== Overview ==
This particular guide refers to the species known as the Unathi (singular: Unathi).
===Naming===
Unathi name themselves in manners that are heavy on E's, I's and O's and S's, almost sounding hissing, or guttural. Unless introductions have been made, using a Unathi's first name is not recommended.

Unathi are a race of tall, reptilian humanoids that possess both crocodile-like and serpent-like features. Their scales are hard and plate-like, save for the softer ones that line the inside of their legs, armpits, and groin.
The Unathi naming scheme is not unlike the most commonly encountered one in the galaxy. With a first name assigned without any inherent meaning and a last name denoting family or clan.

Males stand six to seven feet tall, while females are about a half of a foot shorter on average. Females also tend to possess rounder snouts than their male counterparts. Both stand on plantigrade legs with clawed feet that make wearing standard shoes painful.
Generally, using a Unathi’s first name is reserved for close friends and family, and one should avoid mentioning it without having previously gained the Unathi’s trust.

The life expectancy of a Moghes Unathi who has decent living conditions is about 70 years. Those with more advanced medical care outside of Moghes often live longer.

Unathi are a carnivorous species of tall, scale-covered reptilian beings. While Unathi are almost always single-colored, the range of colors their scales can take is nigh-unlimited.

As a cold-blooded species, they suffer fatigue and even short comas when exposed to extremely low temperatures. Their hearts have two valves that are spread across their chest, which makes it sound as if they have two heartbeats at once. Unlike humans, their ribs are in armor-like plates that interlock under their chest, protecting their vital organs expertly.
Unathi males normally stand at around 2 meters tall, with females around 20cm shorter. Females also tend to possess rounder snouts than males.

They also have very long tongues, which may stretch up to a foot and a half long, forked just like a serpent's. In much the same manner as snakes, Unathi can sample the air around them using their tongue. Unathi tongues are usually black, extremely long, and very resilient to physical harm.
Unathi stand on plantigrade legs with clawed feet. While slightly uncomfortable, regular shoes fit on them well.

Since they are carnivorous species, their diet mostly consists of meat, though they do have a tolerance to plants and fruits. However, they do not get any nutrition from plants, so they are mostly used as garnish or decoration. Because they lack a second palate, Unathi cannot breathe while they are eating.

The reproductive system of a Unathi is very similar to that of Earth reptiles. Females lay eggs, with the average clutch being somewhere between one and three. They have a six month gestation period, after which they are laid in a humid, warm area. After two to three weeks, the fetus is fully developed and hatches from the egg, ready to start the cycle anew.

===Behaviour===
==Language ==
Irritation or heightened emotion is expressed by thumping the tail against the ground. Verbal exclamations are also common, as are short barks, rattling of the throat, or 'chuffing' (forceful exhalations of air from low in the throat). Anxious or worried Unathi might sway (similar to snakes), rattle the heavy scaling on their neck, hiss, or sample air more often than necessary. When cold, a Unathi will usually bristle their scales in a manner analogous to human goosebumps. Overheated Unathi become sluggish and drowsy.
Sinta'unathi is the tongue native to the Unathi still used today. It is widely known on Moghes and is generally the only one spoken by most of the planet’s inhabitants. It comprises mostly of hisses and guttural yelps and is extremely difficult to learn by other sentient species.

It is a social faux-pass to use a Unathi's first name, to touch their tail, or to touch them ''at all'' before introductions are undertaken. When speaking to superiors, it is considered formal and respectful to refer to them by the extended name of their command. A clan leader would be referred to by the name of their clan, a squad leader by the name of their squad.
While Galactic Common doesn’t prove to be much of a challenge to Unathi, it is rarely spoken on Moghes, as many of the local tribes don’t stay in close contact with the rest of the galaxy.

Intimate gestures between Unathi include twining necks, twining tails, and touching foreheads/muzzles. Hugging is usually considered something done by children, avoided by adults. In moments of privacy, when speaking to a very intimate other, a Unathi might refer to them by their own name.
== The Unathi Homeworld ==
Moghes is a wasteland, mostly desert world, scarce in resources. Research has shown that a long time ago it was home to an entirely different ecosystem, as well as civilization, but all that ended with what many speculate to have been a nuclear conflict, as indicated by numerous irradiated territories, as well as numerous ruins found throughout the entirety of the planet. Not much is known about the previous civilizations of Moghes, as no written sources of knowledge from their period were found.

