment Unit, a well-armed, mobile group attached to Fort Coldbath in the Administrative District.[Note: Actual incarceration sentences are exceedingly rare on that colony, so detainees were likely either being held indefinitely on account of the threat posed by them, awaiting trial, or due to receive capital punishment.] Many of it's members were former colonial military and most were political hardliners. By that time he was a frequent visitor to the Central Building, although on what business is unknown. Rumors of politically-aligned hit squads intimidating dissidents and extra-judicially killing insurgents began to surface in late 2557, matching the description of the armed, paramilitary BIS units. The Chairman of the Executive Council officially denied any such activities being conducted under government authority. However, after the FP's power was reaffirmed in the 2558 election cycle, more than half of the BIS's "armed units"were disbanded and the agency relegated to an almost ceremonial function; later review placed tens of thousands of hours of labor, millions of credits of equipment and budgeting, and dozens of personnel unaccounted for. The reason for the abrupt about-face is unclear; some people believe it is to cover up crimes committed, others think the Sol Government thought they were getting too powerful, and put pressure on the Chairman to make them moot. He has since married: a frequent civilian visitor of the Cyberiad, Alissa Bennet. Prefers Cyberiad assignments. Has recently shown interest in command positions, frequently as Captain or Head of Security. After serving out his contract in the security department, he left NT space and joined the Security Division of the increasingly militant Elysium Project. Security Records: His membership in the BIS has been a recurring matter of concern for the company. This includes his kidnapping while in company employ. His signing on to the Elysium Project poses a serious security risk to the Company. He has been spotted several times in various locations in support of EP raids or operations. At 1932 Quinton H. Sommer disembarked from a shuttle from the Trurl and began travelling to the Starboard Dock to board a shuttle home to Indus Beta. Upon checking out at the security desk, he entered a rarely frequented corridor in order to avoid the slow moving crowd in the main promenade. Cameras show a group of three male Humans and one female Tajara entering shortly thereafter. They were not checked in, had no IDs, and as of yet are unidentified. They were not seen again on cameras. 7 minutes later, the unidentified ship left, using an unregistered, untraceable bluespace engine. A thorough search of the station and surrounding space yielded no results. The Company expects foul play, but there have been no ransom demands or claims of responsibility. Internal Affairs has suggested this was a political snatch operation, tying back to Mr. Sommer's checkered past on his homeworld. Investigation is ongoing, but nothing within our sphere of influence has produced any leads yet. SolGov was contacted, we have not received any updates. Reveal hidden contents Yes, I am retiring Quinton on Paradise for the foreseeable future. I enjoyed many adventures as this mustached Machiavellian, but am ready to move on to different characters to play other departments and species. I have a version of him on Baystation with a backstory more compatible with their lore, but containing some of the same themes. I think I'll be able to play him as the Lawful-Evil character I was not able to do here as well. He was found in a small derelict outpost at the edge of company space, where he claims to have been marooned Attached are the relevant debriefings and reports. Medical Examination Reveal hidden contents At the time of recovery subject had experienced very serve dehydration, and some minor radiation burns. Consistent with storm exposure in a poorly-shielded structure . Security Assessment I had a long-ass interview and everything written up, but I must have hit a wrong key, cause it's gonezo. RIP tl;dr: Quinton helped shut down some insurgents back home years ago, and some of the former members kidnapped him and marooned him in the middle of nowhere as revenge. I really did have a long thing written out. Damn. Anywho, a month in spessman-time really does feel like a long time. Be back to bust heads till I'm banned very soon.
