You are part of a Rapid Response Unit in the direct service of Epsilon Eridani Nanotrasen Central Command. As an Emergency Response Team Member, your job is to return your assigned station to survivable conditions. Good luck.
You have a special radio channel issued for Central Command Response Teams and most CentCom Personnel. Your radio key is ':$'
Pre-Mission Briefing
When you are a Ghost and currently observing the round, you have the option to join as a Response Team Member if the Heads of Staff request an Emergency Response Team. Remember that ERTs are only called during threats the crew are unable to solve themselves, but are recoverable with your assistance. If your Respawnability is set to No, then don't worry, you are still able to join the Response Team if all of the current ghosts with Respawnability on Yes have joined the ERT and there are still not enough players to fill all the slots.
You begin in the special operations area at Central Command. As soon as you spawn in, move into the main lobby and get ready. Your team leader might call for a briefing at this point; make sure to actually attend the briefing and to listen carefully. It is imperative for any team's survival that they coordinate and create an action plan. The communications console will always print messages from the captain and the reason the ERT was called, they may give hints as to what's going on, be extremely vague, or omit a station threat entirely. Expect everything, especially what the ERT request paper fails to mention.
Specializations and Equipment
ERT Members are equipped and provided with some of the more advanced and high-tech equipment that Centcom has to offer. You have a lot given to you, so make sure to make the best use of your equipment and not accidentally cause more damage to the station.
Depending on the Alert classification (Amber, Red, Gamma), ERT members will spawn with a variety of different types of specialized gear. Amber is not EVA proof, whereas Red and Gamma are. Gamma suits are also fireproof. Armour is colour-coded for the member's specialization, and their Centcom-provided ID will be able to access any functional airlock on the station. Do not lose your ID. More lives than yours could be at risk if an antag gets ahold of your ID.
Commander
Command the ERT and keep the station in line. Work with Command(and take it over if absolutely necessary) and ensure their departments are in order while you and your team get to work sorting out the issue. Generally less specialized than your comrades, you are still well armed and able to defend yourself with the right amount of skill.
Generally, the ERT commander should be moving around through the Bridge, Security, and any other department that is safe. They should demote heads or crew members that are being detrimental to the station and should try and hire more, especially in cases where there is a lack of Medical Doctors or Security Officers. This is a good use for your mindshield bio-chips outside of implanting other heads or re-implanting your fellow ERT when they get cloned.
As a Code Amber Commander, you are equipped with light armor that offers slightly more protection than security officer armor, as well as a pair of sunglasses, and combat gloves. Your equipment is very light, you should be spending most of your time commanding instead of involving yourself in combat. You will not win most fights alone, stick with security/your team, or stay in secure places such as the Bridge or Security
As a Code Red Commander, you are equipped with a hardsuit that offers much heavier protection than security officer armor. You have good equipment but you're still not likely to come out on top in fights, especially alone. Stick with security/your team, or stay in secure places such as the Bridge or Security and lead them to victory.

As a Code Gamma Commander, you are equipped with a heavy armory that offers much better protection than your red counterparts. You have advanced equipment/implants and can likely hold your own in a fight. Still, you should focus on either sticking to a command center or leading your team from the front.

Security
The Security RT Members get access to some of the most advanced weaponry Nanotrasen has to offer. However, don't forget that you still follow Space Law and therefore should not shoot to kill criminals that are not dangerous. Even though you are generally more equipped than your average Officer Joe, you're still a redshirt whose main strength is in numbers.
Depending on the situation, you may be functioning either as a slightly better equipped Security Officer or as a front line soldier. As an ERT member, you have the right to overrule everyone on cases of Space Law. This allows you to ensure that the law is properly being applied and to correct any mistakes Security may have made.
In extreme cases where the HoS is down and/or incompetent, you have the right to (though talk with your commander first) take control of the department. Provide leadership where needed and get security working as a team.
As a Code Amber Security ERT member, you have light armor that is just slightly better than a Security Officer's, along with a similar loadout. Work with Security and the Head of Security to ensure the capture of the mildly threatening EoCs that CC couldn't be bothered to send an actual ERT to deal with. Since you do not have an EVA suit, your duties will likely keep you only on station.

As a Code Red Security ERT member, you are a force to be reckoned with. Work with Security and the Head of Security to ensure the capture of actually dangerous EoCs. Your IK-60 Carbine is a very powerful weapon with a high rate of fire and damage output. Unfortunately, you can't recharge any spent ammunition, so use it wisely.
Since you have an EVA suit, you're more easily able to take on targets in space. This may even work to your advantage, as the suit is armored, and you do not suffer a speed debuff in space.

As a Code Gamma Security ERT member, you are essentially a juggernaut. Work with your team to ensure the capture and likely termination of extremely dangerous EoCs. Your Immolator cannon has two modes, both of which ignite their target: a long-range, slow firing, single-shot mode, and a short-range scatter mode. The Immolator can also be recharged, unlike the IK-60, greatly increasing your staying power in combat. You also carry a cardboard box full of T4 breaching charges, which are very effective against walls.
You are a soldier more than anything at this point, if you were called in it is likely because you are tasked with breaching in from space and terminating heavily armed EoCs, or exterminating hostile biological terrors. Do not be afraid to use all the tools in your arsenal.

