We have augmentations which are produced in robotics. We have Biomechanical engineer who is specialist in all kinds if cyberware be it prothesis or implants. But robotics lacks bone gel, latex gloves, bone setter(which could be easily produced in lathe, so its not a problem) and anastetic so no augmentation/prothesis operations are possible. And every borgification of living volunteer transforms into horrifing torture because well no anastetic. Indeed its possible to bug medical for either tools or access to open the surgery crate but its not always possible. So.. why not adding remainig tools for robotics?

Implant surgery involves openin' up a dude and doin' stuff inside 'em. That is medical's domain right there. Robotics as an operating theatre would be so un hygienic, it being full of oil and metal and stuff.

Implants are to be done in Surgery in Medical.

According to Fox in this suggestion, implants are not part of the domain of Medical. :^)

Well Mr. Pants, according to the Implant SoP thread

Cybernetic Implantation should be performed in Surgery or any such sterilized environment, to reduce the risk of internal infection. If no Surgeons or Doctors are available, the Roboticist can fill in;

I have an idea. To promote department interaction I say implantation should be performed in Medical, but only by a Roboticist and monitored by a surgeon. It's the best solution I think as it solves the issue of not having the correct tools but also gives Robotics right over implanting

Robotics doesn't need bone gel because you don't need bone gel except for broken bones.

You can bend the ribcage back and then just force end the surgery without using bone gel for chest surgeries.

No way in hell am I going to surpervise a roboticist doing surgery while I watch. I'd tell them to gtfo and do it myself.

In fact, there is no situation in which this makes sense. Robotics can do every implant with their current tools. If someone is going to medbay with an implant, they don't need a roboticist. If a roboticist is in medbay, you don't need a surgeon.

I should point out, only reason that part of Implant SOP is because doing organ manipulation surgery in an unclean environment has a good chance of leaving you with an internal infection that, if untreated, will kill you. If Robotics takes precautions to be clean, I don't see why they shouldn't do implantation as well (most people are too lazy to get implants and go to Medbay anyway).

As for the tools... you don't need them. You can bend back the ribcage/skull, then cauterize the incision with a sharp object+cautery.

Crazylemon made a PR to do just this--at that point in time I gave it a thumbs down because there wasn't a reason.

These days though, I do support this change being made---Robotics has very little to do outside of making the first borg and RIPLEY.

I really like the idea of Cybernetics lab in place of Experimentor. Its rarely used and uses up alot of space directly connected to the medical bay. Cyber lab would use up space much better. Here could be all of the needed tools, fabricator to produce implants and nanopaste.

Experimentor would better fit some place at research outpost, where dangerous anomalous materials are reasearched by anomalists. Maybe some work for this guyes with Experimentor? They are highly dependent from archeologists after all.

Didn't know about possibility to succefuly end the implantation surgery by "force end". Anastetic or painkillers is still needed however.

...........................................call me crazy but, what if we make robotics half medbay half science? Think about it. Just like genetics provides monkeys and stuff for blood and limbs and organs, robotics already provide cool robot arms and legs for medbay, they could gain operating rooms access and do their thing neatly with no excuse for letting people get infections and stuff.

Ordinary robotist is more an engineer+scientist than surgeon+scientist. Thats why some builds gives them engineering chanel and made CE supervise them along with RD.

But Biomechanical engineer is surgeon+scientist so just like genetist he should have both medical and science chanels while bot RD and CMO supervise him.

Yeah... how is this not strictly superior to both surgeon and scientist? Better access, can get all the tools from both locations.

Surgery fixes pretty much everything that a cyro dip won't, including infection. One main limitation is not having IPC repair tools and cybernetic limb replacements in medbay, and you basically want to give the roboticist everything.
