We ran a FUN early xeno round the other day. I spawned in two aliums five minutes into the game. The crew stood absolutely ZERO chance. With everyone still running around the station and gathering their stuff, there was absolutely nobody there to stop the xenos, it was pure death. Even a gamma ERT sent in as soon as it was requested didn't stop the infestiation and it all ended with a DS.

Xenos is a fairly uninteractive gamemode, as the xenos won't bother too much with RP and just eeeeet youuuuu instead of talking about their deep feelings.

There are more interesting things out there.

I always liked Xenos because it involves everybody. Nobody is left out, because if you ignore them they will kill you. Of course if you try and stop them, they will also kill you. If its cutting aliens out of people, welding vents, doors, or being sec and attempting to not get murdered while still trying to kill the aliens (basically impossible) or running away shouting "we are all going to die!" people are involved.

Its not balanced of course, the crew will always lose except for rare circumstances. However not everything needs to be balanced, some of the best rounds I have had involved Xenos trying to take over the station, while being say, a traitor. I believe it is fun at times, but its not meant to be balanced like colonial marines, which makes it become stale if Xenos happen to often. That being said adding it as a gamemode seems like a bad idea. I am perfectly fine with leaving Xenos up to random chance and admins discretion.

the xeno gamemode literally does not function

regardless, as a gamemode xeno would be a complete stomp one way or the other

Pretty much this.

The gamemode itself is super broken, but on top of it, Xenos are not really well designed as a round focused antagonist. Because either the crew finds them right away and stomps them, or the Xenos build a hive and then it's just a slaughter.

They're not terribly great with RP. Because Xenormophs are not exactly going to talk to you, because, frankly, if you're roleplaying a Xenomorph, then you should be an elite killing machine, taking people back to the hive to put eggs into and then go back out there. Expand, consume, thrive. That doesn't leave a lot of room for the talking.

Not the same kinda RP as left open by Traitors, Changelings, Shadowlings, cults and even Wizards to a small degree. The only other antag that is as Anti-RP as Xenos, are blobs. An even then a lot of people don't care for blob as a game mode.

They're perfectly suited as a late game event, either a round ending one, or something to really add some panic into a round that's gone long.

The gamemode was out and out removed because it didn't function.

Even when the mode was ran, it was eventually turned off---why? Because even with just two xenos and a high crew population, the more robust players just bided their time and nabbed a person who didn't stand a chance...then...after about 10 minutes, there were 5-10 xenos running around and the crew was helpless to do anything....and would often just call the shuttle and hope they could hold out.

Once in a while the xenos would be dumb and just rush the crew and get killed 5 minutes in, too.

There was really never a back and forth--it was an extreme win for one side or the other, in nearly all cases.

Even in a high roleplay environment, Xenos are really bad (if not worse)---their problem isn't really related to high vs low RP---it's just how strong they are that's problematic.

Kudos for proper use of !!FUN!!. Recently had a xeno infestation in viro, went in with two other people armed with AEGs. One damn xeno murdered us all, only using tackle and xenospit.

If we only made xenos more balanced like longer stuns when they leap into a wall instead of 1-1.5 second

or perhaps make their leaps more limited in range, say an instant leap in 4 tiles, charged leap (.75 sec) for longer than that