Engineer
Being an Engineering RT Member is the job you'll want to take if the station is suffering from hull breaches, hackers, sabotage or anything in-between. On Amber, you are the only one with EVA. On Red and Gamma, you have powerful tools at your disposal to help you fix up the station and allow the rest of your team to work a little easier... breathing generally helps.
As a Code Amber Engineering RT member, you are the only Amber ERT member with an EVA suit, but are not very well equipped at all to deal with antags. Your job is to focus primarily on maintaining the integrity of the engine, as well as keeping the air on station breathable. Keep key areas like Arrivals, Escape, and the Central Hallways breathable and safe for crew.

As a Code Gamma Engineer, you are the best equipped an engineer could possibly be. Your job is to focus primarily on maintaining the integrity of the engine as well as keeping the air on station breathable. Keep key areas like Arrivals, Escape, and Central Hallways breathable and safe for crew. Utilize your combat RCD to quickly rebuild destroyed areas of the station. You are well implanted and have a decent arsenal, you may be very helpful for your team if they require breaching into a relatively inaccessible area.

Medic
Medical RT Members deploy with a good amount of movable medical equipment, easily allowing them to create a medical triage wherever needed with surgical equipment and medicines for most basic needs. With later levels having access to portable body scanners, they are able to perform surgery on the go, keeping the crew active to resolve issues all the faster. Keep medbay flowing, be resourceful.
As an Amber ERT medic you are slightly better equipped than the station Medical Doctors. Use your heavy set of medications to quickly stabilized patients. You should primarily focus on support medbay and acting as additional medical personnel. Only if medbay is well staffed should you consider moving with the rest of your team.

As an Red ERT medic you are much better equipped than the station Medical Doctors and your amber counterparts. Use your heavy set of medications to quickly stabilized patients. You should primarily focus on supporting medbay and acting as additional medical personnel. However, you should consider keeping up with the rest of your team if you are dealing with a biohazard, keep them fighting as long as possible. You may need to run back to medbay to get more supplies.

As an Gamma ERT medic you are likely to put medbay to shame with your arsenal. Use your injectors, med beamgun, and integrated surgical toolset to do field first-aid and surgery. Due to the mobility offered by your equipment you should primarily be sticking with your team when they're fighting, especially against biohazard threats. Your combat stims are great for giving your team the necessary boost to take down well prepared enemies.

Paranormal
Of course, not all threats are purely physical. If the station is heavily endangered by cult magic or other paranormal means, Paranormal RT members are here to dispel the dark magics whenever needed. They're mostly armed with Security-Grade equipment and Chaplain related equipment to neutralize threats both magical and mundane.
You are basically a chaplain disguised as a security officer. Do your best to keep up with the rest of the team and stick with your fellow paranormal and red ERT. Since you were called in, you will likely be dealing with the brunt of the action so put your holy boots on. If need be, you can also stay in processing deconverting enemies or blessing areas around the station if that is more effective for your mission.

Field deconversion are very encouraged, don't be afraid to use all of your security tools. Remember! You have an immunity to most cult magic and you should absolutely use this to your advantage.

Janitor
Some go into the Nanotrasen Navy to eliminate terrorists. Some go into the Nanotrasen Navy to save lives. Some go into the Nanotrasen Navy for the sheer thrill.
You went into the Nanotrasen Navy to do custodial work.
A clean station is a happy station, and most of the time the station isn't happy. Janitor RT Members can clean up in the same way and same equipment as the standard Janitor. They're deployed in some situations that REALLY require cleaning, with later alerts being equipped with the fabled mop implant. Be careful, you're given a token weapon to ensure you don't slip up and let that All Access ID get into the wrong hands.
You're a janitor in an ERT uniform, there's not really much else to it. Make those floors squeaky clean and mop the floor with antags running around. However, do not forget that even if you're just a janitor, you're a janitor with authority. USE IT!