Baring the throat is the single most meaningful expression of trust in a lover or superior, often used as shows of extreme trust, compassion or admittance of shame, and within honourable contexts, clawing or biting the exposed throat is perfectly allowed.
Moghes is an incredibly divided planet. While many Unathi live in more technologically advanced societies, there are numerous clans and villages which refuse contact with foreigners and live according to their old ways. With a still freshly established government Moghes is in a fairly anarchic state, but with scarce resources there is little there that can interest galactic players, mostly leaving the Unathi to themselves.

Female Unathi are treated as valuable property by males. For more information see [[Unathi Culture]].

Reluctant to contact the primitive species, the Alliance began careful observation of Moghes, to determine the best approach. Within half a year first contact was made with numerous villages located on the planet. While some settlements reacted aggressively, leading to a few deaths of the scientists, most of the teams were well-received and managed to perform some cultural exchange.
Within ten years basic efforts funded by the Sol Government to establish a planetary government were already underway. While many tribes were extremely reluctant to join the new body, many more peaceful ones agreed to partake in creating a better home for the species.

===Diet===
As interest of the galaxy in the new species faded, Unathi were left to cater to themselves. The efforts of SolGov not undone, they managed to keep a basic governing body made up of around fifteen city-states ruling over about a fifth of the planet’s population.
Unathi dishes are mostly, or all made up of meat, eggs, and fish, as they are a carnivorous species. Vegetables in meals are often just for decoration or flavor, but by no means ever make up the majority of the dish. Desert flowers may also be placed on the plate to make it seem well presented, and are also edible. The tools Unathi use to eat are very unorthodox to humans. Important meals like dinner and breakfast are meant to be consumed while surrounded by family, and as such there are no designated utensils. Food will be cut and picked up in strips or portions with their claws, or even daggers that some often carry around.

== Background ==
Currently, the number is around 50% of the planet’s population, with many tribes still refusing to join the planetary government. With little natural resources and a very small population Moghes is a fairly isolated economy, making many Unathi choose to search for a better life outside of their homeworld.
=== Culture ===

Unathi are a species deeply rooted in family and tradition. Settlements are made up of many clans with an average being somewhere around five and seven at a time to thriving capitols that protect (for a tribute) the other settlements around it. They are part of a large trade network and even have space ports for foreign ships to dock at and unload their goods.
== Unathi Culture ==
In the Unathi tribes living away from the much more civilized and well-connected government many aspects of life haven’t changed in hundreds of years. Honor and strength are both important parts of the Unathi culture, often resulting in literal fights over power within the smaller tribes. Many disputes are solved through violence, often resulting in the death of one of the sides. The combat prowess of an individual is directly related to their social status.

=== Home Planet ===

The planet Moghes is one dominated primarily by deserts as a result of an ancient nuclear disaster. Evidence of this previous, older race manifests itself in the form of ruins that dot themselves across the surface. Traces of swamp-land and jungles are present, showing that, at one time, Moghes was a lush world filled with a thriving ecosystem.
Traditionally, in the Unathi society gender plays a very important role. The weaker females are often seen as almost property of their partners or families, generally enjoying much fewer rights than their male counterparts.

Those customs, although considered tradition for the past few hundred years, are slowly being phased out, especially in government-controlled territories, where the galactic culture influences the societies into more progressive and equality-oriented mindsets.

Unathi generally don’t have any unified belief system. While it’s common to talk about ghosts and elemental beings of different kinds, it’s seldom seen for a Unathi to take them more seriously.

== Present Day ==
With modern technology making its way into the many cities of Moghes, the species is starting to slowly catch up to the rest of the modern galaxy. With imports and exports booming at a scale not seen before on the planet, the economy of Moghes is starting to become a competitive one.

Despite the government still failing at securing support of the whole planet, the quality of life on Moghes is steadily increasing.
