>break into electrical maint with welder and wrench

>deconstruct one smess 6 high cap batteries

>theres two smesses

>no hard to come by

Sounds like a great way to be arrested, also, again, that's not "But anyone can get access to them!"

Anyone getting access is your average maintenance diver. If we're going into the whole "You can break in an get them", then why the fuck not just break into the sec checkpoint everyone ignores by arrivals? bust open that locker an you got like... fuckin flashes an sec gear in that as well as pepperspray refills.

If you're busting into place, busting in to a room to leave evidence of a crime, a stunprod is... sort of the shittiest thing you could get out of that, since they're literally worse then stun batons in every way. I mean you can bust into the detective's office at that rate.

EDIT: and my comment about batteries being 'not that easy to come by' was a poor choice of words. Batteries themselves are not DIFFICULT to find, but they're also not like Welders/cable coils with them being in every single fuckin' room forever and ever, because you need a certain size of sell to even work in a baton.

You can ask for bigger power cell for any other reason. Like wanting to replace power cell in apc in vacant office to make some gimmick office here.

And electrical maintenance is rarely ever visited by engineer, it have no cameras installed. And you dont even need to hack the door to get inside. Just make a fake wall and you got a good place to hide as well as supplies.

Except to change an APC you need ins. gloves. Shit a Civvie is not probably gonna have, not legit ones anyway.

So if you're an eingeer or work in Cargo you.... frankly can just get them no problem. And... also have way better alternatives like... flamethrowers or ordering a murder crate.

Still a very far cry from a "Widespread problem everyone is abusing" as is being claimed.

Problem - for one, Flammenwerfers need a plasma tank, which is not only a steal objective (ie marks you valid), it's also sourced from only toxins, atmospherics, or engineering secure storage. All of which are pretty priority areas for a breakin response. Flamers are also pretty shit, they tend to light the user on fire just as much as the target, good for area denial, piss poor for anything else. And a syndicate crate assumes you're traitor, which isn't really good for purposes of discussion considering that most antags have access to better stuns than a prod.

I'd like to see prods backfiring because, one, that'd be fucking hilarious and two, they're the most reliable weapon available to the average crewman and I'd like to see them shifted into a backup weapon rather than a proper fightstick. The upthread suggestion about insulated gloves bringing the backfire down to negligible is actually a really nice one, because stunprods are engineering's go-to departmental weapon and stealth-nerfs are never really cool.

There are 10 tanks on research outpost in storage. Nobody knows about them mostly so you can get one from here with ease.

Plasma tanks aren't exceptionally rare and it doesn't even have to be a plasma tank.

Oxygen tanks work just as well and if you can get ahold of a plasma canister you can fill up any old oxygen tank (such as those in EVA or the Firefighter closets, among other places) with any gas. Plasma gas is the only one that makes fire though.

And then we have an empty APC, with prints on it.

Congratulations on your sabotage charge.

We have explosive lances that can decapitate people when you hit them with it, and it's also an easily and readily available melee weapon. The prod is balanced as is.

Reduced capacity on stunprods is the weakest nerf for such a powerful weapon. You only need one stun to kill someone/get cuffs on them, capacity only matters for security officers because they're stunning multiple people before going back to recharge.

+1, now we just need to fix crossbows.

I read earlier in the thread, and I disagree. They're makeshift weapons, they should have a disadvantage to represent that.

Except for the fact no other makeshift weapon in the game has a disadvantage to using them. The closest to a "Disadvantage" I can find here, is spears not fitting in a bag, thus being super visible and Flamethrowers spewing out plasma everywhere if the tank pressure is too high.

Literally every single other makeshift weapon I looked up, is simply a poor-man's alternative to something else. Zip ties are easier to break, IED's have a random 3 to 8 second timer and so on.

There is no makeshift weapon that actively fucks you over for it's use, batons have lower stun time and fewer uses before needed a recharge. That's perfectly in line with everything else.

What you're wanting changed is not the baton, it's the fact that stuns dominate combat. He who has the stun/lands it first wins the brawl and even if you nerfed the prod, Disarm intent would like to have a word with you after it procs it's random knockdown.

Changing prods WON'T fix it.