Your Shuttle
Once you've gotten your bearings and have had a discussion with the rest of your team, it is time for you to head to the station. Head south to the ERT shuttle. Make sure all ERT members are aboard before moving anywhere. You have two options, dock at port three at the station or select a custom location in space near the station. Generally, you should go with the former(especially if you're an amber ert) but the latter will be more useful for quick insertion to fight blobs and other biohazard threats.
Dealing with Threats
Squad Tactics 101
The most common reason why teams fail to contain a threat on the station is that they do not work together.
Make sure that your commander groups ERT members together (at least into pairs) and supplement them with local security forces. Armor, advanced weaponry, and implants will do nothing if someone gets stun-locked, it will just take longer to kill them. Grouping your squadmates allows them to protect each other: they can pick each other up and suppress enemies while getting casualties back to medbay.
Use good communication to get teammates to the right places quickly and to even set up ambushes.
Surviving
Your primary goal as an ERT member is to stay alive; Adding to the station body count makes situations worse and often gives enemies upgraded equipment and all-access. You have many tools and strategies to keep you and your teammates alive, USE THEM. Never go alone, always have 1-2 other ERT members with you.
Make sure to utilize your Survival Kit! !t contains many useful items:
Breath Mask
Extended Capacity Emergency Oxygen Tank
Flare
Pocket Crowbar
Combat Knife: Good for conserving ammo or fighting in close quarters. Can be hidden in Combat Boots
CentComm Bounced Radio: Needed for when telecomms go down
Synthflesh Patch
Emergency Auto Injector
If you have a Red+ medical ERT officer, make sure to keep them along with you, they have the tools necessary to perform medical procedures on the go.
Just Doing My Job, Sir
When it comes to following orders, your team leader's word always takes precedence. It doesn't matter if it's the Captain who ordered you to fire that guy out of the mass driver, the final word is always from your team leader. Of course, you should also take into account your own reasoning. If your team leader orders you to release the singularity, you should probably do a double-take and think before you possibly destroy the entire station. As an ERT member, you are the highest-ranking official on the station, barring your ERT Commander. (Or the NNO, if they make a visit.)
DO NOT let crew members or command push you around. You are to focus on your objectives first, and ensure the station is brought back into equilibrium. If you need to lay down the law against crewmembers, security, or command, do it.
On gamma alert, you have free reign to field execute crew members that interfere with your attempts to save the station. Arrests are preferred for insubordination, and the lethal option is preferred for when crew members get physical with you.
The Central Officer in Blue
The Response Team Member that chooses to spawn as a RT Commander is the designated response team leader. The team leader dons a blue hardsuit or armor and is there to coordinate his or her team effectively and get the station back into working order. They'll usually be the ones barking orders at you (and sometimes at regular station personnel) in an attempt to keep everyone from going insane. Response team leader is, more often than not, a stressful position to be in. Respect. All in all, if you're not sure what you should be doing, try asking your team leader. They should be able to point you in the right direction, however make sure to pay attention to what's going on and give suggestions if needed as well.
Going Nuclear
In the event if the station was outrun by a biohazard capable of destroying the station or if the team has no other choice, there will be the Nanotrasen Nuclear Fission Explosive Device, which is considered as the 'Self-Destruct' of this station. Before that, a member of the ERT (not Command) needs to request the Nuclear Authentication Code in order for the team to detonate the explosive from a Communications Console (found at the Bridge and the Captain's office). The Code can only be entered when the Nuclear Authentication Disk is in the nuke, which you can hopefully get from the Captain.
After Central Command gave the Nuclear Authentication Code either to team, to command or to public, they need to enter to the Vault. Which contains the device, which is either opened by the AI or by the team itself. Do not touch the device yet until you deployed it at its preferred location.
The Nuclear Fission Explosive will be at the Vault, in order to arm the device:
- Right click the explosive and make it Deployable.
- Open the interface by clicking on it with a free hand.
- Insert the Nuclear Authentication Disk into the slot (Which is the [+++++]).
- Type the nuclear authentication code into the keypad, then press E when you're done. If you make any mistake, press the Reset button (Which is R).
- Set the time needed in order for the explosive to detonate (Typically 5 to 10 minutes).
- Arm the explosive, anchor it and remove the disk, make sure that you reset the code too.
After that, the bomb will explode once the timer ticks to zero, leaving the station nothing but dust. The bomb WILL still detonate even if the disk is not in the slot. Now, in case if the explosive device needs to be relocated for any reason, reinsert the disk, disengage the anchor, pull the explosive to its desired location, reengage the anchor then remove the disk.
Some general pointers once you're on the field
- Head to the Bridge once you arrive, if it still exists at all. Command will brief you on the situation and can provide some useful tidbits that may have been left out by their request.
- Once the ERT has assembled Centcom will usually not allow an escape shuttle until you contain the situation or die horribly trying. Keep in mind your own ERT shuttle can also be hijacked so make sure to lock it.
- In addition, do NOT call a shuttle if there is a current Blob or Terror Spider infestation; doing so is a great way to get everyone killed once they arrive back at the Trurl out of fear of spreading the biohazard. Your only solution, if you are unable to defeat this threat through conventional means, is the Nuke located in the Vault.
- Your help will generally be much more appreciated if you are doing something meaningful. You should generally try to co-operate and communicate with other crew rather than simply doing your own thing. They can point you out to the priority issues on the station let you know about any anomalies on the station.
- If you have been called in during the prime of antagonists try not to engage overwhelming odds under the belief that you can take on anything. Take a moment to think up of a plan and gather crew to help before blindly rushing into your death.
- You're not just about combat, you can be called in to deal with medical, engineering and possibly janitorial issues as well. Make sure to choose your role appropriately or else you might end up having nothing to do.
- Some of the ammunition provided to ERT members are in very limited stock such as the IK-60 Magazines, reserve them for when you get a clear shot and when other methods would be inneffective.
