Scrat's Guide to Guardians

Hello there! This here is the spiritual successor to my old Race guide, only for the new and mysterious Guardians! We'll be going over the basic of Guardians, how to get one, and each type of Guardian and how their abilities work. Plus some fluff at the end!

Fuckin Guardians - How do they work?

Guardians are spectral beings that are sworn to protect and powered by you. Your Guardian is linked to your health, meaning that any damage it takes will be transferred to you (guardians with higher resistances will however transfer less damage), and when it dies, so do you! You can communicate one-on-one with your Guardian in a chat nobody else can see, ideal for planning nefarious deeds. You have the option to recall your Guardian if he is currently visible, or to switch the Player who's helping you. You would do this if your current Guard has to go, is uncooperative, or so terrible it's ruining your life. You will then get a new ghost plopped in (with the same type of guardian) to try to fix this. Be careful, as you can only do this once! Guardians are invisible unless they choose to make themselves visible (which they will need to do to use their abilities) but they see what you see and hear what you hear, including your radio.

How do I get one?

You can get a Guardian via 3 ways:

- Through Tarot Cards. This is an item the Wizard can use one spell slot to get. When he shuffles the tarot deck, a Guardian type is randomly selected and a player is chosen to be said guardian.

- Through Nanoparasites, a Traitor item that costs 12 TC. You get a box with the injector and a basic info note on each type. You dont actually inject yourself - activate the item and it will 'charge up', IE search for a player. Once a player accepts, you then choose from the list what type you want, and once you pick, you and your new partner in crime are ready to go!

- Through Scarab Eggs, an object very rarely found during Mining. I currently do not know if you can choose your type or not, so help with this would be appreciated. A note that as a regular old Miner you probably arent an antag, so keep yourself in check.. unless you ARE an antag miner, then go nuts.

Of course, any of these three may be spawned for !!FUN!! by Admins, but generally you can only get them by the methods described.

The Different Types Of Guardians

Below is each type of Guardian available and a description.

Standard

The Standard guardian has no special abilities or powers, but has very high damage resistance and a punch that packs a wallop, about 30 brute per swing. It can break down walls, but TAKE NOTE that it cannot destroy wall girders, so you need to disassemble those manually. It may be a bug. It also has a choice to set a cry (ORAORAORAORAORA) when attacking enemies (but not structures).

Chaos

The Chaos Guardian ignites enemies touched by it on fire. Punches randomly teleport areas to a square somewhere nearby. If the user is set on fire, it will automatically be extinguished.

Ranged

Ranged Guardians have an extremely spammy, but weak, ranged attack. Trying to chase someone down with the ranged attack will likely not work, but if you can surprise attack someone they can be critted before they realize what happened. Can go into a Scout mode, which makes it a semi-visible state and basically gives it ghost vision, with x-ray and the ability to move through all obstructions. In normal or scout mode it can lay invisible surveillance traps that alert both the guardian and user when someone walks over it, including said person's name also.

Support

Support Guardians have two modes: One is Combat, where the guardian will have a decent melee attack and decent damage resist. Heal mode causes its punches to heal whoever is hit, but it slows down and has no damage resistance. In either mode it can deploy (extremely obvious!) bluespace beacons to teleport its user to one of said beacons.

Explosive

The Explosive Guardian make ANYTHING visible in the game world (objects but not ones held in a hand, walls, doors, etc) and the next time someone activates it they will explode for rather small damage but it almost certainly will remove a limb or two. Because of this, you cannot pick up your own trapped items or risk explosion overdose, but you CAN pull them (Grab untested) without issue. Traps expire after ~45 seconds and have a 20 second cooldown. Otherwise it has the highest damage resistance out of all Guardians and a fairly strong punch.

Fluff!

AKA the mostly useless crap. Just some tips about having fun with your guardian or ensuring good teamwork.

1: The default names for most Guardian are booooring! You may decide with (or pick for) the Guardian a better name, possibly related to its type (Shock and Awe for an Explosive Guardian, anyone?) and refer it to that instead. If the admins are feeling warm and fuzzy, you can command your guardian to make himself visible in a secluded area and ask the admins to properly change his name so it appears whenever they talk or do things!

2: You're a boring guardian user unless you dramatically shout your guardian's name (if possible) to command them to attack.

3: You ought to ensure your Guardian only appears and/or does actions when you ask it to, else it might end up bad for the both of you.

4: Work with other Guardian-using traitors (if such applies) and create a team of gifted freaks! Bonus points if you by some miracle get a full roster of one of each type.

5: There is no shame in referring to guardians as "Stands".

6: Know the weaknesses and strengths of your guardian. Dont expect a Ranged guardian to get into a one-on-one muscle brawl with a Goliath.

7: Keep your Guardian unknown to most people. In 99% of cases it's illegal as shit and it'll get you tossed in the clink or worse.

And that's it. If you have suggestions for additions or revisions, or even just comments, feel free to reply!

Did we really just port these abominations? Ugh...

Don't knock on the faboulous posing we shall recieve from this. Plus we can certainly tone them way down from the TG iteration, we already did that with Ranged Gaurdian.