I don't understand why people suddenly want to nerf the prod so bad. Just because it's a makeshift weapon does not mean it has to have a major down side like stunning the user. I can make a makeshift shiv and use it with pretty much no downside apart from it probably not being as durable, which is essentially how the prod works as of right now.

TL;DR> Prod is a-ok, lets fix broken things.

Lolstuns should not be so easy to get as non-security or traitor with uplink. Even papapen while being silent do not offer instasedation and victim can potentialy run away, fight back for short time.

Its really bad that such powerful weapon can be got without using any tc or robbing security.

I'll agree with the outright removal of prods, if security no longer has access to tasers and stunbatons.

I think all of you forget that if a prod is abused by a non-antag or is used for validing, the admins intervene and look into it.

Prods are a makeshift weapon, sure. They're also used predominantly by antagonists.

Allowing antagonists a cheap (cost-wise), melee stun (that doesn't even mute!) is not a bad thing.

Whilst a chance of backfiring could be interesting, you know it will generate salt/issues/antags being caught in minutes occasionally, and we don't want that, nor do we want to railroad people into one real antagonistic path, diversity and options are good for everyone.

What about just make insulated gloves a full protection from backfires budget gloves a half protection and normal gloves a qaurter protection

You should really not care about antags if they use a stunprod they have a whole arsenal of stuns that way better then stunprods

Traitor = ebow

Vampire = glare/hyptonize

Shadowling = stare

Cult = stun talisman

Changeling = has no stunning ability but they can pretty fuck you over with 3x hallucination sting

Nuke ops = stun shells from the uplink

They really dont need anymore stuns plus theres rng based combat stun which is pretty high with sleeping carp esword etc

>poeple spill their blood if the stunprod gets nerfed filthee powergamees

The thing with antag stuns is if you get caught it's GG because you're EoC.

With a stunprod or equivalent you can usually play it off as just being a greytider, the trade off is less effectiveness and so it should be.

Prods aren't really any deadlier than the easily mass producable spears knives or half the things science can print off dozens of.

Yeah it's really fucking annoying when someone validhunts with them but if you're getting into a position where someone with a makeshift stun stick can get you it's likely you didn't prepare yourself properly.

That said though I'd be in favour of reducing the stun prods stun to juuuust a fraction above the time it takes to cuff someone, maybe have them make a loud BZZZZT sound as you'd expect from raw electrical contact, they are slightly OP given how easy they are to get a hold of since for stuff like knives you at least have to break into the kitchen somehow.

Just make them do not fit into baсkpaсk - only in belt slot and in suit poсket of jaсket. Maybe people will use the garden more then - you сan make your own seсurity belt with very little effort here and it will give you 5 slots for the prod itself and makeshift сuffs as well. So people will assembe them just before they need it. Its not a problem to keep wired rod in bag and power сell with wireсutters in your poсkets. Its also good beсause when found people сant сharge you with possession of weapon.

Stunprod is the deadliest thing that there is

What you gonna do if you stunned? Ye cant fight back unless adrenals

But really forcing the stunprods only fit in belt slot just encourages greytiders carrying secbelts with stunprods and handcuffs/zipties why are poeple making so big deal about a easy stun weapons greytiders arent supposed to have gauranteed stuns so it should backfire if a traitor uses it and it backfires well bad better luck next time if you didnt buy your traitorshit yet

The thing is just greytiding is so normal gauramteed stuns stunprods became a main thing that just got a big impact on the game even if its 3 stuns its enough for easy ambushing one for one heck traitors can easily get batons and other things they just need stick effort in it instead breaking a window and a grille and some wires and a better the game isnt supposed to be always easy wins

Poeple nowadays are lazy doing effort look at xenobiology you used to do it by the hand now we have consoles look at virogly now creating a virus is easy now look at chaplain he has a whole weapon arsenal and don't get me started on tesla

The game isnt really fun if its too easy thats why it needs more effort for what you can reach trough your rp or your combat skills

Excellent point, it could be considered the "stealth" option because it doesn't mark you as an antag.

It can steall be a stealth option but just with a chance to backfire

As i said we can use budget to half the backfire chance and insulated gloves to completly remove it
