Just putting this up to get feelers more than anything, after perusing some of the other wikis that are out there and the lore that's available on other servers, there's a lot of extra little details that really builds the world and makes it feel like an actual entity, whilst ours seems to be a hodge-podge of (mostly Bay) other people's lore.

Any thoughts on how to flesh out the actual backstory/grounding a bit more?

I imagine working on "Competing Corporations" a bit more would be a solid start, but Nanotrasen in and of itself could use a hit of extra lore.

What's the corporate structure, for instance? How does it compartmentalize itself?

Bay has great little segments on things like this, as well as pages that tell us exactly how the galaxy is governed, what sort of third parties there are, so on and so forth.

If we're serious about pulling the server back to medium (because whilst it's doing better, it's still very much on the low end of the spectrum) the lore is the best place to start, since it'd allow people to actually build relevant backstory, reference current galactic politics/players, and so on and so forth.

Reading through the lore should be a fun and engaging experience, I feel like ours is a bit dry.

I know Tully is presently working on SoP which ties into this somewhat, too (as it allows us to catch a glimpse into the expectations of the corporation itself).

A couple examples of pages completely lacking in lore, and have been for several years now.

An example of a page that could use more lore.

And an example of a page with some interesting, well-fleshed out lore.

Discuss.

Yes pls.

I have some concerns about the process though. Looking at the Vulpkanin lore's limbo, I think there should be one person in charge of accepting new lore to make the process smoother. If we want to add a ton of new content it will be hard to get this working.

I'm willing to help out with writing, just let me get a thesaurus first.

Most of the pages I'm referencing are link-offs from that page.

I've been meaning to contribute to the lore, but I've not gotten around to it. This is as good an excuse as any to make a start.

I've made a few minor changes to http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Humans , and I'll begin writing a draft of the page that makes some more drastic changes and expands upon humans.

If anyone wants to see my work on it, it'll be reflected here till it's done and there's consensus that it should be included: http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/User:Coldflame

i have been contemplating contributing to fluff.

Kluys approved of my headcanon fluff text files on items found on the station, i mostly made them so people will feel stupid for yelling bluespace while i have a entire text file detailing how that mysterious item works, also to rub it in the HRP surgeon so he wont strip my clothes before surgery.

I think we need to copy pasta this into our lore, since news about almost every location listed in that page show up in newscasters.

https://wiki.baystation12.net/Tau_Ceti

edit1: we could need some newscaster editing, since baystation lore spacestation names show up in there and also mentions of Centcomm being attacked by rogue AI's, this could use some fixing later down the line.

edit2: *lifts general lore fluff carpet*

*watches in horror of all the hodges and podges!!

ok, first off, i think we should replace the "other life" section of this page http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Backstory

with a link to this page http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Species

secondly, this page has some unused and possibly obsolete links at the bottom of it, http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Tajaran

tully only managed to label one of them as obsolete....somehow

skimming over some old crew records on the forums shows that this was used on our server AGES ago.

thirdly, if you scroll to the bottom of this page, you get something named as the fyrsskar http://nanotrasen.se/wiki/index.php/Skrell

who the hell are those guys?

a large scale rework project is in order.

Well, at this point it's admin decided, because they're kinda in charge and there's no better idea. Regens scolded me for editing the lore myself, but I'm pretty sure there's not much going on on the subject of the Vulpkanin lore, considering it's been three weeks, so I dunno...

I think it would work if we had one person in charge of the lore who would get peoples' opinions on possible big additions and greenlight the smaller ones.

So, I've read through the current human lore page, and come to the conclusion it'll pretty much need a rewrite.

As it stands, the current page on humans is the skell page rewritten to reflect humans (in sections, still talking about skrell). It's bloated with biological information that's written from the standpoint of someone who doesn't know about humans, and the given lore contradicts what we hear about humans elsewhere.

Given that humans represent the majority of players and tie in strongly to the lore, I don't think I Should go about completely rewriting the page alone and expecting everyone to agree with my interpretation, I'll make a thread in the next couple days regarding drafting a better page for humans.
