At the moment, the Psionic Communication kinda sucks, there are never enough grey to make it useful, and the range on it is so short that if you want to talk to someone privately, telepathy is 10x better, infact, at the moment, most people use Telepathy and Psionic Communication interchangeably with the grey.

 

That out of the way, I suggest that we make the Grey Psionic Communication, the Grey Hivemind, and give it a limitless range, the catch being they have to use their hands to touch their head or something in order to actually do it, so if they are handcuffed, they are unable to call for help in the hivemind. This would make the small amount of Greys able to actually talk to one another in a reliable way.

 

On a side note, can we PLEASE change the telepathy color? people never seem to hear it.

I've Been told I should add what I consider to be the lore for this suggestion, and I shall.

Greys are creatures with long range psionic communication abilities, a hivemind of sorts, however the type of star the cyberiad orbits disrupts this psionic energy, getting worse at a range. This causes grey to only be able to communicate in short waves. The solution is a simple implant in the hand that boosts the signal like an Antenna, allowing the grey a much larger range, covering all of the station and the surrounding space, but being unable to go beyond.

UPDATE: Its been brought to my attention that this could be rather similiar to the changelings chat format, which could be confusing, so I advice that grey Hivemind remains in italics, but gets a different color, maybe like the drasks color? a change is needed for the Grey telepathy too.

I wouldn't mind a partial increase on the range of telepathy, but the largest issue is of course traitor-negation without the traitor being aware that you've outed them.

Thats why you cant do it while stunned or restrained, meaning the odds are just as good, and maybe it does something like SAY that they are lifting their hands to their head when they talk?

I can't remember who said it but I like the idea of it being a spell like ability that takes a few seconds to use and is a little bit obvious.

Have it be within 15x15 or however many squares is default view range as a limit and take a couple seconds and give a me emote of "ayy lmao presses xer's palms into xis forehead" and it'd be nice and flavourful.

Well I guess we should make a distinction between Psionic Communication and Telepathy.

Grey have both.

 

Psionic Communication is a Grey's "Racial language" that you use with :^

It is a non-spoken Psuedo-hivemind chat that any Grey within a screen's radius can hear.

 

Telepathy the genetic power, requires a target, and you can only select targets that you can physically see within your screen. If the Target does NOT have the Telepathy power as well, they have no idea -who- is in their head, they just hear what was said.

If they DO have Telepathy they also know who it was that spoke to them in their noggin.

Most people ignore Telepathic messages cuz frankly, they're hard to see on top of being rarely used. They use the same blue text as everything else (Could seriously use some readability tweaks)

 

Anyway uhhh... proceed back with talking, just felt those two things needed to be clearly defined a bit.

Thats kind of the problem, The Grey communication and Telepathy are so similiar they might as well be interchangeable, as you rarely see more then one other grey, and if you do, you could use either to talk to them with the same result (except telepathy is the action blue so they might not notice) I suggest making the Grey communication MUCH bigger, unlimited at most, but making it show your action (like saying *so and so* puts his hand to his head) and having it unable to be done if said grey is restrained or Stunned, as they wouldnt be able to perform the required movement.

Yeah I mean that one, it's usefulness is questionable and could do with a range boost that'd need balancing.

How long would be appropriate for mini-species PDAing?

I dont see why it would need to have a range, it would basically be a species only Tcomms, the difference being you cant use it if you are restrained.

I had a few more Idea on Grey, so I thought Id just put them here.

I. Let a blind grey see through the eyes of any sentient creature that is able to see the Grey, meaning the Grey would have a sort of Crowd Sight, but only when blind.

II. Let Grey sense other Grey through walls, because the current Psionic Communication has two upsides, its silent, and it works through walls, so I think you should be able to see grey through walls.

I will add more of these if I think of any, I dont expect all of them to be added, but I hope atleast one of my Three ideas are, preferably the first.
