Overview
Naming
The Vulpkanin language - $LANGUAGE is surprisingly similar to Old Earth German, including the naming schemes. Most Vulpkanins have names similar to human ones, both in pattern and pronounciation.
Biology
Vulpkanins have DNA structure similar to that of Humans, Tajarans and Unathi, allowing them to use genetic modifications made for all of the aforementioned races. The major differences include having a tail covered in fur and much longer ears, as well a an elongated muzzle on their face. They roughly resemble canids found on Earth.
Diet
While they are omnivores, it has been noted that many prefer the taste of meat and take more mutrition from it.
Behaviour
Vulpkanins raised in their homeworlds somewhat resemble pack animals in their behaviour, opting to stay in groups of close acquantances, while ones rased in multicultural space tend to embrace different, more unpredictable behaviour patterns.
Clothing
Vulpkanins can wear normal human clothing as long as they can fit their tail in the hole between their top and bottom garment. Standard NT jumpsuits fit their anatomy.
Background
The Vulpkanin species comes from the planet of Altam within the dual-star Vazzend system.
The history of the Vulpkanin race hasn’t been recorded well in the past centuries, and as such only the most recent developments are known well.
What is considered by many to be the beginning of the modern history of the species is creation of The Assembly, a political body meant to unify the whole planet under one flag. Having taken its place in the year 2350 it was a result of the civilization’s mentality to strive for cooperation. The formation resulted in quick technological advancement and ultimately – at the dawn of the 25th century – the discovery of technologies allowing for swift and cheap interplanetary travel and colonization.
During the whole century the race managed to colonize two other planets in their system – PLANET and PLANET. Despite initial plans for them to remain a part of The Assembly, with their population totaling around one million each, at the end of the century both were declared independent. Regardless of this they remained in close cooperation with Altam and were far from enemies.
The first encounter of the species was made in the year 2524 by a Nanotrasen explorational vessel sent to examine suspicious radio signals. At that point the race was still behind it terms of space-faring technology and without access to FTL drives was unable to enter the political scene of the galaxy. After a brief year of mutual studies and exchange of information Nanotrasen entered a trade agreement with the race, which would later result in them entering the political scene of the galaxy as a newly-discovered species.
Despite the cultural pressure on unity and loyalty many Vulpkanins choose to leave their homeworld in search of a better life. Their civilization having yet to completely embrace the technological advancements brought to them by the rest of the galaxy and unable to offer the standard of living that can be met in the more advanced worlds.
Language
Their native language is $language. While it doesn't share grammatical similarities it has been numerous times compared to Old Earth German in pronounciation.
Culture
The Vulpkanin culture revolves around loyalty and unity, not condoning violence of any kind. This has lead to the relatively fast formation of a planetary government of the race, as well as a big amount of trust towards other members of the species. As with any other kind, Vulpkanins raised outside of their homeworlds will most likely not share those traits.
Religion
The planet of Altam is largely devoid of any religious activity, with most citizens being atheists or deists. Religion doesn't play a big part in the life of most Vulpkanins.
Home Planet
Altam is a bustling, well industrialised planet with a massive economic output. With most of the economy controlled by the state the quality of life is very similar for most citizens. Although still struggling to implement the newest technologies brought to the world by the rest of the galaxy, the race is slowly embracing the new possibilities they can offer. The planet's population totals at around six billion and is slowly shrinking due to massive emigration and a lack of new births.
Present Day
Currently the vulpkanin species can enjoy a treatment almost equal to humans in the galaxy. With their culture largery devoid of any 'quirks' they often get easily accepted into social circles limited to other races. While many employers still bear mistrust for the kind, the barriers are slowly melting.
