Hello. It is I, that robotics main that gets IPCs in and out of robotics as fast as it takes for your average Box shift to go red alert.

Science Guides
This guide is solely intended to cover machines. For a list about the construction and deconstruction of everything besides machines, see the Guide to Construction.
Guide to Advanced Construction
This guide not only covers the construction and deconstruction of most machines, but also which effect upgrading those machines has on them.
While knowledge on the exact effects of upgrading machines isn't crucial to any role, it can be fairly beneficial to Scientists.
However knowledge on the construction of machines is necessary to fulfill the role of an Engineer, in the case that on station equipment was damaged/ destroyed.
Machine Construction
- Build a machine frame by using 5 metal sheets in your active hand.
- Add 5 pieces of cable.
- Add a circuit board.
- Add all components required. You can tell which components are missing by examining the machine frame.
- Apply a screwdriver on the machine frame.
All machines (except most vending machines) require a specific circuit board in order to be constructed. These can either be found in Technical Storage, or printed by using a Circuit Imprinter. Vending machines all use the same board, printed from an Autolathe. Simply use a screwdriver on it to set vendor type.
In addition to a circuit board, machines require components, which can be created through usage of an Autolathe, a Protolathe and an Ore Redemption Machine.
Machine Deconstruction
- Unscrew the machine's panel.
- Apply a crowbar to remove all the components along with the circuit board.
- Apply wirecutters to cut the wires.
- Apply a wrench to disassemble the machine frame.
Upgrading Machines
Upgrading is the process of improving a machine by replacing it's components with their better counterparts, e.g. a matter bin being replaced with an advanced matter bin.
If a machine is upgraded it improves (with a few exceptions) the machine's capabilities, along with enabling it in some cases to serve new functions.
For example, in the case of matterbins it generally increases the machine's storage space.
In addition to stock parts, like matter bins, the term component includes beakers, wires, materials and igniters, of which the latter three have no better counterparts.
Furthermore, the Bluespace Artillery and DNA Vault station goals are different from most machines, in that they require you to use top-tier components, i.e. Quadratic Capacitors.
On the exact process of upgrading see the Guide to Research and Development.
